I discovered this video years ago and have watched it many times. The thing that stands out to me the most is that their spoken words were just as impressive as their musical performance. To me this is the best band on the planet and I have listened to these ladies everyday since I discovered this video. I must say if you ever get the chance to see them in concert treat yourself. Jump on the Meet & Greet tickets and find out for yourself that these ladies are even better humans than musicians. Their parents should take a bow because they have raised three of the kindest souls ever. ⚡⚡⚡

I have watched this TEDx Talk dozens of times, and it never ceases to amaze me, not only the music, but the short speeches of the Villarreal sisters, especially Ale's performance at such a young age.

The warning's greatness was evident in this presentation. That ending performance Survive struck down any doubts. Ale, Pau and Danni always deliver with power, with honesty and with genuineness. They don't betray themselves with anything that compromises their creativity and journey forward. They listen respectfully as they should, take on board what gives them strength and dismiss the rest. These young women are mature beyond their years, in the lyrics they bring and in their thinking. I am 66 years old and am excited to follow their journey, their music takes me back to earlier years. Solid, honest rock with meaning. They have inspired me, made me laugh, made me cry. They have helped with my mental health. I gave up on music a while ago (except for Nightwish), they have awakened me once again. Cheers, Rich

I ran across this around Christmas of 2018 while looking through TED Talks. When I saw Survive, I had to watch it 5 more times to believe what I was seeing and hearing. Ever since then, not a day goes by that I don't listen to The Warning. Within 3 months I was a member of their Patreon and have never looked back.

This video being recommended to me by TH-cam, is what made me discover this band and after the closing of Unmendable, I was hooked.
They were offered very enticing contracts from big labels, but all wanted them to go pop, sexualize themselves, etc., so the girls stayed independent and financed their albums through crowdfunding, which I and many others happily participated in. In 2020 they finally signed with Lava records, but it took 7 months of negotiation before they signed, while a normal contract takes a month or two at most. The girls read the entire contract and had their lawyer explain it to them in detail, wanting to fully understand what they were getting themselves into, before signing, which seems to be unprecedented in the industry.

My first experience with The Warning was watching a *Wings of Pegasus* reaction to the *Survive* song of this video. I was hooked. That was in 2018. Since then he did two interviews with the ladies. And finally saw them live when they played London in 2023. The Warning are going back to Europe for another tour this April.

This is when I really fell in love with these ladies. When I saw (like you did) that they were all about the passion of the music. They are beautiful women but they do not flaunt it. They do not dress to appeal. They do not act like strippers on stage. They are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd about the music and I love them for that!!!

Yes, the ladies were able to maintain creative control over their music. They were a successful independent band when they were approached by Lava Records, so they weren't looking to sell their souls to sign with a label. It took 7 months to negotiate the contract. My understanding is that the lawyers for Lava couldn't understand why these young girls were fighting so hard to maintain control of their music. What did they have to protect at their age after all? Most young bands would jump at the chance to sign with a label. Those lawyers were shown the ladies' original music of an EP and two full length albums, their Spotify numbers, their social media numbers, etc., and then the lawyers understood that the ladies had something to protect after all. They also fought to keep their Patreon support, which is an outside income stream, which records companies apparently do not normally allow.

What tickled me was the change in the audience’s attitude from start to finish! They went from very conservative to a cheering concert crowd at the end!! Sad thing is, I have lived in Reno since the early 80’s,so I could easily have gone to this if I had known about them at the time. Oh well, a day late and a dollar short!!😂⚡️

she still hits hard and powerfully... sometimes i think even harder than before but yeah... she is a fantastic drummer...
all three have grown so much since this presentation... i have to wonder how many of those people in the audience realize what they saw that day and how many are following DPA/TW today...

Yep, there are some stories about the kind of crappy offers they received, if they had taken they'd already be done for. "Lay off the hard rock, it's not popular right now." That's one we know they heard. As well as how to look and dress. Many of their early connections were people that had no intention of letting them control any aspect of themselves. It lasted right up to signing with LAVA, and that took 7 months to wrangle out. I have nothing but the highest respect for the decisions they've made. Thanks for doing this one. The first one from the year before is also interesting, this 2nd one hits a little harder though. Thanks.

My apologies in advance, if someone already said this to you sir....Fortunately The Warning realized that to get to the next level in this industry, they had to make a decision. It was time to make a deal with one of those labels. They needed the right deal, a smart deal, one that worked for them. Knowing that Deals are just that, a deal to be struck between two parties. They knew what some people just don't realize. They can set the terms themselves. Deals can be made. Now If a corporation refused to negotiate a contract, then they are not worth their time. Next! Nobody forces anyone to sign anything. If people sign contracts with labels like they agree to software terms, without reading them, or caring what's in them, then they get what they get. Smart people like The Warning read the fine print, and negotiated for 7 months, changing the terms until both sides was happy. They also knew they had to make certain concessions too, it's the way the world works. They was just smart about it. After the back n forth was over, everyone, including all three girls, read and understood the final contracts, and discussed the terms before signing it. Ale was only 15, and Pau was only 17, so both parents signed as well. It truly is a family band. They have been smart since day one. They have paid their dues the hard way, the right way, and are now reaping the benefits from that. They still have a long ways to go, but they make solid strides each and every year. We support and trust the process they have made for their future success. So when Dany says Music is Life, she truly means it. ⚡

Great reaction. Apparently when finally signed with Lava Records it took 7 months of negotiations. They seemed thrilled with the results so I’m assuming they retained their creative ability. BTW did you notice Pau breaking multiple drum sticks. A little scary to see pieces flying off.

Only broke one. The piece landed on a cymbal and was launched when Pau hit the cymbal. Most of the audience probably never knew she broke a stick because she is so smooth when switching it out.

That feeling you get when you're having a blast, just jamming in a groove. I saw that look on your face. That joy and elation. There is nothing like it. That creative spark and energy that comes with it. You can see it in their faces and hear it in their words. I can't explain how this presentation has touched me, every single time I have watched it (dozens probably). It is such an amazing, inspiring, presentation, even for an old guy like me. Like so many in TWA, this was my introduction to The Warning. You might want to watch the 2016 Tedx as well. I think this video shows that The Warning is resilient against outside forces trying to force them in directions they do not wish to go. Anytime someone fears The Warning will "go pop" or "cave in" just point them to this video when they were quite young, independent/unsigned and yet still defiant.

Pau’s had a few nicknames throughout her career so far.
Shredder and Animal are 2 of the top of my head. 🤣
I’ve always been impressed with Ale in this TedX. True to form she seemed to be the least nervous of the 3 and of course how good she was at that age.
Dany is Dany already here. While she continues to improve her vocal range the older she gets, all the trademarks of today’s Dany were already there.
Obviously two oft repeated quotes have emerged from this performance that live on today in TW lore.

I completely agree with Ale's self-control, @mjc1389. In fact, Ale is the one who has, in my opinion, the strongest character of the sisters, which is why Pau, who is passionate and sensitive, when she cries she goes to take refuge with Ale to comfort her.

I was very interested in watching RC's comments on the Ted Talk. I was surprised that he kept his comments isolated to Dany's comments on music, and the comments from the band regarding turning down offers because people wanted to change them. I expected to hear something on the performance.
We have all heard the stories about Disney, but I am not sure about those details. I was able to confirm that they turned down several America's got talent-style shows, and its a good thing they turned those down. Besides the crappy contracts where they own you, they will try to change who you are, and the girls have made it clear that they want to be true to themselves. In fact there was a reference where Rudy and Luis had traveled to Argentina to sign a contract, and after going through it again, they turned it down and went home. companies
I have watched this Ted Talk several times over the years, and I think it was one of those performances that helped to put the Warning on the map...... Good for them. They worked hard and deserve it.
