  • Fully restoring a barn find 1957 Corvette big brake air box fuelie race car, from Dream Car Garage 2007.
Discovered after sitting for 30 years this car was authenticated and restored to its early 1960's racing configuration.
Sold new to Bob Mouat in Baltimore, Maryland and raced straight out of the showroom until 1965, this car features the ultra-rare RPO 684 big brake option, as well as the RPO 579D airbox option. It has been invited for display in the National Corvette Museum and also appeared on the cover of Vette Magazine in April, 2008. Only 51 cars were built with the RPO 684; as of April 2008, only 23 have been found. This car also is one of only 6 with factory upgraded traction bars, an electric fuel pump and a competition exhaust. Also of note, this car was based out of Zora Duntov's DC Corvette Club, making it a genuine part of Corvette history. One of the most extensively raced Corvettes of its period; the car was placed in the hands of the experts at Legendary Motorcar Company in 2007, where it was restored to its original race condition. It also appeared at the Bloomington special collection, Corvettes at Carlisle show, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1957 Corvette, Amelia Island Concours (awarded the blue ribbon) and the Quail at the Monterey Historics. Once again a beautiful, functioning vintage race car, this Corvette turns heads wherever it goes.
    RACE HISTORY:
    This is the most extensively raced and winning 57 Corvette ever. Bob Mouat raced this car continuously from showroom until 1965, completing successfully against drivers such as Don Yenko and Dick Thompson on east coast tracks including Watkins Glen, VIR, Bridgehampton and Marlboro. Some race history highlights includes;
    - 2nd overall in BP SCCA national standings in 1963, 3rd in 1964
    - 2nd at the inaugural Watkins Glen 500 mile race
    - B/P lap record at Marlboro
Record in the East Coast SCCA national points in B/P class:
    - 1964 3rd with 21 points
    - 1963 2nd with 46 points
    - 1962 6th with 08 points
    - 1959 11th with 8 points
    - 1958 19th with 400 points
    - 1957 9th with 1200 points
    WORDS FROM THE OWNER:
Once my brothers and I realized that our 'airbox' Corvette barn find was the most extensively raced and winning 57 Corvette ever, we concluded that a councours restoration was in order. We considered a number of shops but ultimately selected Legendary based on the quality of their work and their ability to restore cars that were in very poor shape. As we monitored the restoration, we became even more impressed with Legendary. As the project progressed, Peter and his staff frequently communicated with known experts and even brought in another airbox corvette as a guide to make sure the car was properly restored. It's truly amazing to me how Peter can find out and recreate all of the factory stampings and markings that the car had the day it left the factory.
Only one word can describe the final product - PERFECT. Our 1957 Corvette has passed the scutiny of the Corvette experts, but more importantly was invited to the prestigious Amelia Island Concours (where it was awarded a blue ribbon) and the Quail in Monterey this summer.
Peter and his staff were great to work with throughout the restoration and Toronto is quite a nice city to visit. I obviously would recommend Legendary to anyone. For more information visit The Registry of Corvette Race Cars.

Love love all these old race cars. Thanks for sharing this old episode.
Truly miss living in Sebring, when I worked at Skip Barber Pro Series. We got to see all the historic races, if we were in town. And free admission of course. You guys set the bar, with all your attention to detail many years ago.

My name is Dennis Huffman, my Dad, Bill (REDS) Huffman owner of HUFFMAN'S GARAGE in Catonsville, Md. is the 2nd. owner of "THE 57" and the Mechanic along with my older brother and I.
Bob Mouat bought "THE 57" from A.D. Anderson Chevrolet in Balto. Bob & Ms. Arlett's son Bruce is too young and would not have any input in regards to "THE 57" workings but only information that Ms. Arlett would have told him and his little sister, Lisa.
At any rate, I'm would be the last to know the REAL history of my Dad, Bob, Ken (my brother), my Uncle Richard and me.
There are Many items that only I see from the pictures and hearing the Legendary Motorcar video.
In the one picture of "THE 57" on the track, that's my Dad holding the Checked Flag, I believe it is Wilkins Glen. At our home track Marlboro Speedway, it would have been me sitting between my Dad & Bob holding the flag for OUR VICTORY LAP, I did Many times.
What a GREAT TIME OF MY LIFE.
I have the ENTIRE history and stories of "THE 57".
    Owner's List:
    Bob Mouat, Bill Huffman,
    Vince Cox, Hussey Bros.
    Frank Buck
    GREAT TIMES !

Restore it as it was raced, "with modern technology". You're kidding, right?

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spares will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
    crime here, called "Abgasbspaßung" :-((()()()()
