Once you've read all of CFYOW you will understand how Aizen truly felt about Tousen. Based on what we see from their interactions and conversations, I don't think Aizen was lying about his reasons for killing Tousen.

I think a bit more clarification would be good. Tousen is probably the closest thing to a friend you could say Aizen had. In the novel it shed more light on that relationship and Tousen's dedication to justice. Tousen himself told Aizen to kill him should he ever start to sympathize with the shinigami again.
He was that dedicated to his revenge/justice that should his heart ever begin to waver that he rather die. I actually found that to be really deep. Tousen was such an interesting character especially being an anime character of colour where their depictions are sometimes poorly done.
Lastly, it was with Tousen that Aizen realized if he did have to kill Tousen he would truly be alone. If he achieved his goal too, Tousen said something around the lines that he wouldn't be able to share it with him. And even if it was for an instant this made Aizen hesitate....a trait he has never shown. Really great characterization that sadly should have been in the manga and not some novel most people have not read.

Aizen reminisces of a certain conversation he had with his most trusted confidant. At an unidentified time in the past, Aizen told Tōsen he would fulfill any wish the latter had in order to show his gratitude to his most loyal follower. As Tōsen admits there is something he desires, Aizen is intrigued when the blind Shinigami asks for Aizen to kill him should the need arise. Tōsen explains that, should he ever find peace and forgive the Shinigami, he wants Aizen to erase him and his memory from the very world.[10]
While a curious Aizen assures Tōsen that the Shinigami might forgive him in turn if Tōsen decides to repent and turn away from Aizen's plans, Tōsen replies that should the time come he were to accept the world of the Shinigami, his "justice" will cease to be justice and become mere murder, and because he already betrayed Kakyō once by turning against her beliefs for peace, he cannot bear the thought of doing that for naught. Continuing, Tōsen asks that should he ever lose himself in the nonexistent goodness of the world, he wants Aizen to show him mercy and kill him.[10]
Respecting Tōsen's wishes, Aizen asks him what would happen should Aizen succeed in remaking the world instead, leading Tōsen to answer that a vengeful being such as himself does not deserve to exist in such a world, therefore he would kill himself should this come to pass. As Aizen notes that, regardless of what happens, he will lose his most trusted confidant, Tōsen attempts to apologize. However, Aizen interrupts him and reveals that he knows Tōsen's words came from the depths of his heart. Asserting that knowing one's weaknesses is necessary to ascend, Aizen contemplates his actions while staring at the Hōgyoku and mutters that fear is also necessary to ascend. Aizen turns back to Tōsen and vows to kill him should he ever find forgiveness in his enemies.[10]

He probably has a backup plan that only Tozen knew the truth to and so he killed him before be could say anything. No Villan kills a guy out of mercy. I doubt aizen will die. @@fruitpunchsamurai7482 lol. Im going off confirmed info in novels not some head canon.
Aizen before being returned to muken:
"It was clear that Orihime Inoue or Retsu Unohana would have tried to save Kaname Tosen once they arrived. I don't think any of you could understand what that would have meant for him. If Kaname Tosen had lived, he would have plunged into an unparalleled despair, and his mind would have fallen to ruin. I couldn't bear to allow someone with such beautiful resolve to waste away in despair. That's why I bestowed on my most loyal subordinate such a merciful death. It was nothing more than that."
      Past:-
"Is there something that you wish for, Kaname? I would like to extend my gratitude towards you for being my greatest loyalist. So if there is something that you want, just name it."
Within Aizen's mind, this memory arose.
He had asked his confidant Tosen Kaname this question a long time ago.
"By your leave... yes.... there is indeed something. Just one."
      "Oh?"
Interested to know what kind of personal desire this man in front of him sought, Aizen waited curiously to hear those words-
      However-
The words that tumbled out of Tosen's mouth were far from what one might consider a 'reward'.
"My wish is.... A precept against sin."
      "...."
Encouraged by his listener's silence, Tosen pressed on.
"Should there come a time when I change... should there come a time when I begin to accept the world of the Shinigami... rather... should there come a time when this world without evolution begins to provide me with something like peace of mind... At that time, I would like you to erase my existence from this world... leaving behind no fragments."
The words sounded strange, so Aizen asked again, in order to confirm the other party's intention,
"Surely, Kaname... should there ever come a time when you need to halt your progress... the Shinigami lot will forgive you. However, I do not think you will accept that forgiveness, will you?"
"If there is one thing that is absolute, then it is you, Aizen-sama. But... You, who taught me what justice is, and you, who instructed me on how the world ought to operate, are also a part of the world that I detest."
"I see. So the root of the very justice that drives you, is a double-edged sword that can also destroy your justice at the same time."
      Kakyo.
Yes, that was the name of the woman who was Kaname's best friend, recalled Aizen. Tosen continued to speak.
"If I were to accept the world of the Shinigami, then it will be a denial of my own justice. Should such a time ever come, what I will have done, will no longer be justice. It will just be murder."
Clenching his fists in remembrance of a cruel past, Tosen let his next words out with difficulty.
"That would mean... the defilement of Kakyo's death and her way of life. Since I am standing here, already betraying her wishes; going against my own justice would be equivalent to murdering her twice."
"But if she were alive today, would she have forgiven you?"
"...Yes. She would have. That's why, I want you to have mercy and make me disappear from this world before I degenerate into the non-existent goodness that she saw in this world."
      "Mercy... you say?"
"If my justice turns out to be false, then I must never be forgiven! I want you to crush and destroy every last bit of my soul before my heart gets filled with false salvation. That's my one and only wish."
Tosen uttered a wish that was not in accordance with his justice, but according to his feelings.
Aizen, who respected Tosen's resolution, questioned him once again in order to see whether Tosen really grasped the depth and meaning behind his own desire. Anticipating the answer, Aizen asked,
".....If I stand atop the heavens and create a new world.... what will you do then?"
"That new world is a world where someone like me, who is forever trapped by vengeance, must never exist. Therefore, once you stand atop the heavens, Aizen-sama, I must commit suicide for the purpose of complete purification of that world."
"So then... whatever happens... I will inevitably end up losing my only confidant."
"....Forgive me. Please forget what I just said."
Tosen realized that Aizen, too, was trapped by emotions.
Aizen spoke to Tosen, who looked like he repented his choice of words,
"It's fine. Those were words that came out of your true heart."
"It is my immaturity that still makes me unable to cast off the justice that my friend Kakyo sang praises about."
"No, it's not. Knowing one's own weaknesses becomes the foundation for climbing to greater heights."
Aizen looked down at the incomplete Hogyoku held in his hands, and spoke softly; a fearless smile playing upon his lips.
"Sometimes, fear is also necessary for evolution."
And so, Aizen spoke to his close subordinate with absolute firmness. Approaching Tosen, Aizen made a promise to him.
"I swear to you, Kaname. Before you suffer from the forgiveness of the Shinigami, I will make sure to erase all traces of your existence."

Aizen isn't exactly 'Evil' , yes he can be cruel but he has his own morals , you can't really judge him by human standards, (the same can be said for all the other shinigami to be honest). Tosen was the only one Aizen considered somewhat a " friend" , a confidant as he put it , in fact Tosen was the only person Aizen showed his true intention to from the get go. Tosen strong sense of justice couldn't permit him to live, so even if he had survived the fight against soul society and Aizen had won he was planing to take his own life , that's why he asked Aizen to kill him if he began to doubt his justice and Aizen was disheartened when he learned his decision but he also choose to respect his choice and that's why he killed him.

Aizen is really smart as he doesn't underestimate his opponents like when he created Wonderweiss just to seal Ryujin Jakka. But he loses because the hogyoku knows his deepest feeling. He wasn't really evil, because he was lonely. Ginjo and Yhwach wanted revenge so they got something to support their intentions. Meanwhile Aizen really was just looking for someone to defeat him. Aizen definitely enjoys riling people up. And while he detests willful ignorance, he respects unbending resolve such as his own. He could see the path that lay ahead of Tosen for sure. The act of showing mercy fits him as one with the audacity to make such a claim in the first place. One that thinks themselves to have the right to take the life of another and call it mercy. He genuinely believes that what he did was mercy to someone that he believed he understood better than they understood themselves.
In conclusion; Aizen was telling the truth because he believes himself more than anything. Doesn't mean he doesn't know that other people will think it's bullshit and get pissed at him. If anything, he finds the irony at being raged at for telling the truth funny.

Sosuke Aizen is just an intelligent character, who thinks probably not even 10 but over 100 steps ahead before he takes action and says something. And with his zanpakuto he is very almost unbeatable. And I found it much unfortunate to see a character like Kaname and even Gin die in the story, Kaname was a bit hypnotized by Aizen as well that's what I guess, although Gin was never under influence of Aizen and his Kyokasuigestu, this is also explained why. And I much respected Gin, because he wanted to avenge Rangiku.
    Besides that:
I personally think Bleach the story isn't over yet. Aizen is after the timeskip of 10 years or so (when Rukia finally achieved the role as Captain of Squad 13) he is still imprisoned in Muken. And how many imprisoners are there in Muken? What about an eventually return of the Quincies? Ywach did said somethings to Aizen during their battle. Which is also mentioned at the end of the last chapter. What about the son of Orihime and Ichigo, I think it might be interesting where it goes from there. I truly hope that Tite Kubo will continue the story, like what they did with Naruto > Boruto Next Generation. Where we see some of the lieutenants evolve into captains, where we could see the potential of the son of Ichigo, whom I presumme have both Shinigami, Quincy, Hollow and Orihime's power(s).
Besides what If Tite Kubo shows an Arc with Hell. In the beginning of Bleach, Rukia explained a bit about Hell. And we have seen an non canon adaption of Hell through a movie. Which in my opinion was quite ok.
What about other species next to Shinigami's, Hollows and Quincies, we have seen the ones with the Fullbring powers. It might be interesting what the possibilities are.
I personally think Bleach isn't dead yet. We got early this year the announcement that Bleach will return on screen, for its last Arc. And also with the release of the action turn based game Bleach immortal soul, we could potentially see that the franchise will reborn from the shadows. I know that Tite Kubo is currently busy with other manga adaptions, but his Gods work should continue.
I mentioned Boruto before, it's also the same with Dragonball with Dragon Ball Super, and probably yes that the fanbase of Dragon Ball is way bigger than that of Bleach. But I do really hope it's going to be the same with Bleach as well.

Wouldn't make much sense to bring back the anime just to show us the rushed and disappointing ending.
But I'm not sure they will go the same route as Boruto.
No Bleach fan would be up against that. However, the series isn't just as big/popular as the Naruto franchise and doesn't bring much profit, which is why I don't see it lasting as long as Boruto.

Aizen's failure is that he failed to manage the changeable nature of change but he's intent was to help the universe evolve. I think the point is that change is a perspective of self not nature.. I read something a couple of days ago, from another youtube comment. @sameer sharma
is the guy I'm going to quote. He wrote this. I really like it so I'm going to copy paste it here too--
    --
This happened in the past,A conversation between Aizen and Tosēn ( This is from the Fan translation Volume 3)
"Is there something that you wish for, Kaname? I would like to extend my gratitude towards you for being my greatest loyalist. So, if there is something that you want, just name it." Within AIZEN's mind, this memory arose.
He had asked his confidant Kaname TÔSEN this question a long time ago. "By your leave... yes... there is indeed something. Just one." "Oh?" Interested to know what kind of personal desire this man in front of him sought, AIZEN waited curiously to hear those words - However - The words that tumbled out of TÔSEN's mouth were far from what one might consider a 'reward'. "My wish is... A precept against sin." "...” Encouraged by his listener's silence, TÔSEN pressed on. "Should there come a time when I change... should there come a time when I begin to accept the world of the soul reaper... rather... should there come a time when this world without evolution begins to provide me with something like peace of mind... At that time, I would like you to erase my existence from this world... leaving behind no fragments." The words sounded strange, so AIZEN asked again, in order to confirm the other party's intention, "Surely, Kaname... should there ever come a time when you need to halt your progress... the soul reaper lot will forgive you. However, I do not think you will accept that forgiveness, will you?" "If there is one thing that is absolute, then it is you, AIZEN-sama. But... You, who taught me what justice is, and you, who instructed me on how the world ought to operate, are also a part of the world that I detest." "I see. So, the root of the very justice that drives you, is a double - edged sword that can also destroy your justice at the same time." Kakyô.
Yes, that was the name of the woman who was Kaname's best friend, recalled AIZEN. TÔSEN continued to speak. "If I were to accept the world of the soul reaper, then it will be a denial of my own justice. Should such a time ever come, what I will have done, will no longer be justice. It will just be murder." Clenching his fists in remembrance of a cruel past, TÔSEN let his next words out with difficulty. "That would mean... the defilement of Kakyô's death and her way of life. Since I am standing here, already betraying her wishes, going against my own justice would be equivalent to murdering her twice." "But if she were alive today, would she have forgiven you?" "...Yes. She would have. That's why, I want you to have mercy and make me disappear from this world before I degenerate into the non - existent goodness that she saw in this world." "Mercy... you say?" "If my justice turns out to be false, then I must never be forgiven! I want you to crush and destroy every last bit of my soul before my heart gets filled with false salvation. That's my one and only wish." TÔSEN uttered a wish that was not in accordance with his justice, but according to his feelings. AIZEN, who respected TÔSEN's resolution, questioned him once again in order to see whether TÔSEN really grasped the depth and meaning behind his own desire. Anticipating the answer, AIZEN asked, "...If I stand atop the heavens and create a new world... what will you do then?" "That new world is a world where someone like me, who is forever trapped by vengeance, must never exist. Therefore, once you stand atop the heavens, AIZEN-sama, I must commit suicide for the purpose of complete purification of that world." "So, then... whatever happens... I will inevitably end up losing my only confidant." "...Forgive me. Please forget what I just said."
TÔSEN realized that AIZEN, too, was trapped by emotions. AIZEN spoke to TÔSEN, who looked like he repented his choice of words, "It's fine. Those were words that came out of your true heart." "It is my immaturity that still makes me unable to cast off the justice that my friend Kakyô sang praises about." "No, it's not. Knowing one's own weaknesses becomes the foundation for climbing to greater heights." AIZEN looked down at the incomplete hôgyoku held in his hands, and spoke softly, a fearless smile playing upon his lips. "Sometimes, fear is also necessary for evolution." And so, AIZEN spoke to his close subordinate with absolute firmness. Approaching TÔSEN, AIZEN made a promise to him. "I swear to you, Kaname. Before you suffer from the forgiveness of the soul reaper, I will make sure to erase all traces of your existence."

I would say aizen actually did do out of mercy. Aizen never really killed his own teammates for the sake of being evil, it was usually to spare them from greater loss or cause they were directly in his way like Gin, but I dont think aizen would of taken the time to kill a already near death tousen if he didnt have a reason. I'd like to think aizen actually respected tousen for being rigid in his justice and didnt want him to have regrets for the path he chose, so he ended him before those feelings could start.

Umm...makes me wonder (I forgot which Bleach video I watch) mention that whoever soul that has a piece or an influence from Soul King can easily attracts Hollows.Shuuhei almost getting eaten (twice,I think) by a hollow during a flashback scene of Kensei and also during his fight with Tres Beastias in Fake Karakura Arc.Does that mean Shuuhei has a piece of the soul of Soul King too?.I know this is a bit off from the main discussion of this video...but I was curious....

Honestly this anime needs a reboot especially in manga.
There's one thing that's always bothering me. Tite Kubo said that if a shinigami dies their zanpakuto will disappear with them BUT there's this Family Zanpakuto from Shunsui family and Kaname's Zanpakuto that he stole from his friend.
Did tite kubo just forget it or something? because this plot kinda ruins the anime for me.

First of all Aizen is a bonafide gangsta. Just lying for no reason is beneath a man like that. This guy has accumulated so much power he has no further need for such basic and senseless behavior. At this point in his incarceration he has no reason to lie. Everything he says is 100% exactly how he feels and reflects his philosophy. He is no longer concerned with how other people perceive him anymore and his own imprisonment is sort of like a bad joke for someone of his power lvl

Tousen was really never of any use to aizen anyways, he was a threat. As aizen can't use his zanpaktou on him cuz Tousen can't see. That's why Aizen gained his trust and fooled everyone.
    Tousen was a disposable asset.
