That's a Sire V7 active 4-string J-style bass with fresh roundwounds, both pickups wide open, EQ flat, recorded direct through a 1073-style preamp, with an LA2A-style compressor on it doing 7-10dB of gain reduction. That tone is really in how you play, though. You have to have the right touch to dig intro the strings enough to get them to rattle off the frets just a tiny bit, like you would when slapping. That's how you get the brightness and sizzle to come through. The opto comp helps preserve the transients as well while keeping the volume present and consistent. Hope that helps!
