They stated in their latest post that if it hadn't been for their contract obligations they wouldn't have released Astride into Early Access for another year. :/ But they also said that they will begin working on implementing features as soon as possible.
I do work in game development, and the person spearheading this game is indeed that kind of unicorn where she is an experienced horse person, and also clearly a very talented 3D artist. They've also somehow managed to find a good animator who is willing to learn about horse biomechanics on a pretty detailed level. The animations are themselves impressive, but the coding to get them to work appropriately is extremely difficult on a technical level, especially with the level of detail they're trying to achieve. So I'm not surprised the system is currently this unstable. This team clearly has some very rare, talented people in it, and they're based in a country that supports its creatives so I think that they're in the best position that an indie company could be in to achieve a horse game as ambitious as this. But the first and most important thing on a project is to scope its size properly and not let it run away with you, and it's also the most common mistake teams (of any size) make that ends up killing the project. This game is extremely over-scoped; they're trying to do everything all at once, at a very detailed level, from the beginning AND also want multiplayer on top of everything?? Jesus. Personally I think they're going to need to split it into an initial game with a bunch of patches and DLC to follow- not a structure that players particularly love but there's a reason it's a common one for games these days. I don't see another option if they want to release anything like a finished game within a decade! 😂Ideally, they should have left things like the more nuanced aspects of the gaits for later, since they're lovely details but ultimately not essential to making a fun game. I think they've fallen prey to their own perfectionism and have jumped straight to the details when they really needed to get their basics down first. It takes AAA studios with THOUSANDS of employees who are all extremely competent in their respective disciplines years to put out a large game, and it's never a smooth process (game dev just be like that). So while this tiny team IS doing really REALLY well and I'm heartily wishing them all the best in the world, I am also very worried for them that they're going to get burned by their own hubris. 😥
Agreed with everything! I think having so much information on social media from a early point of development (which was needed for Kickstarter and is understandable) isnt always great either, as it's tough for some people to understand how the game will still take until 2026 to be ready whereas big game companies don't start releasing information about games until much later. We can all be a bit impatient but I am still hopeful for what's to come! But I think that all these ideas come from a place of passion, and also wanting to please such a diverse thing which is horse riding. People always want more in horse games but really to include everything is a massive thing 😅
Flea bitten might only work with a grey base coat as only greys can be flea bitten. Similarly a tobiano horse always has stockings (white up to the knee joints) The customisation is cool and the animation looks good but the horse models need to improve and I don't like the blue tint.
As far as the controls go i’ve discovered this: u can change the pace of the gait you’re in by holding W down, then if you press shift (and W) from a slow walk you will canter and when you press shift (and W) from a faster pace walk you trot. I haven’t found a way to change the canter lead yet but they might just have not implemented that into the game yet. I’ve also noticed that the horse slows down if you dont press or hold W every once in a while, then again this might be a bug or something i dont know their intent with it. Edit: Also as for the jumping you can only jump the course, as theres no way to trigger the jump yourself. You basically go to the first fence, get the right stride and the horse does the jumping. Then again I have noticed this is still a bit buggy, for me it worked smoothest from like a slower/medium gallop. (Then again this could be affected by my computer)
Okay so... you can put flea bits on the horse only when it is fully grey. Those jumping dots are placed in spesific way as it is a jumping course. Horse delayed jump becose striding was not correct. Horse controls are: w to go faster in that gait, s to slow down the gait or put lower gait, shift to change to faster gait, no need to press space to jump, a is left and d is right. I played before watching yt videos and... with every game i get how the controls work right away even whitout tutorial- just knowing how other games work. Oh and some base coats dont have other mane colors
I was pressing W and S but it didn't feel as smooth in my experience is all...I am not abandoning the game or losing hope, I know it was pre-alpha and they only released to meet government deadlines!
I've learned by now to never get excited for a horse game since I always end up disappointed. Sad fact, but true. So nowadays I just wait til a game is fully developed and released before I try it out or get my excitement going. I hate to always be burned whenever I get excited for anything horse related in the gaming world. With games either ending up being scrapped or not done well whatsoever xD! Astride looks like it has potential tho so I will keep an eye out, other than that I am staying away til we know more about what kinda game it is turning out to be.
One of the only reasons I do play early access games is specifically for the videos haha - otherwise for games outside of the horse genre (aka i can't make videos on them haha) I always wait for the full game so I can feel completely immersed without bugs or thinking 'it will have more in final release' etc. etc.
@@JustAnotherPixel oh yeah I get doing it for content, and I am very grateful for your videos too! Like these types of videos lets us see how the game really is like at this point in time, and we also get a honest review and thoughts from you -- it helps alot of us out saving money etc. I was close to buying this cause I had heard overly positive reviews and hype about it, which made me think it would have more features than the little it has now. So glad I decided to watch your video first to see I'm not exactly missing out not getting this game until it is closer to being done 😂
very strange haha! but understandable :) it honestly surprises me that over the past 12 years they havent actually EVER had a Wednesday they haven't made an update - it's quite impressive

which I mentioned multiple times in the video :D

I'm absolutely obsessed with this game! So exited to see the future of this game! ❤
So amazing! I think it needs a bit more work to realise the actual pre-realise.

Yey New video😅
Hi so i wanted to ask if i Can download it on phone ?❤ 0:49
You can't, unfortunately - many computers can't even handle it, let alone a phone 😅 So a phone won't be able to run it!
First! Love you ❤❤
Hey pixel .what do you think of the new character update being on a Tuesday.
very strange haha! but understandable :) it honestly surprises me that over the past 12 years they havent actually EVER had a Wednesday they haven't made an update - it's quite impressive
@@JustAnotherPixel OMG YOU REPLIED. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! -Amelie PopFlower ❤️💜❤️💜
Omg your expression says it all. Lol
hiiiiiiii
hello :D
You can tell she has never ridden a real horse, the way she talks about the animations like jump.
