Are you sure that it can charge the battery? In my opinion it can't charge the battery. Because the electron from negative probe from charger not reach negative probe of battery through trnsistor. It happened because there is diode which attached between base and emitor of transistor.

Just buy micro dc-dc converter, and connect it to the 4v battery.
