I am actually one of those few people and I also directly chose Lunatic as my first difficulty (I failed and lower it to Hard in the end though, I still haven't finished any of the game yet). *please do not click read more* 🙏
Edit: Oh and the reason Why I played the game in the first place is not because I watch Touhou walkthrough/gameplay content or any other fanmade content, the reason I get into Touhou in the first place is because I wanted to play Bullet Hell games after a really long time (I used to play Bullet Hell games a lot when I was 5 to 10 Y.O.). I also wonder if playing Bullet Hell game on PC would be easier (It's true, and the reason why I played Lunatic on my first play is because it's easier to play Bullet Hell on keyboard or PC than it is to play on your phone)

Burned out after a while, so I dropped the difficulty to normal, but damn, did those beatings in Lunatic pay off (on the first three to four levels, at least)!
I actually got into Touhou from the music. Mainly the fan songs and remixes. Had to find out where they came from and ended up loving the treasure I founded along the way.

I first got into Touhou during my Undertale phase in highschool, I saw my friend playing and thought "Wow, this game looks fun." So I asked him if he could transfer it to my usb to try, I saw the difficulty options, and ignored all advice my friend gave and went lunatic. My justification was "I beat Sans, I can beat lunatic." Losing all my continues on Rumia and dying before Cirno was a humbling experience

@@DCminh-pe9wf In terms of projectile and damage-object quantity, I would say he would be a very solid 3rd stage boss on Normal. Where he gets you is endurance, as he has an absurd number of phases, and that I would agree makes him a 4th or 5th stage boss.
Keep going. You didn't beat Sans on your first try, why would you beat this on your 1st try? Stay determined. Practice until you get it done.
My first experience when I play Eosd was "wait the movement is the arrow key? Let's go to key config then and change it into Wasd"

You can remap 'em with something like AHK, although I'd imagine it'd be awkward holding Z to shoot with WASD movement...

I love how the song syncs with the deaths in game and how you had to ram into Cirno to actually die against the easy Icicle Fall. The part of changing the lives and bombs to the maximum is also so accurate.
For me I played with Marisa in normal, because only kids play on easy modo, and looking back I don´t understand how I lost so many lives against Rumia, but Patchouli tho, she was the bane of my existence on those days, and somehow I feel she still is.
I remember playing 2hu for the first time, starting with PCB on LUNATIC difficulty because I always thought that it was the "real" Touhou experience.
It was a humbling experience I'll tell 'ya that. After ~300 retries not even able to reach the fourth boss, I gave up and played on Normal.
I already 1cc'd IN and SA, but for some reason Yuyuko still kicks my ass to this day. Completed PCB a number of times, but still no 1cc...

I have around 6 lives by the time I reached Stage 6, all of which were lost to Okuu, with 5 of them from her final spell.
i kinda had a similar story with this too, i first got into the game from the music and my first touhou game was PCB, and i struggled a lot (on Normal, as well), to this day, i still havent 1cc'd PCB due to Youmu practically covering the whole flippin screen with bullets, my personal best as of making this is Youmu's stage 6 appearance.

My whole path to Touhou was epic: I found it thanks to music, I stayed for the memes and the music, I've started playing the games like 2 days after I discovered Touhou and now I can do even Lunatic runs. That's pretty cool now that I think about it

@@pootisbirb6683 Ty buddy, actually i'm trying to beat the game without bombs...because my method is saving a lot of lives and not being afraid of using bombs, bullet hell games are really fun and a true challenge.
@@AngelicAscent Bruh idk how to play like that, i mean, right now i'm playing EOSD and can easily reach Stage 4 without dying but i don't understand when is a good moment to use my bombs, i try to keep them for Stage 5 and 6 but then i die a lot in Stage 4 because i don't see a good moment to use them, it's like "hmmm yeah i can easily pass through this" and then ☠️
@@Leon-ij1je From My experience i can tell You than is really worth using practice mode for learn some patterns, atleast i think this may work for EOSD because i think there is a different bomb system in more touhou games.
Just look which kind of patterns give You a lot of troubles, for me a big problem is Remilia "Dark Sign "Scarlet Netherworld" and also "Curse of Vlad Tepes" these spell cards really make me unconfident, or You can try to "Death Bombing".
So basically i suggest You to use practice mode and learn the patterns, You can mapa here how many lives you are going to spend in each stage and probably have a better idea of when You should use the bombs and find the right moment.
Also keep in mind if You want to try extra stage after beating the normal mode...
*Keep in mind than bombs are really important here atleast if You are trying a good run*

@@Leon-ij1je I have been 1CCing EoSD with 3/4 shot types and I still bomb Cirno's first Spell every run. There is no right moment to bomb, just bomb it.

But fumos are the comfort zone too.
Played I played Touhou 6 - 8 for nearly a year thinking they were cult classic indie titles before I realized just how famous the series was.
That said I highly recommend giving them a play, it’s rough at first but the rush you get after realizing you’ve mastered a pattern is palpable

I started with EoSD and had to take a break and play celeste XD but eventually i got back to it and now i love it so much. Im glad i started with it ಥ‿ಥ
I think it's pretty good for newbies (at least was for me), no complicated mechanics and it shows what tohuou is to a new player, although I think 7 is still better due to it's mechanic being basically allowing the player to take 1 more hit.

When I got into Touhou, EoSD is my first game.
I first started with thousand night anamnesis, a fan mobile game that is mainly a boss rush style thing for a lot of the Touhou games, featuring all of the bosses from the games they feature, but only 2 stages have an actual non boss section, meaning when I played an official one I struggled a lot more with the fairies, and when playing a mobile danmaku game, you are much more adjusted to being able to move at any speed with infinite precision, so when I realized I needed to use arrow keys, I suffered.
Also, I played thousand night anamnesis on an Ipad with an apple pencil, which is why I am saying that I could be more precise.

Phantasmagoria of Flower View was my first Touhou experience. Because I was looking for a game like Twinkle Star Sprites
The first time I found about Touhou was in 2014 with Alice Margatroid channel where she would upload covers from the games. Since then I haven't stop loving the series, one of my favourites on the game industry.
Kinda sad that the franchise from "outsiders" is only know from the Fumo plushies
First, a good 10 years ago, it was Super Eurobeat, then it was Intial D. I found that Night of Nights remix, "huh, wonder who that maid girl is". Then, Touhou Eurobeat, and finally Touhou Project uncovered itself to me. I never actually played the games since I never found a website I could get them from until I stumbled upon moriya shrine a year or so ago.
Huh. My first experience with Touhou was HSiFS, so I didn't get the Touhou fan playing their first Touhou game experience. I'm not great yet, but I'm decent. And I got into it a couple months before Fumos became popular, so I feel like I'm not in the latest generation of fans.

Huh, I was getting worried I was one of the few who got into touhou because of the main games.
I got into Touhou back in 2021 all thanks to a video that isn’t even related to Touhou (it was a video of KuruHS featuring a NFS ProStreet mod). In that video, there is a part where Cirno Fumo on a roomba is featured as a car, I searched her name and found out she’s from Touhou. I also have heard the name “Touhou” from videos by The Electric Underground. I already have experience on shmups (but still unable to 1cc some even on the easiest difficulty). And the fact that EoSD is also my first Touhou game and this video shows EoSD is really accurate, except I made it to Sakuya on Easy and I thought she’s the Final Boss lmao.

There was never anything quite as magical as when I first got into touhou with my first game being PCB I love the community so frickin much and it's always an absolute joy to be a touhou fan
For quite a long time had an interest in Touhou. But no one I talked to knew much about it. Then stumbled upon my current set of friends, one who has followed Touhou for years and happens to know most games in and out (also quite good at them), the lore, etc.
So yea… After just off the cuff telling them about my interest after we talked about Touhou a bit one day, that’s how I got into it.
I just started playing for the first time a couple of days ago, but I've always played on Hard mode ever since to make it more entertaining. Maybe I'm a masochist.

Some guy wouldn’t stop spamming Fumo in a server I was in so I naturally started to hate whatever’s Fumo was (not knowing of touhou at the time) it kept going until I heard remilia and cirno rap. I got a little interested after that so I looked up the full thing and fell into the deepest rabbit hole of my life! The music ZUN makes caught me off guard, since the first touhou sound I ever listened to was Sakura of the dead, (such a beautiful song) now I’ve been a touhou fan for about a year now and have all the main games bought and downloaded and I have a playlist of almost all the touhou songs. It’s like an everyday thing part of my life now.

Around 2011, i met touhou from hisoutensoku, a video of it fell from a parachute on me at youtube but it was all in japanese.
So i started to search everywhere for the game and found it, after some time maining remilila i went after her on internet and discovered her art of th6 and i went "wtf is this" but my love for bullet hell started from there (and the knowledge of not having stage 6 on easy modo in the same game, which made me switch to normal in any subsequent game after that).
Somehow i started to love zun's art (it really has a charm on it) and loving the songs, this become a portal to vocals and arranges (starting with Foreground Eclipse).
Today i still suck at this game but it turned as my favorite genre having some fanmades and other bullet hell games on steam.
I dont remember from who i saw that video but i am truly grateful for it.
I found out about touhou after hearing some songs 11 years ago (16 years old, becoming 17 in a month btw), at the same time as Ikaruga.
I forgot about Ikaruga, eventually, but Touhou was still present, some things I saw were kind of weird, and now i know they are touhou references.
In august, 2021 decided to give EoSD a shot, I knew it was hard, and I knew I would get my ass kicked, some people in this comment section said that they thought they were ready for higher difficulties at the first playthrough because "I beated Sans". I've beaten Sans, third try, and still knew that my ass would be kicked to oblivion.
After going through a full afternoon trying to make it work, get the v-patch, get the original japanese characters for some file's names (otherwise the files wouldn't be found), getting thcrap and deciding wich translation to use (there are various translations for spanish, even troll translations, ended up using the argentinian spanish one), finally played the game, and as expected, the game kicked my ass on normal, since my first run, Patchy was my limit.
At the time, I already 1cc'd EoSD once, can't do it again apparently. Now I'm also playing PCB, IN and DDC (to see how much the games changed over time), also gave a shot to the PC-98 games, those are in other pc now tho.
This game ended up being fun, I love this.
I got into touhou because Sakuya (my friend dragged me inside), but I'm aware that touhou games are really challenging so I thought of trying it too and damn it is so hard even in th6 normal 1cc (It took me 1 month). Comparing to now, I literally beat god of hell. What an improvement...
my friend made me play subterranean animism and boy do i wish i didnt die to the mid boss but what really kicked it all off is when i played aocf then i started finding all of the official 2hu manga
I wasn't a Touhou fan the first time I played EoSD, just a STG fan. Rather, the first time playing EoSD is what made me a Touhou fan, because it's a goddamn good shooty shooty bullet game.
Man when I got into the games I was in a very dark place in my life... it was 2020.... my "stepfather" you caould say did very VERY bad things. Unspeakable things. I barely passed the grade I was in because of covid. And then I found some random touhou videos on my youtube recommendations for some reason... I looked into it. Looked extremely fun....So my first game was EoSD.... and well it did bring my mental state up considering how difficult and punishing it is. And well it basically cured depression like how dark souls cured people's depression. By making you push forward... making you fight harder. Making you stronger. And 7 months later I got my first 1cc, it was in MoF on Normal mode. The best part was... it was pizza day that day as well. Now well... I'm much better at the games than I used to be I'm a hard mode player. Also if there is ANYTHING playing touhou taught me, no matter who you are you can get better at anything as long as you practice enough. I never thought I would even get my first 1cc. But here I am. I have every 1cc I have gotten on my youtube channel, every first 1cc I should say (except for my very first one because well... my replay is broken) just by the titles of all my 1ccs. They all just tell how hard I worked for them.
Edit: Now that I think about it, playing the games taught me a lot about perseverance in general. Even though it's hard, my goal was to get better, it wasn't to win initially, I just wanted to say I was decent at the game. But then when I got that spark of "oh my god I might be able to 1cc my first game" that's where I knew... I could be actually really good. Where I am now, I feel like I'm good but not THAT good. I don't wish I was amazing at the game, I wish for me to be able to get to be amazing, the only way to do that is with practice.
I tried it on normal, I don’t know how you can’t get past Cirno at least. It’s Patchouli I have trouble with
I think it's because her fast moving bullet in the opening attack, her icicle fall make people went panic if they don't know the trick yet, and the bullet rng bullcrap on perfect freeze. That Eosd rng bullcrap is the one who kill most of my 1cc run
@@natasanjaya778 I can see that, the perfect freeze is a bit troublesome. But just stay in focus and when it gets dicey just bomb if you have to
It's not even helping that Patchy's spell cards change depending on which character and which shot type you play with
@@gundamguy6651 Perfect Freeze is one of her easiest spells IMO. Just mentally zoom out a bit, and focus on the voids. Now, once you start getting crisscrossing projectiles like Ice Sign "Icicle Fall", I start dying.
@@galvanizeddreamer2051 perfect freeze is supposed to make you panic with the sheer number of bullets onscreen. All of them move in different directions and that makes it kind of hard to find a safe spot while shooting at Cirno.
This is an accurate summary of my first time playing the games. What can I say, bright lights scare me.

When i first played touhou (i chose lolk as my first game) i played it on easy mode
once i reached doremy i was super dumb and thought “I’m ready for lunatic”
after that i straight up wanted to quit but decided not to the next day
I like that one of the deaths was to easy mode Icicle Fall despite the giant safe zone that one has.
THE MUSIC SYNC I CAN'T
I remember my first encounter of touhou was seeing a certain blond haired protagonist in a thumbnail, a few years later, while playing funky friday on roblox, i saw these "touhou songs" in the game, tried them out, enjoyed the music, searched for the fan games and finally moving on to the main ones (tldr basically finding about touhou thru funky friday, ashamed but thankful)
I saw a flash when ez mode was selected. I knew in my soul which picture that was.

I first heard of Touhou through the music, then when I found out it was a game franchise, I downloaded every official game and started with Touhou 1: Highly Responsive to Prayer. I did this because I always start at the beginning of a franchise. I did this with Zelda, Fire Emblem, Metroid, Castlevania, Mega Man, etc.
My first impressions were wildly different from everyone else's.
I went straight to the games when I heard about touhou, I've normal survival 1cc'd every main game except 12 and 15
I've moved on to other shmups that have different playstyles/patterns since touhou tends to have slower bullets (but denser and more patterns) and a lot more and easier extends
I'm stuck on the extra stage in EoSD for over a week now. My determination is at its limit but I won't give up until I beat it.
Its been only a few weeks since i started playing this series.
I had decided to start from this game, Th6 EOsD.
And man, It was a crazy experience. And i can say this video is so relateable.

I got into Touhou because of Touhou Spell Bubble, so when I got EoSD I tried normal and got my ass kicked by Patchouli's Stage.
Let's just say I'm better at platformers than I am at bullet hells.
my first game was 6, my first clear was 8, and my first 1cc was 13, since then i managed to 1cc both 6 and 8 as well as 7 and 18 and have been striving to 1cc all of them with 15 being the final boss

The earliest experience with any Touhou thing that I can remember was Bad Apple being played on Task Manager. I think I've first seen the word "Touhou" on the Wikipedia page for moe anthropomorphism. I also heard a lot of Night of Nights and seen plenty of fumo memes but didn't really know it was Touhou. I eventually became curious and did my own research. Eventually I decided that I was going to play the actual games. Just a couple months ago I first tried EoSD on easy mode. Just like in your video, Cirno kept destroying me. Thankfully I've practiced a lot and searched for tips, and the farthest I have gone on Normal mode without continues was Stage 4 midboss with Reimu A. I've also tried a bit of Perfect cherry blossom and Mountain of Faith since then, but my main goal is to 1cc EoSD on normal!
I went straight to the hard first, I'm not crazy enough to go through the lunatic and I know if I start with the normal I will get lazy to try harder
But still didn't passed remilia lol, Sakuya always kicks my butt XD

I have a long history of how I met touhou, but it is not important, I still knew or was told that if I was going to enter this, I will enter through touhou 6, but ignore it and start from 1

i got into touhou back in 2016 from the JZ boy undertale x touhou animation. music was banging and the game seemed fun so here i am
first came the music, then the fumos, then the game came over and i died to izayoink because my dodge stat was low as hell
First time i let on default settings, and went to the last stage in easy mode (I lost to Sakuya) (and lost all my continues on my way obviously)
You even got the correct first game for most fans, including myself.

I got into Touhou because I'm a HUGE Metroid fan and I came across Luna Nights on steam. The mainline games are hard for sure but I had a lot of fun overcoming the challenge, especially while listening to the music.

The firs Touhou game 8 ever played was SWR , when i was a kid i was very into fighting games , and i was very glad i found SWR, then i decided to give the other games a try and I didn't regret.
