Tho these are some of Prok's earliest works, and - being etudes - are not his more structurally complex, I must say I've always enjoyed the almost cartoonish level of grotesque "Prokofievanness" that the composer repeatedly brandishes in Opus 2. (similar to the Sarcasms, I guess) I learned No. 3 as a kid, which helped my technique enormously. Great preparation piece for students planning on tackling the toccata. I can hardly count the ways in which Prokofiev uses this framework of meshing a chromatic scale w/ an overlying chord progression within one hand. Toccata... Sonata 2 Mvt. 3, literally throughout 75% of it (latter 3 of the ABA'B' structure) .. Sonata 4 Mvt. 2... Visions Fugitives No. 1... it's all over the place, and I love it.
Far better then False prophets like Wang Lang or Rana!Bravo!He is also very aristrocatic in his gesture not with stupid and false movements that make so much pose and hit stupid public!Can I give an advice?Listen to gyorgy Sandor version and all that Prokofiev recorded especually solo pieces ..and don't study too much with metronome!
Masterful interpretations by Mr. Liu. The best I have ever heard of these fiendishly difficult masterpieces.

Fine performances! Bravo! Though it may not appear to be so, the third piece is exceedingly difficult and Ji Liu plays it brilliantly.
