I was quite fascinated by the lady's (the "wife" ) bright dancing eyes as she thoughtfully absorbed the audio and visual impact of this Rundgren classic . I could not take my eyes off her reaction !?!😊😊
What a lot of people don't know about Todd Rundgren is that he is an incredibly talented musician and every instrument you hear in this song he played himself
FYI: The song is about a high school crush and first girlfriend named Linda who’d shot him down on her father’s instructions. “She probably liked me because I was the only guy in school with long hair,” Rundgren recalled. “We became close and hugged and kissed a lot at parties. “One day in May ’66, a friend dropped us off and I walked Linda to her front door,” Rundgren added. “Her father, who was outside, hated me on sight. He turned the garden hose on me. Long hair on a guy was a political statement back then and a red flag for parents. A day or two later, Linda told me she was forbidden to see me anymore. Just like that, she stopped talking to me and wouldn’t take my calls. I adored her and was heartbroken, almost suicidal.”
My wife and I saw him last night in Laughlin, NV and I lwas blown away (7/6/24). Most of his lyrics are very deep, and intricate...like poetry, and very complicated. He played for two and a half hours, and his voice and energy at 76 was incredible! Bouncing all over the stage singing and playing guitar...I was blown away...the first time to see hiim...boy have I missed out! He even did a capella Irish folk song with beautiful harmonies from his bass and guitar player. Absolutely incredible...one of my top ten of all time, and I have seen hundreds and hundreds of concerts!
This tune has happiness in it from my childhood. Here is some super intriguing facts about this super talent. He also has a super big heart. Him and his daughter would both learn she is "Steven Tyler's" (Aerosmith) real daughter. Liv Rundgren(Tyler) was 10 yrs old when finding that out. They all worked together and he has always remained her "Dad"
I enjoyed your reactions to Todd Rundgren's "Hello It's Me" fro early '70s. It got a lot of air play in it's time, on of the songs you liked but you'd hear it so often you'd immediately change station. Check out his first hit w Runt, "We Gotta Get You a Woman", very catchy. Todd is also a top tier producer, have worked w Grand Funk RR, Meat Loaf, New York Dolls (great band, loud guitar Rock) Patti Smith and others. Love you guys playing some forgotten gems from 60s, 70s +80s.
Todd is a very sensitive songwriter. His ballads are among the finest ever written. The studio versions are superb. I recommend " A Dream goes on for Ever","Can We Still be Friends" and for fun, "Bang the Drum all Day". Keep up the great reactions!
This song has a tinge of sadness... but the overall effect is that 2 people can break up, and still retain a relationship of some sort. They're adult enough to figure things out. Todd is one of the best musical artists of the rock era... he's also one of the best producers. He decided after his first few hit songs to follow a different path, and satisfy his inner muse... and only rarely afterwards has songs on the hit charts. This song, I Saw the Light (much more cheery for you!), Can We Still Be Friends?, Bang the Drum All Day, For the Want of a Nail all got on the radio, but he has hundreds of very strong songs & a couple dozen albums. He's also produced great albums by Meat Loaf, XTC, The Band, Psychedelic Furs, & Grand Funk Railroad's 2 best albums. I've seen him live more than 40 times... Todd lives in Hawaii, and he's still tours constantly at age 76.
The best known recording of this is from the Something/Anything album where three of the four sides were just him playing and singing everything, But Hello It's Me was on the fourth side and he had a bunch of friends playing with him. Edgar Winter played sax.
Some of the Rolling Stones' best songs are sad and melancholy... Angie, Wild Horses, Dear Doctor, No Expectations, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Let it Bleed, Love in Vain, Sister Morphine, I Got the Blues, etc. In some ways they were (and are) the opposite of the Beatles' many happy and upbeat songs. Pink Floyd couldn't even exist without sad and melancholy 😎
It went down on The Midnight Special. I was born in '60 and grew up in the middle of the cornfields of Illinois. When The Midnight Special hit the airwaves in the 70's I'd stay up late every Friday night to watch it. That show was my window on the world. Todd Rundgren was one of the most creative artists of the '70's. He pioneered several studio techniques and he wrote many wonderful songs too. Thank you for sharing this one. 🙂
Listen to Mated! It's me and my hubby's song! We're married 34 years on Sunday but together for 37❤! Love watching you two , and your love of each other and music❤
I grew up listening to this song and I really love it. However, I've never seen this video before. I'm glad I didn't ! I'll just close my eyes as I listen. LOL!
Just watched an interview with Todd where he talks about the "girlfriend" in high school who inspired this song. He was "in love" but her parents didn't like his long hair and told her she couldn't see him so she "ghosted" him.
Thank you so much for your channel and the wonderful, heartfelt reactions. Todd is a brilliant artist who has impacted so many aspects of music and technology his whole adult life. He continues to make original music and tour into his mid 70’s with a new tour stated just yesterday. Never one to rest on his laurels, Todd continues to re-invent himself and push the boundaries as a true artist. There are so many rabbit holes to go down with regards to his career and if I were to offer some advice for finding his commercially accepted works…look around for his 2 episodes of “Live At Daryl’s House” or his many appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman” or on “Night Music with David Sanborn”…all of which have wonderful videos of live performances. I believe that Todd has impacted your musical world as much or more than most, it’s just that you never knew. I would love to follow along while you discover this mans musical impact on the world.
If you are not into the sadness of life.... don't listen to the blues or country music..... Hahaha Todd is A Wizard A Star (album title). He was our generation's answer to Prince.
I am so happy to see you hear this I saw Todd many times in the 70's In small venues. Where I lived in Ohio we were able to see many great musicians in small clubs. For very little money.
love this song. Todd Rundgren is by all accounts a great human also. He raised Steven Tylers biological daughter as his own and they are still very close.
Saw a billboard driving on the I-10 freeway through Palm Springs California that Todd’s gonna be in concert at the Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella California June 22! Might have to get tickets after watching this. Forgot how good he is!
Saw him 7/6/24 in Laughlin...killer show...first time seeing him and I was blown away. Played for two and a half hours...still has a killer voice, and the energy of a teenager. One of my top ten concerts of all time....I have seen hundreds upon hundreds of concerts and he blew my mind. His band is killer too!
@@jeffwarren4938I love Laughlin! Me and my wife caught a water taxi last year at the Golden Nugget to go down river and on the captains license by his tip jar his name was Kirk! We caught a ride with “Captain Kirk!” 😂
@inway404344 Sweet...I go to Laughlin/Bullhead City at least once a week. My wife and I moved to Kingman, AZ four years ago, from southwest Indiana, to be closer to my daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids in Southern California. Next concert for me is Blue Oyster Cult in September over in Laughlin. I last saw them way back in 1981 in Indiana. Have a great day!
I really look forward to both of your reactions. Like "the wife", I can appreciate a sad song. A little melancholy now and then will never hurt anyone. And this song by Todd is just another one from the soundtrack of my childhood. It's funny how a particular song can evoke memories from decades ago. But again, great reactions guys!
Andrei....As you know, everyone is different. Clearly, you prefer the songs with the happy lyrics, even though you have internal struggles, like we all do. Myself, I have always been drawn to the sad and melancholy songs. Ironically, it helped me express and live with my deep depression and anxiety when I was young when I had no other help. The song 'All I Know' by Art Garfunkel was a good example. But, I do love good music of all kinds....for the most part.
Wow! Once again school bus memories with bus driver music. 🎼 don’t be discouraged by his on stage persona bc Todd is brilliant songwriter/musician(multi-instrumentalist) he has musical range…
Always loved him and he still sounds great. Never cared that he felt the need to do the makeup and crazy clothes but it was a time when David Bowie, Alice Cooper and many other musicians felt they needed to be unique and stand out. I just don't think it was necessary for him. His writing, playing and singing is brilliant on it's own.
👑 💀💭•••Michael Kane✈ 🙊👉•••Okay, a little bit of history from Todd's life. From 1972 to 1978 he dated a playboy playmate Bebe Buell. Bell had dated several rock stars including, mick jagger, iggy pop, David bowie, Jimmy page, and a few others. In 1976 she snuck around with Steven Tyler and became pregnant, but then let people believe Todd was the father of that child who is famous actress liv tyler. Liv grew up thinking Todd was her dad and kind of still sees him that way. She was 9 when the truth about her real father was revealed.
But i can write to you in English. I want to suggest you do a reaction to the warning. They are 3 sisters from Mexico that are in a popular band in the United States. The warning song i suggest to for you to react to is the warning Atlas rise video. I will write to you soon for more suggestions. Muchas gracias. Alex estados unidios
Todd Rundgren got weird, costume looks like a big house plant that some how is alive and singing, it doesn't go with the narrative and subject of the song. The song itself is to me 'Just Okay'
Your viewpoint on why do people have to be sad and sing sad songs? I mean, that's 75% of music, at least! You should find something else to do. Your wife is NOT a crazy person. Sheesh.

I love Todd Rundgren. He was our Lady Gaga of our time. Another great song is Can We Still Be Friends and I Saw The Light.

Todd Rundgren played all of the instruments on the original recording of this song. He has many more great songs.
The original was by his group Nazz and was not just him playing everything.
The best known recording of this is from the Something/Anything album where three of the four sides were just him playing and singing everything, But Hello It's Me was on the fourth side and he had a bunch of friends playing with him. Edgar Winter played sax.
Vulnerability. It's beautiful in Todd's song, and in your honest reactions. Keep it up! :)
The longing in his voice reminds you to measure the moments you have to show love to the ones love ❤. Life is brief ❤
Show love to the ones you love 💘 ❤
Oh yeah
We were able to see all the great musicians on TV for Free
todd rundgren is a genius the weird costumes was a part of the 70's kiss the band new york dolls and even elton john !
Love is the Answer by Todd with his amazing band Utopia.
Such an all round musician, singer , songwriter and producer. You can't go wrong with Todd. He had a progressive rock band called Utopia.

You went off on a thoughtful tangent, Todd can do that. He is a Wizard, a True Star.
This is the quintessential 70s pop song. It is a sad song, but beautiful as well.

The recording of this song has an iconic outdo.
Outro….lol
I've never seen him in this version. Look at his story in helping raise Steven Tyler's daughter. He stepped up.
pure genius!

Yes it's a very sad melancholy song

In small venues.
Where I lived in Ohio we were able to see many great musicians in small clubs. For very little money.
His best by far was "Saw the Light" 😊
One of my all time fav songs!
Todd is such a huge artist. It's not Todd that on trial here guys (wink wink).
Beautiful love song from back in the day. Just so much great music with which we grew up. Peace out.
He played all the instruments on the studio version
Love this song. The studio version has horns and backing vocals that take it to another level.
Love your reactions! Keep them coming please. 😊
One of those radio songs then, but it brings me comfort now. Todd Rundgren was on Darly's House with Darly Hall, and it was very good.
I always loved TODD, GENIUS 😅
Great song saw him in the 70s, He also produced and played guitar on Meatloaf Bat out of hell,
Love this song and all the 70s soft-rock hits and one hit wonders. You should do more of them. You will love it.
I too love music that makes me feel you know ✌️
love this song. Todd Rundgren is by all accounts a great human also. He raised Steven Tylers biological daughter as his own and they are still very close.
He has some very deep lyrics- can play all the instruments in his songs and produce them as well. He had a group called Utopia that I enjoy too

Todd is a legend 🤘🤘
Try reacting to Todd's band Utopia doing love is the answer or the wheel. Nice reaction
Once you know what the song is about, it's very endearing to what he is telling her. Read the background of the song.
Deep deep deep rabbit hole.
Hablas Espanol? Hola ! Como estan. Soy nuevo subcriber ahora . Gracias . Alex de estados unidos

I Saw the Light
I saw him. Early on he used alittle make up. This song hit top 10 back then. Great song!
Try 'I saw the light' by him
Wait until Andre finds out about *blues* music... a whole musical genre based on melancholy and sadness 😂
Sad songs say so much... 😎
You keep reminding me of good stuff I'd forgotten about. None of the things you've failed at make sense.
Please watch Todd on Daryl's house. Its recorded in his house on Kauai Hi. You won't regret it.
The studio version please.
