Hi Alan, thank you so much for the helpful guidance. I'm just wondering at 18:25 ,are the points for conclusions for source questions only or just advices throughout the whole source question? Thank you so much!
Hi Alan, loving these videos and they are extremely helpful given the current situation. One question... is the example of a conclusion at 17:23 not very long, is this realistically achievable under exam conditions etc...
Hi Rory, possibly, I concentrated on making it as good as it could be to act as a model. In exam conditions it could be a big ask, depending on writing speed and how much you've written. You could still get a very good mark with something similar but shorter.
I can’t seem to get any higher than 20/30, currently in year 12 and wondering if this is too low for me to hopefully get a A or A* by next year. I was wondering what mark you think I should be achieving! Also, am curious as to how to keep the best examples in my answer! I find that sometimes I use generic examples. Do you have any tips, I currently keep a News Log and update it but still seem to ‘miss’ the evidence as I feel the generic points fit nicely into an argument Also, just wondering how exactly one can elevate their essay! Mine are stuck on 20/30 and I know I have to boost in each category, what differences can I make to achieve this! Thank you once again for all the help you’ve given!
Hi Laura, 20/30 is very impressive in year12. There have been very few run throughs of the new specification but in the most recent the A boundary was 60% and the A* 70% so you would be in the middle of these two (schools will probably use higher grade boundaries internally). To make a News Log more effective one method is to have a document set up following the specification and add examples to the sections of the spec as they happen. You will also find that your range will improve as you continue studying politics. In terms of improvement pay close attention to your teacher's feedback and look closely to the requirements of each AO.
@@AlanHistoryNerd Thank you this has helped a lot! Just for clarification, if I am achieving 20/30 in each assessment will that put me on track to achieve an A or A* in the final ALevel exam!
@@laurahartley9664 It all depends on what happens to grade boundaries in the future. It is certainly a very strong base to achieve a top grade from. If you had performed at that level in the last set of exams you would have got an A
Hi Alan. Was just wondering. Would I need to have a direct counter point to one of my points? Like, does it have to directly relate to the point i’ve made? Or can i just slot in a regular counterpoint, and evaluate whether or not that’s strong , and how strong it is?
Hi Alan, in year 13 and stuck at 24/30 and sometimes 25/30 - any tips on increasing this and whether this is strong enough for an A* at the end of the year?
Not a bad place to get stuck! In previous years would be close to if not over A* boundary. To push through L5 you need to make sure your judgement is nuanced and fully supported with well selected examples. Make sure all comparison of arguments addresses the extent of agreement/ disagreement not just if they do agree/ disagree.
@@AlanHistoryNerd Thank you so much, just a second question that I've wondered for a while. My teacher keeps telling me I need to emphasise 'significance' of factors - how do I do that in practice because starting a sentence with "This is significant because..." sounds very shabby and wrong
@@jakeaurora7549 This could start as simply 'The most significant factor' or could be comparative 'X is more significant that Y because'. No matter how you write it the important thing is to show a nuanced understanding i.e. not all points carry the same weight/significance
great video, really helped me further understand this. I am really struggling with politics and aiming for an A* your videos really help me out.
Glad the videos are helping! th-cam.com/video/swWbxI8O_Gs/w-d-xo.html have you seen this one?
@@AlanHistoryNerd yep that was the first video I watched on your channel
