Did Fox News Melt This County's Brain?

  • More than two years after the 2020 presidential election, the small California community of Shasta County terminated its contract with Dominion Voting Systems. They’re the first county in the state to do so.
Three county supervisors voted to end the contract, despite warnings from the county CEO that it will cost more than $1 million to buy a new voting system and train employees.
Their argument? That you can’t put a price on voter confidence, so the Dominion systems had to go.

BINGO! I am not interested in the newscasters' opinions - read the objective facts of the story, period. That you see newscasters as trending hashtags you see the reason - clicks and ad money mean more to "journalists" and broadcasters than the truth and facts. Journalism schools and editors bear a huge part of the responsibility for this - they are churning out talking heads with zero journalistic integrity.

Capitalism. You mean to say: The problem is capitalism. You're welcome. And blaming your parents won't help, if you're a millennial or younger you have the numbers to actually change things, so as far as this Gen Xer born in the only year of zero population growth in this country's history sees it, so far you're all just new Boomers who haven't gotten poisoned by the establishment and sold out yet.. It is because the way to understand something is not by evasion, but by responsible exposure and formal education. The older generation have revealed themselves as more naive, in that they hold on to antiquated quasi-religious views they want to protect, have a generally lower level of education with no critical thinking skills, and an unfamiliarity with the complexity of the internet and how to navigate it.
Before, when they were warning you, their fear came from knowing they didn't at all understand the internet. Now their fear comes from thinking they do, and thinking they know too much.

He was old but wasn't affected by any memory disabilities, e.g. Alzheimer's or dementia, and at 89 he still worked on his farm projects including welding and machining but when it came to politics it was Kookyville, USA. I think it was the Daily Show. Making people angry is the business model of Fox News - it clearly drives their ratings and as their internal emails and texts on the election lies show, driving ratings is the only thing that matters at Fox.

He controlled every news cycle by tweeting something ridiculous in the early morning hours almost every single day.

"The plain fact is that this bogus Christianity has no more relation to the system of Christ than it has to Aristotle. It is the invention of Paul and his attendant rabble-rousers--a body of men exactly comparable to the corpse of evangelical pastors of today, which is to say, a body devoid of sense and lamentably indifferent to common honesty. The mob, having heard Christ, turned against Him. His theological ideas were too logical and plausible for it, and His ethical ideas were enormously too austere. What it yearned for was the old comfortable balderdash under a new and gaudy name, and that is precisely what Paul offered it. He borrowed from all the wandering dervishes and body-snatchers of Asia Minor, and flavoured the stew with remnants of Greek demonology. The result was a code of doctrines so discordant and so nonsensical that no two men since, examining it at length, have ever agreed upon its precise meaning. Paul remains the arch theologian of the mob. His turgid and witless metaphysics make Christianity bearable to men who would otherwise be repelled by Christ's simple and magnificent reduction of the duties of man to the duties of a gentle-man."

I don't trust the electronic voting machines either, but I'm not about to stop voting, and an elected official who was elected via voting using machines made by Dominion or another outfit should keep doing their job. If part of that job includes (according to their judgment) doing away with these machines, they should do so.
If there's a 2% chance that the machines can be hacked, it's probably a good idea to get rid of them. That being said, it doesn't mean that any particular election was hacked.
Either way, the really important thing is to have a paper record in case of a dispute or a recount. The real problem with the GOP's approach to voting laws is their attempt to disenfranchise people of color. That is truly horrible, and has very serious negative consequences for democracy in the US.

In the US if you're making decisions on how public funds are spent don't you have by law to demonstrate you're obtaining value for money? I know in the UK and EU it's a legal requirement and I'm sure it's the same in the US, I can't believe it's not.

@@brontesegard8305 that's really weird, in the EU you have to publicly advertise any contracts for goods or services you want to put out above a certain value (around $150,000 depending on what it is), you have to declare who you awarded it to and there's a fair amount of scrutiny on the process/right to challenge,/FOIA requests.
The idea is basically because you're spending public money (rather than private money in a normal company) you've got to be a lot more accountable - it's not just a shareholder making less profit. I'm really surprised this sort of principle isn't common across all western countries.

@David Hughes The US does have similar laws. The federal government has to report expenditures over $25,000. State and local expenditures may be handled differently depending on locality.
I don’t know that you have to demonstrate any return on value, as you describe, but you do have to provide transparency on the spending itself. I believe that demonstrating value would occur within settings such as our congressional body, or local legislative/municipal bodies. This information is ultimately public as well.

I live in South Africa, and we have a completely manual system of vote counting because nobody trusts the government not to rig the elections. Each political party is allowed to have its own observer at at every polling station in the country during vote casting (which is always done on paper), and votes are manually counted at the polling station in front of the party observers immediately after voting. The final tally has to be signed by both the election officials AND all of the different party observers to become official. If the party observers refuse to sign then the votes are recounted until everybody is happy. It's not uncommon for counting to take up to 24 hours after the polling station closes, during which time nobody is allowed to enter or leave.
It's a completely transparent and trust-free system, and we have never had a political party contest election results.

You think they could get away with it, if it was blatant enough to completely and undeniably prove fraud? You can only push a candidate through with fraud if the vote is within a certain margin, or people will get suspicious; so landslide votes can't be defrauded. And you can only do it so often before people start getting suspicious, so you have to reserve it for significant elections, like the presidency and significant state offices when possible (at least a few close elections have to go to the right, or again the people will get suspicious). If you leave little enough evidence of your crimes, useful idiots will jump to your defense left and right.

As a disabled US Army Veteran, I volunteered to work a polling location here in my home town in California. The process was a wonderful experience to learn more about how local elections work. I was even required to take an education class about how elections work both at polling locations and what at the county election board office. It also was a VERY LONG 16 HOURS of work dealing with various types of people not just who came to vote but also the workers at the county election board. Every question I asked about the process was answered with patient and knowledgeable workers who really cared that the process would be accurate. I believe if everyone would volunteer to work at a polling location or station, it would give many people a much better idea of just how the process really works! But since it's only a small number of people that volenteer, most in this state and country will believe the crazies stories about the elections because they have no real idea how the system works. And now those people with the greatest experience are now being harassed and threatened by crazy people who are willing to believe anything they are told by people on Fox because they were more concerned about money than the truth! And this all started because one deluded person could not accept they lost an election..

Just the fact that Frump won in 2016 says that voting is safe and not rigged unless you convince dumb ppl to vote for you unlawfully. Frump should never of been president in the 1st place. BTW, when Fox loses their case with Dominion, which they will, will ppl who bought into the lie all change their minds. Probably, the voters with half a brain might. but the true hard cultists are too infected with the koolaid to part with their party for the dumbest of reasons, as we have seen them in many videos.
