It is legit. It's very possible to spend 5 years or even more in county jail. For on you can be in there until your trial is over which can take years and unfortunately for him his was during covid which delayed his trial even more. I had something similar happen where I was awaiting trial then lockdown happened. My trial didn't finish until about a year and 6 months later.
And also I know of a guy that got caught with tons of fentanyl during covid and at that time all jails were releasing everyone that didn't have violent charges. Although he didn't commit a violent crime they decided to keep him in Georgia county jail for 10 years. They do sometimes let people doing smaller sentences in stay in jail instead of going to a prison.
