Glickman class action lawsuit against the agency, alleging discrimination that resulted in the loss of their land and farms. But when the case was settled, many who were eligible to receive a payout never saw their money due to overly confusing filing processes. The payout to the Black farmers was almost 30yrs overdue. This presumption that the assets of slaveholders only increased and were directly inherited by immediate family amazes me. How do we know that if slaves had been given reparations, a good number wouldn't have lost it in bad investments, leaving their descendants with nothing anyway. Why is the presumption that they would have necessarily accumulated generational wealth?

    • @jayron02001
      @jayron02001 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      The rationale for it is basedon on the fact of other Americans accumulating gemerational wealth.
      But to the point, reparations have nothing to do with whether recipients and their progeny KEEP their new-found wealth.
      Reparations are a debt owed to folks who had lost the opportunity to make a life for themselves and their progeny.

    • @jpvoodoo5522
      @jpvoodoo5522 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jayron02001 , I understand that. But why would we assume the descendants are due anything at all? That isn't how inheritance works. Maybe their ancestor specifically did not want their son or daughter to have anything. Then the grandchild would have nothing. We get into the territory of guessing what someone's last wishes were 5 generations ago, then 4 generations ago, then 3 generations ago. Next, did the company bankrupt in 1934? Are there any assets? It's not going to be simple, like I have black skin, therefore you owe me money. There were some blacks who also owned slaves. Do they pay or get paid?

    • @ambe4825
      @ambe4825 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jpvoodoo5522 Exactly, it has too much theoretical nonsense that needs to sorted through first. For example, I'm part Native American and Irish. Historical injustices were exacted on both groups, so do I get a paycheck for that? Is it even possible for the distribution of reparations to be fair in and of itself? This is why we have statutes of limitations -- you can't just sit on a claim forever, it'll expire at some point. All of the people had a good claim to reparations are dead buy now.

    • @baileydavenport744
      @baileydavenport744 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the crazy part is many reparations for slavery WERE given. like it already happened. many times. and often the reparations that former slaves were given was land that was originally occupied by indigenous americans so not only did they get reparations but they colonized while doing it. real history means nothing to anyone seems like.

Her card game analogy just called all non-black Americans cheaters and thieves because of slavery perpetrated prior to 1866 in America. The cheater and cheated are not sitting at that table in 2024, and Jessica just accused approximately 87% of the US population of the sin of enslaving people. Her behavior is reprehensible here.

    I think it is important to be aware of inequities and discrimination and not be a part of it. However I also think the rulers of this country(and I mean the uber wealthy corporations) love when we become divided and focus on divisive issues like these. That way our attention is not on them, their corrupt collusion with government, their endless wars, putting small businesses and small farms into bankruptcy, price gouging, toxins, endless wars, and making billions while the rest of us get poorer and pay more taxes to support them. United we stand- divided we fall. Its a shell game.

    And once again when immigrants come in and use that argument, you have to stop them in their tracks and remind them why are they here and when they’re here they decide to pay the debts of the land. This is not an argument for them. This is internal and if they were smart, they will stay out of this.

      Amber is as thick as a plank. According to an NPR analysis Black farmers have consistently been left behind by the USDA’s loan system. In 1999, Black farmers joined the Pigford v. Glickman class action lawsuit against the agency, alleging discrimination that resulted in the loss of their land and farms. But when the case was settled, many who were eligible to receive a payout never saw their money due to overly confusing filing processes. The payout to the Black farmers was almost 30yrs overdue. People talk about equity among races while still heavily redlining Black people in Ununited States of America.

    It makes no difference other than from a moral view where these families made their core wealth. Slavery was legal in America as well as around the world. When slavery was made unlawful that's when the funds earned were wrongly acquired. The law then granted 40 acres and a mule to blacks freed from slavery. Said and done. You cannot expect the people today to pay for the abuses of people from over a hundred and whatever years ago. My mother was a Holocaust survivor. Years later she as a victim was given reparations from Germany for the loss. I get no money because I'm not a Holacaust Survivors child. Those seeking rep

Other immigrants did not die for "Civil rights" in USA but they benefit from those opportunities to have access to the best education in America, money for businesses & credit, access to housing.
