- Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show. May 03, 1958. I remember reading many years back that Jerry Lee Lewis was the only performer to sing "live" on the 99% lip-synched Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show. But The Champs are definitely performing "live" So are the Fats Domino performances.

Killer track! Love the sax lines and the single note guitar lines. Meanwhile the rhythm guitarist and drummer are strumming and pounding out a killer beat. The bassist is laying down a sweet groove as well. TEQUILA!

After my mom moved to Sanger and married my dad, Daniel Flores came over the house and brought a friend with him.

All we need is Pee Wee doing his dance on the bar. It was a new re-birth for the Champs with royalties probably better than when it originally came out. Instrumentals like this, as well as other music from the 50s, will never be matched again. It's been a slow death ever since disco in the 70s.

He didn't see any royalties till decades later (and then only from Europe.) Flores and Tequila had a similar fate to fellow Los Angelino, Richard Berry and his hit, Louie, Louie.
This song from The Champs is very retro. It's also based on a Mexican alcoholic beverage that my mom enjoys drinking annually on New Year's Eve.

Every note of that song from the Drums to the Bass to the Guitars and Sax is a gem. Fun Fact: This is the B side of their first record. They spent about 2 hours and 56 minutes recording the A side and threw this together on a break and recorded it in less than 4 minutes in one take for the B side as a throwaway song. Once this started to get played it overtook the A side "Train to Nowhere"which was also a hit.
