The best (and most rational) argument I have seen so far against the current state of the game, is that this project has been in development already for a couple of years, and has already had a successful kickstarter, patreon support, etc. As supportive as I am, even I have to admit that I was shocked by how little has actually been achieved and implemented in time for Early Access. I was half expecting that we would at least have a human character and a basic stable with an arena and a surrounding area we could ride around. Maybe some basic horse care mini games. You know, have something that would at least make role playing possible. I cannot blame people for expecting even more. Games like That Horse Game (now known as Unbridled Horse Game) had a demo in the past that had more to do than Astride does now. And it was, and still is a free DEMO. Not even official Early Access. I love Astride, and I will keep supporting them, but I am honestly worried that they won't be able to deliver half of the stuff they have listed on their website. And even if they do, I don't see this game being finished by 2026 if this is the best they could do for Early Access after 2 - 3 years. Right now, I don't dare look at the Steam reviews and how many people have already refunded the game. I understand they need money, and had a deadline by which to release the game to the public, but I don't see how they thought asking for 30 dollars for a game in this state would be reasonable and not bashed harshly.
I agree with this 100%. You can still be supportive of the game / dev team and also be realistic of the reality: this game isn't ready. A lot of points you made are right in so many ways, and I hope a lot of these are dissected by the team due to a lot of it being within the reviews.
Yeah you said it perfectly. it has been in development a while and has money, yet it is extremely slow. and for steam release, people are justified for wanting a refund on a game where there is nothing to do apart be a play tester looking for bugs and god knows if it will ever be finished. Like for me astride being 24 euros is not a valid price as of now, they should have started cheap and gone up each time they add more and polish more
Nearly $50 (I'm australian) is actually obsurd. Astride has potentional definitely, but it's barely up to the level of the demos I play that are free. Also, two seperate different games but like you said about Ranch of Rivershine, it is also early access but it's a good example of how most early access games are. It should have updates to come but shouldn't be bare of features. And keep in mind Rival Horse Stars Racing is nearly the same price as Astride and is a complete game. It's pretty shocking to me.
I love astride, it’s one of the best horse games out there. I know we’re getting all the features later in a couple of years, but I think we got a bit hyper for early access with not much in it. I completely support the developers and their Amazing community and how they listen to them, I just wish there was a tiny bit more to come in early access, although they did say they would be releasing updates every month or so. At the moment £20.99 isn’t worth it personally for now, but if you think about it raising to maybe £30 in the future, it’s always better to buy it now imo. A game to come with breeding, realism, roleplay, disciplines etc I think it’s a good price, just not at the moment. Over all astride is beautiful and the bugs are quite funny 😂
Just keep in mind that they don't have to deliver ANY additional features. If you are not happy to play in the state that it's in for the current price, do not buy the game. There is no guarantee that any additional features will be implemented and if it took them 2-3 years to compile a very basic horse colour generator and a few wonky animations, pray that we will ever get a finished game.
@@Siocain yeah! They had to restart the game 2 times so i understand, but the good thing is that they put time and a lot of time to focus on one thing, is what i think really matters. I respect your opinion though :)
I got the free key due to supporting them on patreon, and despite it being a bit underwhelming right off the bat, it still has the potential to do great things. I agree that the price is a bit too much for something like a demo. The jumping is finicky and I wish we didn’t have to start at the first jump over and over again as well. I have high hopes for the future and I’m eager to see it grow. Ps. The dressage move is actually just an impatient/ slow canter aha
Thank you for the honest review. I am one of the people who just make exceptions from time to time to buy a cool game and 25€ for this is just way too much. Horse Tales Emerald Valley cost me less and had much more to offer, even though it had its short comings.
@@superlativesultan6165 No, because that's the final product. Astride is just in the very early stages and is always being updated. It still has years in the making and they only let it be released for feedback and to have people enjoy it and see it progress.
Having bought the early access, I was a bit disappointed because of the wording 'Early Access' I thought the game was nearly done (I'm at fault there lol); as Peachy said, it would be better to have it as a demo. But remembering how small the dev team is, and how beautiful the world is makes it at least, a bit better. Overall, I would've liked more from the early access but it's quite a nice game to fill a bit of time.
I can’t realistically say that in the current state that it’s worth $25, maybe later but not now. Other games have been in development for less time and the demos are free ( and better in my opinion) I have high hopes for the game in the future though.
Actually Bluey is not a kids show! It's a family show for kids AND their parents to enjoy together. It teaches parents fun ideas for playing with their little ones as well as how to deal with awkward kid situations. I think it's so cool.
Tbh this “game” can’t be called a game yet. I know what game development is like and there is defenitly potential in this, but them asking full price for a literal demo is just absurd (and one that 1. Is riddled with bugs, so their players are literally PAYING to do the job of playtesters and 2. Isn’t even remotely worth being called a demo for its lack of features) These guys have passion, sure, but they need someone who knows how the gaming market works because this just shined a TERRIBLE light on their game and the average gamer who doesn’t know/ care for game development will immidiately write this off as not worth their time and money. I’ll keep my eye on Astride because I love the ideas they have. But they gotta step it up a notch, especially when it comes to handeling communication, expectations and hype generation for their fans and followers. Otherwise this game is doomed to fail.
06:00 That is not passage, no -- passage is a trot that is more collected than a regular working trot but has more forward momentum than the piaffe. That does indeed look like the type of collected canter you'd see in a pirouette, although the "pirouette" seen here isn't really executed correctly, it's more just a small circle. But you're absolutely right about the lead, it stayed on the right lead in both directions.
I corrected my original statement on the passage, was definitely wrong on that, I wouldn’t even call it a pirouette, it looks like it’s a work in progress with whatever it turns out to be! :)
Thank you very much for doing a video over the early access! I was planning an literally buying it right before watching your video. Thankfully I didn't because I would have been very upset spending that money and getting so little reward from it. I agree with having to pay bills and such for most people (cause I am one of them) I am happy to buy the game once it has more to do. But asking for that much with barely anything to do in game is not fair to the community that has continued to support them. I will also continue to support them, I have high hopes.
my biggest issue is that the game requires at least 16gb of ram. thought my laptop was gonna blow up when starting the game 😬i wanst expecting such high specs when games such as rdr2 has lower requirements. :( not sure if i can even play the game down the line due to the specs.
Idk if this is a mistake or what but I got the $3 patreon subscription for one month back a few months ago and then immediately uninstalled it because I realized it was just the horse editor, and canceled my subscription, but I have access and was able to download the early release version.
I haven't bought the game yet, but I looked at the minimum requirements listed on Steam to run run the game and I was quite shook. How did you find the optimisation? Is the minimum requirements really what they're listed as?
I personally think $32 CAD is a great price considering you will get the finished product when its fully released, it might raise in price in the future??. Maybe a little too early to release an early access version but I look forward to the updates and seeing how it progresses.
Please keep in mind that the game is being made in Norway, and everything is incredibly expensive there. As a Norwegian myself I find it quite understandable, as the EA was meant to help earn some more money to be able to continue working on it as it doesn't have any other games to lean on.
I did mention in the video that buying this would help the game development continue, but I also think that leaning on an EA game priced higher than most in its stages of development for funding seems kind of low :,) I have nothing against the team and I know everyone needs to be paid, but for them to say “we just have to wait until the EA” and then to release with barely anything in it, it’s only convincing many others to not purchase it from the reviews alone. Idk, I see your point for sure but it still doesn’t make the situation seem much fairer 😔
@just peachy They had to release the early access because of their countries regulation for funding though if they didn't they would lose the funding for the game so it's not like they preferred to release it in this state. True the content isn't worth it yet but it can be a nice investment once the game takes shape 25 isn't much 😊
They got funded multiple times for the game. Tens of thousands of euros. Plus patreon. Plus kickstarter. They've had multiple streams of income for a while now. I'm sure there are some rare people saying the game should be completely free, but most understand games need money. And even with that in mind the price they chose for the content they gave is ridiculous. Starting lower and increasing in increments going along with the content would've made more sense. I don't think I'd pay over 5 eur for a game in this stage of development and with this little content. You're basically financing them to work for them. Some of us work, pay rent, live on our own etc. and understand how this goes. We can see what they're doing and how they're saving + profiting and the, frankly, dodgy ways.. Sure, this is the nature of the world. But not all of us have to agree with what they're doing. 🤷♀️ Might be useful to read up on steamworks documentation too, as quoted: "What Early Access Is Not Early Access is not a way to crowdfund development of your product. You should not use Early Access solely to fund development. If you are counting on selling a specific number of units to complete your game, then you need to think carefully about what it would mean for you or your team if you don't sell that many units. Are you willing to continue developing the game without any sales? Are you willing to seek other forms of investment? Early Access is not a pre-purchase Early Access is not meant to be a form of pre-purchase, but a tool to get your game in front of Steam users and gather feedback while finishing your game."
