Great video - what lure weights do you recommend for bank fishing ponds?
6'10 is the perfect length for a spinnerbait rod, especially if you are like me and you primarily fish them shallow around cover and edges of flats. You want a rod that will allow you to get some distance, but no so long that it hinders your accuracy. For me the accuracy is more important than the distance win I have a spinnerbait hooked up, but that may not be true for everyone because spinnerbaits are one of those lures that can be fished a litany of ways and you will be hard pressed to find 2 anglers that fish them the same way. 6'10 MH extra fast rod with 6.8:1 ratio reel spooled with 15-17 pound fluorocarbon. Remember that fluorocarbon still has some stretch, which is why I choose extra fast action rods, because it helps to drive the heavy gauge hook on the set. Now if you fish a spinnerbait with braid then by all mean go with a fast action even a moderate action rod. I personally don't like a high ratio reel in the 7's because spinnerbaits have a lot of drag in the water. Its a high drag lure that you are going to cover a lot of water with, which means you are going to be casting and reeling a lot. No need to wear yourself out wrenching on that thing with a 7 ratio reel. 6 ratio allows you to work that lure anyway you want with a descent retrieve speed without wearing yourself out. Thats just my take on them, but to each is own
I tell you what... The more I use this rod & reel, the more I love it! It SHINES for Spinnerbaits & Swim Jigs but it is also super versatile. You won't catch me on the water without it :)
man, I was cringing when you where fighting that fish! I was hoping the fish doesn't come unbuttoned and send your rod tip into that structure behind you !
Ethan fears nothing! :)
