    I've heard people in Alcoholics Anonymous talk about how it seemed to them that everyone was having fun and doing great at life, and they were stuck in a dead end that they could not escape. I guess it is a very common feeling among people from all walks of life. In AA they call it "judging your insides by other people's outsides". .

      I wanted to be on the performing arts, be a stage director and movie producer. It all depends on your socioeconomic class. For changes I want to see a topic that shows real life . Breaking down life's difficulties without wearing rosey glasses. Life is extremely difficult for so many . Truth must be told . Contradictory facts to one's experiences should be also appreciated . Once , in a while truth about life is necessary. But, here comes a problem- controversial topic.

    There are tons of skills I've tried learning in the past that I never got good enough to be happy with. (Perhaps I was learning the wrong way, didn't have the right environment, etc.). So breaking out of my box feels kinda pointless when the chance of success is low.

    • @wamyy5
      @wamyy5  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah I tried also many things that didn’t work out! The point of breaking out of your box means that you can try different things until you find a “calling.” Maybe you discover something you enjoy doing for fun or you find something you can get good at. I want to show that instead of feeling like there’s more to life, the best thing to do is take action! So many of us sometimes feel lost with the mundane day to day so it helps to simply see where else you can allocate your time and energy instead of accepting the current state.
      This would be a different video but grit is an excellent character trait as well!

    • @LaCarteRouge
      @LaCarteRouge 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hm, perhaps I should have clarified: there *are* things I already enjoy, but never improving at them takes away some of that enjoyment. (Example... someone who would love to get into competitive math but keeps placing last in every competition lmao.)
      But thanks for making this video; I think I requested this topic on the google form.

    • @wamyy5
      @wamyy5  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LaCarteRouge Oh yes, definitely understand what you mean! I enjoy basketball too, but even though I practiced so hard, I could never be naturally aggressive enough to show my skills when it was game time. Eventually, I had to reevaluate what was the best use of my time (cut my losses). I left the basketball team junior year at Caltech to do research in Dr. Arnold's lab instead. I still played basketball but really just for fun and that was a way I could still step outside my comfort zone and fulfill my love for the game - I met great people and got exercise.
      For math, maybe you could try doing research in math instead because there aren't objective awards or rankings. This way, you can boost your experience/resume while still doing what you enjoy. My college consultant friend recommends research a lot to her clients. We should try and look for more effective paths to go down. Getting uncomfortable means trying different methods because there are so many possibilities in the world that you just have to find what works for you! We all have our unique set of skills and preferences so testing various methods helps you find your "sweet spot." Trying a lot at the start is important to see if "enough effort" can get you somewhere first. If not, try something else! Hope that helps!
      And yay glad you noticed!! I try to fulfill your requests, so I'm so happy my efforts are appreciated :D

    • @wamyy5
      @wamyy5  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LaCarteRouge And to clarify, breaking out of the box means trying new things where yes, we cannot be good at everything, so the chance of succeeding in several things may be low. But breaking out of the box makes it possible of you to find what you *can* succeed in.

    • @LaCarteRouge
      @LaCarteRouge 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am really enjoying this discussion :]
      Anyway, it's a unfortunate that we're under the presumption that people are naturally good at things and bad at others. For example, you were probably naturally better at math growing up; I assume you practiced a lot as a kid. As for myself in high school, I really leaned into band because I was naturally good at music, but my talent was only because I was raised in a musical household.
      I say it's unfortunate, because what about people who aren't naturally good at *anything*? Or at least the things they're interested in? They can definitely improve in relation to their own skill, but like in your basketball case, it's probably less fulfilling if you have to put in so much more effort to get significant results. (And even in the case that everyone is good at at least one thing, it still kinda limits our options for what we'd like to pursue.)
