I really do, once the weather warms up and I am itching to go out hunting for comics I will make a few of these to refresh my knowledge and to share with everyone.
I think almost all of these have gone up in value since I did this video. I need to do another one like this again, one day when I have a studio for my comics I will be able to do content like this all the time.
Thanks for the list. Been collecting trading cards for a long time and just got into comics. I found new mutants 98 for a buck. Definitely happy to have it.
@@popfuntoplay Yeah, I was very lucky to find it. I also found a few good ones last Saturday (spider 361-362, infinity gauntlet run, goon 1-5, y the last man 1-40, to name the better ones). Y the last man has an interesting premise. Also found a bunch of 90s to early 2000s wolverine. Paid 65 for a long box full of comics. Super happy with the buy.
Yeah when I originally did this video, I picked that window because I felt like that is the most common era of comics you see when you are out and about looking for comics at garage sales and other locations.
Great examples.. I have a quick story to share, I walked in to a local comic shop to browse around when a man walks in asking if they were buying at the moment. Store manager said not at the moment especially 90's stuff so I asked the person if I could see them and he showed me 1 Long box, it had Spawn #1-30 in great condition lots of more Image and a couple of Wolverines and Web of..... but in there was the "almost complete" run of Evil Ernie #1-4 (missing 5)! Was super stoked when I got home and found it while going through them.. First Time I can say I got something at dirt price.. paid $50 for the full box and I still haven't gotten through it all at the moment.
I'm willing to let it go for key issues of ASM or Uncanny if you have any? Let me know and we can talk more through FB, I went looking for you and just recently liked the page... Thanks a lot!
At the moment I am really not doing much trading or mail order, I just do not have the time. Those are very desirable issues. I am sure you can sell them to buy something else you want pretty easily.
Great video, I will continue to watch for the entertainment value but I have been looking at yard sales and flea markets for 10 years and have never found any of these books for anything less than the actual value
i have learnt more about pop culture this week going through your so enjoyable videos ( i havent seen like half of the videos yet so its like a virtual treasure hunt for me) than the last 4 years i am trying to collect things i like from pop culture by myself. big big thanks. and the viewing party continues.
Yes that is definitely one to look for, I was thinking about including it on the list but it seems to sell for $8-$15 at this time but sometimes seems to pass the $20 mark. I really should do a second video with the $8-$20 comics from that era.
Low to mid-grade Bronze Age and 80’s in any grade are a great target for new collectors. I like your range; it includes all the crap that nobody wanted that will ironically be valuable in the future.
late 70s through the 80s has tons of awesome comics to pick up in decent prices and the most expensive keys are still within reach of most collectors so its an affordable hobby to collect that era.
Just found your channel, and so far loving it! I came for the comics..been having the itch to come back into comic collecting and find it real cool to see all of your thrift shop finds! Makes me want to go hunting and find some!! This list helps this noob out when I do go out hunting!! Quick question thou?? How do you track what you have?? Do you have a app that keeps track?? If so what is it called?? Any ways just subbed to your channel, and look forward to your finds!
Awesome, I am happy you have been enjoying my content. I am really bad at using an app to track everything because I buy too much in the form of collections that I tend to just sort the collections into what I have already and sell off the duplicates. I also keep both newstand and direct editions of comics or any covers that have weird printing errors or colors. So its nice to compare the new stuff to what I have already plus I upgrade when I get better condition. It is not really practical but its how I do it. I know a lot of people use the clz app so that may be something to give it a try. You can enter 100 comics in the demo and I think you can buy the full thing with unlimited tracking for $15. I tried it and it was pretty good, it took a little too long for my tastes though so I rather spend time sorting them instead of entering in what I have. I think eventually I will make a spreadsheet on excel and just make lists of what I need more then what I have already since that list would be smaller for a lot of runs lol But when I am out hunting for comics at garage sales and junk stores If the price is right I grab everything I know has some value, anything older or anything I know I need. I kick myself sometimes because I miss stuff but I buy so much I get over it fast. I think you can track on comicspriceguide.com as well but that seems to be a monthly price and not a one time fee. Thanks for the sub I appreciate it.
I have a Pop Culture store in Brooklyn, NY so I usually stick things I want to get rid of in the shop. I usually try to price everything a little under mycomicshop.com so I know anyone buying comics is getting a fair price.
I noticed that issue shooting up as well. I added it to my list for my next video. I don't think I have one but hope to snag one out in the wild. Very nice score!

I got the first 60 or so issues (including 5,6 and 24) of X-Factor for the UK equivalent of $10 at a flea market, or 'car-boot-sale' as we call them here.
I really should, I wanted to do a series of these when I first made it but it does take a lot of hours to research etc. I am hoping to do a few more when I can though. Modern comics to look for, more comics from the era in this video. Older comics etc.
Pop Fun To Play I’m glad to hear that, and I def can see the work and research you put into it! I really enjoy you suggesting the value of them also, really helps us out. Take your time, but not too long haha, looking forward!
I'm new to collecting comics. I have collected other things before like baseball cards, that would be listed as being worth a certain amount in the price guide but when you actually took it to a dealer, they would either want to trade or would not give you anywhere near what it was worth. Is that going to be the same thing for comics? Back then, we did not have eBay or anywhere online to sell though. Also, if you're careful, how much does it affect the value or grade of a comic if you read it? Should I buy comics for reading, and then buy a separate lot of comics for collecting (where you don't ever touch them, or are slabbed)?
A dealer will always pay you less because they need to sell the comic to make a profit. They are taken on the task and effort it takes to sell the comic and someone bringing them the comics are getting a portion of their value without the work. You can sell comics on ebay and get market value but it will take you 5-15 minutes per item sold so you have to take that into consideration. A comic can be worth $20 with 15 minutes labor or $5-$10 with no labor if you bring it to a fair dealer. And any comic that has a value under $5-$10 is not really worth that much to a dealer when they consider they time it takes to sell so lower value comics will get you an offer of 5 cents to maybe $1 each. You can sell comics in bulk on ebay etc but you will get closer to dealer offer price then full market value. So think about it a long box of 300 comics that are worth $3 on average could in theory make you $1000 but would take 25-75 hours of labor to sell 1 at a time and get max value and you would loose $190 in ebay fees and paypal fees. So you would get $810 for 25-75 hours of labor. So you might make as high as $32.40 an hour or as low as $10.80 an hour. If you bring the same long box to a dealer you should get an offer of $60 to $300 So you have to weigh if its worth it to spend the 25-75 hours to make the additional $500-750 or so. Most people have jobs and are busy to make a new job selling comics that is why they sell them to dealers. My advice, buy comics as entertainment and not so much for value, if you decide to sell and you get some value back that is awesome. If you are looking to collect for value then try your best to buy key issue for a fraction of their value since those comics will be the easiest in the future to sell. The bulk of comics out there in the world have very low value and really only sell well in a comic shop and not so much online.
I might be wrong, but isn't Nextmen 21 the First Color Appearance of Hellboy, not the first appearance that you mentioned? The character first appeared in San Diego Comic-Con Comics no. 2 (August 1993), published by Dark Horse Comics.
I picked up Death of Jason Todd at a convention for 50p, it was in the 50p box and I asked are all the comics in this box that price just to make sure but was cagey about showing what it was and low and behold I bought it at that price.
Nice, it just goes to show if you dig in the cheap comic boxes you never know what gem might be in there. I just found Totally awesome Hulk 22 in a sidewalk sale yesterday for $1 on my way to the comic shop haha
nice video man so what do you think whats the value of x-men from ( series 1) 1963 i just started collection 1-66 in cgc cover how much you think they worth high & low thanks
Off the top of my head I do not know the exact value but its going to be high. If you check ebay completed auctions you can definitely see the approximate cost of each issue.
They may be hard to find at a Garage sale (or anywhere else), but take a look at the Uncle Scrooge comics from this era. Especially the "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" storyline and especially #310. (1998). Good luck finding them though :) Also #219 (1987 I think)
What I do is look at one title at a time on mycomicshop.com for instance Iron man then anything that is cheaper $1-$5 or so I kinda know does not have too much value. Anything they are sold out of or has a high price I then check ebay completed listing to get a good feel for its value.
They are definitely pretty common and have gone up a good amount since the movie. Its funny to think Venom Lethal protector was less then $5 when I made this video but an easy $20 seller today.
Hello there can you do one of Comic books from 1986 to 1999 that are from the $5.00 to 15.00 price range that are collectible or that thay are key issue or very good to have as a bargainer to comic book collecting
I look at finding rare things like the Birthday Paradox, if you are looking for one specific comic for a good price there will be a very low chance of finding it. But if you are looking for a ton of more valuable comics for a good price there is a very high chance that you will find one of them every time you look. I actually still need that one in my collection but from this list I have found at least 70-80 of them for $1 or two at garage sales flea markets, thrift stores etc. And some many times over.
Yeah that issues keeps on climbing. Of course I assume that was a graded 9.8? That will be worth a ton more then a worn copy you find at a thrift store or garage sale. I have only find that one twice in my hunts.
I am not 100% sure which books you are referring too, if you want to know their value most books with a ISBN you can look up on amazon and get a idea of how much the books cost by the lowest listed used copy (Unless that copy is listed in poor condition etc then the second lowest and so on) As for the quality of the books themselves I have not read them so I am not sure.
I think you need to specify some of the "first appearances" you mentioned. Some may be the first appearance in that particular series but not the original appearance.
I love the time era listed because I love comics from that age, give or take! I just started collecting comics and I've found some decent comics, according to go collect. com.
I think nextmen 21 is undervalued because it’s the second appearance of hellboy. Dime press isn’t really a comic, so sdcc is technically the first and the lowest print run of the 3. Hellboy is actually color in nextmen 21 tho
I find your video very informative. I have a Elf Quest #11. Do you know if its worth anything? I'd appreciate your input when you have the time. Thanks!
I am glad I can give you some information. The marvel value for Elf Quest is kinda low, if its the late 1970s magazine the 1st print is maybe $5 at best and the later printings $3 maybe. The Epic comic from the mid 80s is maybe a $1 comic.
I have all of the Wolverine comics. Although #8 Wolverine with Hulk I did not. even though I had a subscription I had changed address and never got it. I picked it up several years later at a flea market boy was I so happy I did. I can remember seeing some of these issues at my local (20 miles away) shop. I wish I had the money to buy them back then but I was a poor broke kid. The # 8 Wolverine Hulk I got for $1.50 ish.
I have that issue as well in my collection, I bought it 15 years ago or so when I was collection everything Geof Darrow drew. I still believe Next Men 21 is the first full appearance and the SDCC is 1st cameo with a couple of other small cameo appearances before the full appearance.
I am happy you enjoyed the video. Its like the birthday paradox, if you have 75 people in a room its very unlikely that someone will have the same birthday as you but its almost 100% certain that 2 people in the room will have the same birthday. With this list it will be very unlikely you will find the exact book you are looking for in any collection or in any sale but if you are looking for all the more valuable books at once its very highly likely that you will run into one of them pretty darn often. I seem to find one of these keys almost on a monthly basis on the cheap (sometimes weekly during peak garage sale season). Honestly I have not run into a New Mutants 98 yet but I have found Batman Adventures 12 2 times very cheap. I consider both of those higher caliber finds etc.
Wow man I gotta back watch to see the ba12 find because that is a hell of a find. Can't believe I just found your channel great stuff man and agree someone out there's finding these books
Glad you found my channel, I buy way too many comics and love to post comic videos but don't do it as often as toys because they are not as popular so it makes me happy when comic collectors find my channel.
I tend to buy mostly older stuff so it is cheaper. $1 bins at comic shops, thrift stores, used book stores. Ebay lots etc. I also buy from comiccollectorlive.com and mycomicshop.com I also hit up garage sales and flea markets in the spring and summer.
I definitely want to do several more of these videos, 2000-present non variant comics worth $20 or more. Rare and variant comics from 1980-2000, variants from the 2000s to look for. More $20 plus comics from 1980-2000 and maybe a 1970s video not sure. But it was fun and it helps me with my collecting as well to refresh myself.
I got a tip. Not for comics necessarily. Furniture stores, I found a bunch of first editions from Kipling, and others. Dummies used them as props. I bought them all for 25 bucks. Sinclair Lewis, The Jungle was among them. Yeah satisfaction.
Please please do some more of these. Books worth $10-$15 would be great. Cheers!
I really do, once the weather warms up and I am itching to go out hunting for comics I will make a few of these to refresh my knowledge and to share with everyone.

I believe 1st full appearance aka hulk 181 and not 180
Or maybe not, its always confusing. I have the SDCC book I think its a couple page short story with him.
Zen Intergalactic Ninja #1 published 1987. First appearance of Zen. Low print run.
That one was not on my hunting radar, I will add it to my next video.
nice video man so what do you think whats the value of x-men from ( series 1) 1963 i just started collection 1-66 in cgc cover how much you think they worth high & low thanks
Off the top of my head I do not know the exact value but its going to be high. If you check ebay completed auctions you can definitely see the approximate cost of each issue.
More of this, please!
I definitely want to do more of these more often.
Full list please ❤️❤️
They may be hard to find at a Garage sale (or anywhere else), but take a look at the Uncle Scrooge comics from this era. Especially the "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" storyline and especially #310. (1998). Good luck finding them though :) Also #219 (1987 I think)
I will add them to my list, with anything even if they are rare if they are on your radar you never know when you will find them.
COMICS ARE AWESOME!!!
Great vid!!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you comics are awesome.
I Iike comic books...i got a couple ..whats best way to figure out the value of them
What I do is look at one title at a time on mycomicshop.com for instance Iron man then anything that is cheaper $1-$5 or so I kinda know does not have too much value. Anything they are sold out of or has a high price I then check ebay completed listing to get a good feel for its value.
Thanks for sharing!👍👍
You are welcome :)
I find venom & carnage stuff a lot out in MA. Some of those fetch good prices also.
They are definitely pretty common and have gone up a good amount since the movie. Its funny to think Venom Lethal protector was less then $5 when I made this video but an easy $20 seller today.
Good job!
I think i own about ten of those. Do more from that era plz.
I definitely need to do more follow ups to this video.
My name is Tony Smith I am your number one fans
Hey Tony, happy you enjoy the videos so much.
@@popfuntoplay OK 👌 🙂
Hello there can you do one of Comic books from 1986 to 1999 that are from the $5.00 to 15.00 price range that are collectible or that thay are key issue or very good to have as a bargainer to comic book collecting
One of these days I want to start doing a bunch more of these to make collecting easier.
Thumbs up great info
Thank you and your welcome ;)
Where did you find Birds of Prey 8 at a flea market? It's the only issue of my BoP run in missing.
It's the first kiss of Nightwing and Batgirl.
Correction... batman adventures #12 sold for $1700 on heritage auctions recently.
Thanks for the great info.
Yeah that issues keeps on climbing. Of course I assume that was a graded 9.8? That will be worth a ton more then a worn copy you find at a thrift store or garage sale. I have only find that one twice in my hunts.
what is your opinion on 3rd edition on garfield and 12th edition of playboy hard bound colored comic book.
I am not 100% sure which books you are referring too, if you want to know their value most books with a ISBN you can look up on amazon and get a idea of how much the books cost by the lowest listed used copy (Unless that copy is listed in poor condition etc then the second lowest and so on) As for the quality of the books themselves I have not read them so I am not sure.
i actually had 1 of the 101 listed lol i have the sensational she-hulk 40 (jump rope cover/issue)
That is a cool one. Hopefully you find more in your hunts down the road.
I have all of those wonder woman comics with George Perez
Nice, his run on Wonder Woman is a very cool run.
I think you need to specify some of the "first appearances" you mentioned. Some may be the first appearance in that particular series but not the original appearance.
Noted, do you have specific issues I mentioned?
Spawn #9. It's the first appearance of Angela. Seen it at a store and they were charging $20 for it.
Ive been grabbing those for years from dollar bins. Definitely one that is selling for more.
Nice video. Thanks man. Have the new mutants cable comic
Thank you and your welcome. Very nice, that issue really jumped up in value the last few years since the first Deadpool movie.
You are a star.
Thank you.
I love the time era listed because I love comics from that age, give or take! I just started collecting comics and I've found some decent comics, according to go collect. com.
Its an era I enjoy as well because it is from when I first started collecting as a kid.
Cool video if you can do an updated one for 2020 :)
Yeah I really need to make more of these.
Excellent video! Thanks!
Thank you and your welcome :)
nice comics books
😀👍
Dude you remind me of Napolean Dynamite's brother. Otherwise good stuff!
I love Technology!
Careful, we both know he's training to be a cage fighter.
I think nextmen 21 is undervalued because it’s the second appearance of hellboy. Dime press isn’t really a comic, so sdcc is technically the first and the lowest print run of the 3. Hellboy is actually color in nextmen 21 tho
Its gone up a lot in the last few years but definitely still pretty under valued.
Thanks very much! :)
Nice, I have always enjoyed that run of Wolverine comics. I remember grabbing the first 30 or so 1 at a time from my Comic shop when they were new.
Mike Mignola has stated that the first appearance of Hellboy is San Diego Comic-con comic #2, not Next Men.
I have that issue as well in my collection, I bought it 15 years ago or so when I was collection everything Geof Darrow drew. I still believe Next Men 21 is the first full appearance and the SDCC is 1st cameo with a couple of other small cameo appearances before the full appearance.
Well done.
Thanks ;)
Awesome dude. Thanks.
Your welcome.
Great Video!!!
Thanks :)
Enjoyed the video but saying that some of these books are easy to find at garage sales is wishful thinking
Gotta get there early, bro.
I found Batman Adventures 12 in the dollar bin at Half Price Books.
!More videos yes!
Just posted a huge comic haul video :)
I found San Diego Comic Con Comics #2 in a dollar bin.
Very nice score!
Thank you for the info. Great video.
Your welcome and thank you. I really need to do a sequel to this video.
I just put up my first video on youtube a couple of days ago. Check it out when you get a chance.
I checked it out, good luck with your channel.
Yes! MORE!! 👊🏼
I know I need to do more.
New collector here.Where do you usually get single issues?
I tend to buy mostly older stuff so it is cheaper. $1 bins at comic shops, thrift stores, used book stores. Ebay lots etc. I also buy from comiccollectorlive.com and mycomicshop.com I also hit up garage sales and flea markets in the spring and summer.
@@popfuntoplay thanks for the information.Just found a bunch of x men comics on Ebay.
super awesome.
great video!
Thanks :)
You should do another one of these vids couse there's so many comics over 20 dollars out there.
Oh nice very cool.
You should do another one of these for a different price
I really should do more of these. Its always on my to do list, but its hard to find time to do them.
Bad ass. Very helpful
Awesome, glad to help. I need to do more of these.
Can I ask which HD camera you use to film this?
I use a gopro hero 5
