- In this video we open the history books to look at the fascinating case of Ivar Kreuger, a Swedish billionaire who was exposed as one of the world's greatest swindlers in 1932. He founded the Swedish Match Company, which is best known today as the maker of Zyn.

You don't seem to have detail knowledge of the Swedish match business. It was based on a Swedish invention called the "safety match", that was patented. This style of match is still called "Swedish Matches" in England, "Allumettes Suédoises" in France, and "Schwedenhölzer" in Germany.
Other contemporary matches used a different chemical process, and could ignite against any material, while the Swedish one only ignited against the special pad on the matchbox. A lot of devastating fires were started with the old style of match self igniting, and lighting the whole box on fire. During this period entire cities could go up in flames. This made spreading of the safety match a matter of public safety. Think spaghetti westerns where they light the match on their cowboy boots, or the beard stubble if they are badasses...
Saying he was the founder of Zyn is also odd, since it is a product that didn't exist during his lifetime, it is also a brand, and not a company. The company is Swedish Match, which he was the founder of...
Bra skrivet.
Yeah, I remember this as well but Wikipedia does not mention it
Yup, got shot 2 times and was labeled as suicide. Just a tip, look at who owns Ericsson today ;)
That´s right!
I am so disappointed that swedish match is not swedish owned anymore.
Almost nothing with a swedish label is swedish owned, Swedes are shitty investors and their financial system and government is so Bureaucratic and stupid that most swedish companies sell to foreign holdings as an exit strategy.
Even those few companies which still swedish owned play the same game of shell companies and trustees in tax havens to operate away from the stupid swedish system.
You can establish a company in sweden online in 15 minutes but that doesn't mean the business is easy and the investment road is full of roses 😅 your nightmare starts after you start the business.
They still make matches, but today they might as well just rebrand to Swedish Tobacco.
Still a swedish company nevertheless, its just how it works with capitalism.
That´s the case with many (most) of them.
I shudder at the thought of what their snus is gonna be like. Americans don't know how to make real proper snus. They put sugar in it for crying out loud. SUGAR.
I love this channel. I thought I knew all of the juicy Wall Street and Business stories until I found Wall Street Millennial. 👏🏻🇺🇸
Yeah, he's running circles around the show American Greed 😂
@@Tinfoiltomcathe doing good rn, American Greed is on a hiatus at the moment.
A man before his time.
This is the first time I can think of that someone who created a Ponzi Scheme actually invested any of the money or had legitimate businesses. There may be others but this is the first one I know of.
Ivar Kreuger is exactly the opposite of this character murder piece.
Thank u ❤
Thank you sir, exactly why It's essential to conduct thorough research, consider the long-term outlook of the companies, and diversify your investments to manage risk effectively.
diversifying your portfolio with a mix of stocks and stable assets. Seeking professional advice now could provide valuable insights and strategies to navigate market uncertainties and protect your investments.
Indeed financial planning and retirement strategies are crucial, especially in today's economic climate. With global economic fluctuations and uncertainties, it's essential to have a solid plan in place to protect your financial future.
One of the problems with this is that the strategies are quite rigorous for the regular-Joe. As a matter of fact, they are mostly successfully carried out by pros who have had a great deal of skills and knowledge
Every week I buy more of whatever is the lowest percentage of my portfolio and try to keep everything around 10%,
yeah that's a good path, focus on a good strategy, relax back and watch it compound within the years. In good time you'll see returns.
Love u guys. Thanks for these educational videos. Love and respect from South Africa 🇿🇦
It seems that investors never learn - far too often greed overcomes common sense and proper due diligence...
the problem here is that people all have different definitions of "greed," "common sense," and "due diligence."
People yes but institutions should have (& adhere to) set standards of due diligence. @@perfectallycromulent
@@perfectallycromulent I would propose a simple definition - that investors carefully research the veracity of the company's claims. Even recently we are seeing examples such as Theranos, WeWork and multiple crypto scams with billions thrown away on transparently false or exaggerated claims. Instead of objective research, supposedly sophisticated investors got swept up in FOMO and jumped in blind.
These AI pictures look like shit. Worse than stock pics could ever be
omg i was about to comment that right now! it seriously makes me wanna stop the vid and watch sth else
Which pictures are ai? I can’t tell
@@rawlyrics9423 Five pictures starting at 11:18 I think. Not sure if you were being sarcastic though :)
Never noticed
They're all over the place sometimes i wish this AI shit didn't exist at all.
What an excellent story. Amazing that I had never heard of this man and his life. No one has as much variety in these "history's great scammers" vids as well as you guys.
Maybe there’s more to the story of this man, after his mysterious death his empire was mostly taken over by the Wallenberg family.
Many claim foul play was involved in his death.
I actually live in the city in Sweden where he had his main match factory. At the former plant there is a museum. They build some pretty impressive automated match machines back then.
I love your history videos.
Correction: Lighters predate the match, they just weren't very good because they leaked or evaporated
10:32 oh shoot they hat 2 legged horses in sweden back in the day!? never knew.
This was a good one. Long and informative.
12:05 so Jeffrey Skilling (Enron) _wasn’t_ the smartest man in the room, bro just pull a Kreuger! Lazy.
; )
Excellent book by Frank Partnoy about Ivar Kruger: The Match King
The most important question: who took control of his companies when he "died"?
Two famous names come to mind. The book "så fälldes en svensk gigant". av Nikola Majstrovic go into detail of all the questions around this case. Unfortunately just in swedish, as far as i know.
9:51 "The cost of dividends increases exponentially as the share count rises."
I may be missing something, but it seems to me that the cost of dividends should increase linearly with the share count unless the size of the dividends per share is also increasing.
I guess because they were not based on legitimate profits - so, roughly speaking, he had to double the number of shares sold each year to cover the dividend payments (assuming all the profits were 100% illusory)
Please stop using AI images - they really look rubbish. The stock images and footage is much better.
Madoff was quite intelligent. SBF was just a complete imbecile and got away with his nonsense because hardly anyone bothered to question how cryptocurrency actually works and how much of FTX's balance sheet was backed by their own cryptocurrency.
They are both convicted swindlers so smart or dumb, they both got caught which means neither was successful.
But they didn't merge with a SPAC, so they thought it was all good!
Smh shit never changes. Damn near 100 years ago and people still let their greed beat out the most basic axiom ; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Genius doesn't exist. If no one understands how their methods work then there simply aren't any methods
I always laugh when late end millenials and zoomers thought zyn and other tobacco products in pouches were new when they've been around for more than a century. They never believe me when I tell them this is hardly a new product.
You should also tell them about crypto then!
This title isn’t accurate. Kruger didn’t found ZYN. The product was first created in Sweden by someone else, and later marketed in the US, a bit more than a decade ago.
This was odd. I was waiting to hear about zyn ripping people off financially.
Sad to hear swedish match was acquired, their snus lists the ingredients on every can which I really like
It's a requirement by Swedish law
This documentary contains too many errors.
So glad the classic Wall Street Millennial start video splash is back.
Noooo, lighters were invented first. Technically, modified partial flint lock pistols were early lighters, ottoman empire, 17th C. lol
🎶 Zyn, Zyn city wasn't made for ya 🎶
Correction, 8 of the current 30 biggest public trades companies of today in Sweden (OMXS30) were owned by Kreuger & Toll AB.
-> Boliden, SCA, Hufvudstaden, SKF, Gränges AB, SEB, Swedish Match, Ericsson.
Which is kinda crazy when you think about it.
But SEB was started by Wallenberg.
"Earnings from various transactions" legit sounds like the predecessor to Nortel's "Earnings from Operations" shenanigans that they used to obscure their unprofitability lol.
16:15 maybe similar to a certain South African business owner today
No because Musk isn't even capable of making his companies seem profitable.
@@Talonidas7403they are prpfitable though, except boring
What do you have against african-american immigrants?
@@tripplefives1402 Solar city....
Elon would have loved Ivar.
these generated pictures are awful
Big hit to the Zynnimatic Universe
So this is who Klaus Strandberg from Hitman was based off of
What building is it at 4.50 m?
Sad to see such blatant Zynphobia in 2024 😡
Zyn Lives Matter 🔥🔥🔥
*nice...*
Zynious 😅
good
This reminds me of Renaissance Technologies… nobody knows how they do it. Everyone simply assumes they are geniuses…
Funny enough The lighter was actually invented before the match in early 1800a atleast it was more used than the common match. Until the early 1900s
Lighters were invented 3 years before matches in 1823
Sounds a lot like Elon
In what way?
Emperor's New Clothes
what do u notice at 10:00
You tell me.
45 mill kroner is like 4.5 mill euroes today.
Was the kroner that more in value?
Lighters were invented in 1823 before matches!
SBF is proud of him .
Baffle them with bullcrap 😂
every generation has their own Kreuger、Ponzi、Madoff、SFB,never fail 🤣
Government would prefer that you smoke cigarettes so that they get their tobacco settlement royalties.
Please make a video of teladoc
Everything Swedish is getting sold, its fucking sad.
Very very well researched video my friend. I can only hope to grow my channel into your quality! Good job on motivating people to follow their dreams instead of taking a 9-5 they hate!
This genious could have been elected president.
You are very bade informed.Tell instead who killed him and stole all off his companies
Apparently has this channel been paid to give out propaganda from the gang that killed him. The truth will come out one day. Read Ivars brothers book.
Please don’t use Ai images again. They aren’t creative and just leave a sick feeling inside of me. It’s like being carsick and annoyed at the same time.
Bruh, stop adapting your personality and ideals by whatever the reddit hivemind decides. I didnt even notice
@@patternwhisperer4048 You don’t find it weird and that something is a bit off? If you can’t tell what an Ai image is, then you need to spend more time on the internet. They are just gross and plagiarism of actual art
@patternwhisperer4048 what are you talking about LMAO 😭 AI steals jobs and its not a "reddit thing" to not want to lose your job to an actual hivemind of robots
Who looks at images? It's helping the channel
no, i cant tell yet.
20% dividend?
Huge red flag
Trading homework is an easy way to make straight A's in school. In fact if you're not finding a way to do this in college what are you even doing?
You should read more about Ivar Kruger this information is not the truth Ivar was a good man and was murdered in France
He sold MATCHES.
This is difficult to listen I don,t konow why but it is. Like robot reading.
use AI to upscale grainy low res pics and stop using AI to generate these silly cartoonish pictures
The AI images are lame.
You Snus... You lose.
Based
Elon Musk. Except today's investor is too stupid to ask for a dividend.
Krüger was a nothingburger compared to Elon Musk
that was so swedish 😂
Bruh everyone does that with homework
Like if you're packing a lip while watching this
in other words, people are stupid
Å nej inte Kreuger
He was not controled by the you know who's.....so he ended up like he did. Shalom !!
Now flip the script for Elon Musk
Who? What?? Lolzzzz
Top 10
Please avoid using AI images for your videos. They look horrible. Love the channel and your content! Thanks!
keep using ai images when beneficial
11:52 not really absurd. That was basically what Wirecard did
ericsson is not world biggest telecom equipment manufacturer. They are only former shadow. Now is the biggest Huawei. They produce even for ericsson all the stuff and supply all the necessary patents and licenses. ericsson basically do not have any core G5 patents, only older stuff what basically expired.
He never said it was the worlds biggest, work on your comprehension skills.
In 2023 Ericsson had 22,9% of the business.
Huawei had 24,8%.
So Ericsson is not the biggest, but still big. They was bigger earlier.
Krueger, is that Swedish?
No, more like German
The family came from Germany at one time and the last name is of that origin.
The family originated from Swedish Pomerania in northern Germany, from where the first Kröger/Kreuger moved to Sweden circa 1709/1710.
🤔....Freddy Krueger has Swedish ancestry....interesting.

Ew AI garbage
Please stop using AI images. They look like shit

Eck.. stupid AI images. 🤮
Aw man, are you using AI art? It's sort of disappointing. I prefer actual historical photos, rather than fuzzy recreations of them with horses hitched backwards and infinite columns on buildings
