Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on TH-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on TH-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on TH-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

Hey... Black people love SOUL MUSIC!!! Prince creates music that falls into many categories including Rock and Pop.... But this song in particular has a very SOULFUL / R&B / BLUES / GOSPEL sound that Black people love and adore! There was a time when a lot of black people were losing interest in him when he did more Rock/Pop sounding songs. But, when he brings the SOUL, baby! He brings it!

I've read that the song was written for Susanah Melvoin....Wendy (from the Revoloution's) sister and member of the Prince formed band "The Family" who also performed the first released version of 'Nothing Compares 2U" which you should also check out!
It is a love song, one of the best love songs out there.
Come to think of it by listening to this song after so many times i can hear other things going on this song i never heard before. 🤔🧐

If you would like to enjoy some of PRINCE's newer catalog that is amazing try - Future Soul Song, Wall of Berlin, Colonized Mind, Sticky Like Glue, Revelation, Groovy Potential, XtraLovable, Look at Me, Look at U, Fury, Somewhere Here On Earth, Chelsea Rodgers. Etc.
I would have to suggest 'Joy in Repetition', particularly with those headphones. Prince's music is a treat and if you had 26 speakers, there would be a different part of the song coming out of each. Joy in Repetition, usually requires a second listen...when you say - ah, that's what he was saying there.

I’m not so sure about the reasoning of placating to a black audience. Prince has always created music in all genres. Critics always try to put him in a box like that and he recoiled at this always. This is a true love song with IMHO the best lyrics. Love him! Soul R&B is in his blood, just like Funk, Rock and Jazz is in his DNA. He did it all. ❤

His previous albums « Parade » « All Around The World in a Day » & « Purple Rain » albums have no Slow Jam, or R&B song

@@kennethsmith6367 right? “Condition of the Heart” is a beautiful slow song from ATWIAD, and Parade even though it’s not traditional R&B does have “Under the Cherry Moon”, “Sometimes it Snows in April”, and the instrumental “Venus do Milo”.

The styling of this dong includes gospel, a bit of jazz, soul, rock, RnB, and funk in their more original styles. Perhaps that may be why it was said the song was dedicated to Black Americans.
Great reaction. But it wasn't a "tribute to his audience." It was just a love song that happened to be R&B. that's all.
He was inspired by Susannah Melvoin in writing it. She also inspired an even greater song, called Wally, when she broke up with him. Unfortunately he destroyed /deleted the song. Only the Producer is still around to describe how amazing it was. One of his greatest ever, she said. What a Loss !

Glad you mentioned it. I just went and listened to it for the first (and maybe the last) time myself.
In fact, what we're hearing is not the original version of Wally, but a _second_ version that Prince recorded two days later, from scratch; After the original one had been destroyed.
According to Susannah Melvoin herself, Susan Rogers told her that version 2 sounded nothing like the original.
For one thing, the original was just a simple solo with only himself.
But for the re-recording, he brought in Eric Leeds on Sax, And "Atlanta Bliss" on Trumpet. He also added layers of percussion, all changing the feel of the song.
I'm guessing though, that the opening might still have a hint of what was in the original. Until those horns come in, and it kind of goes off the rails.
*(Fun Fact, 'Atlanta Bliss' is the nickname that Prince gave to his trumpet player William Blistan.)
He had been listening a lot of Luther vandross and Anita Baker at this time apparently as told by engineer
From Price's own liner Notes for the Hits Vol1&2: “ADORE” -"inspired by Patti LaBelle & Luther Vandross who Prince was digging at the time. Patti - “if only u knew”...Prince was def. inspired by and a tribute to what was happening on R&B radio at that time, specifically the quiet storm/slow jams that were a huge staple on Black radio.
This is my favorite song. I don't think it was about the Black audience as much as it may have been for the Black audience to enjoy. It has a gospel/churchy texture that acknowledges our cultural roots.
All that crap you said is bs..soul people loved Prince without question from day one...he is and always will be ours...!
