Yeah. It's like fashion and cool looking cars. Theoretically a plain white shirt and an old used car will do the same thing but it just feels good to have something just for your taste.
I think it's also that most people just don't know what they're missing. If they have never seen a custom keyboard before or heard the way it sounds, they wouldn't know that there was something better than the standard keyboard that comes with their computer. It was actually only today that I learned that custom keyboards are a thing, because yt reccomended that airup review and I wanted to check out some of hippyo's other videos, but now that I've seen how pretty keyboards can look and how satisfying they can sound, I'm interested in buying a nicer keyboard and potentially customizing it if I ever have the opportunity to. Actually for ergonomic boards (boards for typists) you want to reduce overall travel distance, thus meaning a shorter bottom out is preferable. The whole "When typing you shouldn't be bottoming out thing" is to do with trying to keep your travel distances low. Personally, I've never managed it simply because it feel like I have to carry a lot of tension through my fingers to do it, and that straight up feels bad. Kailh Choc switches have become exceedingly popular with typists for the precist reason mechanical keyboard hobbyists who like things like heavy tactiles hate them

Those keyboards look so pretty, but from a functional perspective I hate how most of them lack keys. I like having the numpad, macro keys, and media keys for all sorts of useful binds.
I'm an FPS gamer, I can play just the same on my old Corsair K100 w/MX Browns as I do on my $600 Custom w/Holy Pandas. Frankly all that lube slows down the keys .It's all in the Mouse for input in addition to your PC and Monitor.
It's amazing sometimes how different people's tastes and priorities are. Like, the OEM / Cherry profile cylindrical keycaps would bug me, and it would never even occur to me to choose switches based on their color. It seems like a great board for its intended user, but someone else would need a totally different design.
I use a full-size Magic Keyboard (with numeric keys). I've always preferred laptop keyboards over PC keyboards due to their low profile and low key travel. It's easier on my wrists and feel effortless to type on. This Apple board has a bunch of extra keys (F13 to F19) that you can map to anything. If there were a lower-profile full size keyboard, I'd go for it. I like ultra low profile keys with short key travel slim keys.
This video better helped me understand the difference in a budget prebuilt and your own build, wish I spent my money on my own keyboard. Even though I spilt sand in my keyboard (please, don’t ask)
I like how I'm watching this channel whenever I'm trying to figure out how to take an old broken laptop I got for free and take the keyboard out of it cuz I can't buy my own for my PC
While I am ALL about custom KB with high utility, I am definitely not interested in paying several hundred, much less thousands, of dollars on one... Part of the reason I WANT a custom KB is so that I have extra buttons and options that are just NOT available on most regular keyboards... and so very many of them suck sphincter. But that is just me... I have very specific ideas for what makes a good KB and having been around since typewriters were fully mechanical and shoved a metal arm through a ribbon of ink onto a piece of real paper.... Fascinating video nonetheless!
When soldering, a good fume extractor will help with it bothering your nose. If you can smell the soldering, you are probably inhaling toxic flux fumes!
Would you consider doing a review of a Miya Pro board sometime in the future? especially on of the ones that use Varmilo's ec v2 switches. I've looked around but i'd like to see a more in depth review and what you can do modding wise
I will never forget a review on a razer board I saw this year where the reviewer mentioned the price "...a whopping 160$"....Yea if only...And i didn't even go overboard on my (in progress entry-level build)
I can't do Cherry MX browns anymore! There has to be a better switch or switches out there, and I know there is! But then, Betty corrupted my ears with the Boba U4 switches....THEY WERE SILENT!!! I had to have them!
It’s the fact he whips out my exact keyboard, used to have a k552w but it just broke somehow, like stoped working entirely. So I’ve been using my pc’s stock keyboard for a while. I’m thinking of dropping some money on a custom keyboard but it may not happen for a while since Christmas is coming up, spending money on people. And I’m going to be dropping a ton of money on stuff for my set up, everything but a keyboard. Because they cost a ton of money, like 400, 500 dollars, and I only got 600 bucks and that’s going towards Christmas presents and my setup. So idk if I should just get a razer huntsman mini or wait for a custom keyboard, or maybe even mod the huntsman mini.
I built my first keyboard on a 60% from GMMK. True, I didn't have to solder or anything. But I did tear it apart and did some mods I learned from you and others. I love it. Almost immediately I bought a GMMK Pro for work and use the 60% as a backpack only keyboard I can take everywhere with me easily. Now I have another keyboard (NK87 2nd Edition) in bound with some Mute Box Jades and Ember Cream keycaps, and I am planning on cracking my Holy Pandas and lubing them up to make them sound even better on my Pro. This has only been the span of a few months, and I am already hooked enough to want to start breaking out to soldering my own board and really customizing as much as I can. Its crazy once you see whats out there, you start relatively small and work up and the bug gets you. There is just something so satisfying with being able to say "This keyboard is mine, I picked out everything and assembled it myself. PS: PREPARE TO PART WITH YOUR MONEY! THIS IS NOT A JOKE! But seriously, part with the money and build yourself the keyboard you want to use.
hey @Hipyo Tech, I think it would an awesome idea of a video to do a video on keyboards that help those with hand disabilities. I have a hooked middle finger and destroy my keycaps (wasd), having to get metal caps now.
I don't know if it's just me but budget keebs are starting to sound better than expensive ones? Like we don't need pricy switches anymore with switches like Kang Whites and we dont need expensive kits anymore with the literally endless catalogue of fantastic budgets - don't even get me started on keycaps where the highest grad GMK cant even last as long as a $30 set off of amazon?
Custom keyboards are all about satisfaction of the senses. Most custom keyboards lack the programable functions as those features are locked behind the board and software. I have a razor huntsman elite and replaced the switches and keycaps. Perfectly happy with it and about 500$ total. I really want to do a full custom but i adore razors macro software.
That's actually interesting it must be challenging to replace switches in a board like that. I'd love to hear about the specs because damn 500$ is a lot.
Hes got the most basic keycaps I've seen in an expensive keyboard build and they are worth $550. They are literally just black and white wtf this hobby is wild.
@@unlink1649you've just described what worth is. What someone is willing to pay. Really, nothing is "worth" anything. Theres no reason gold should cost thousands of dollars per pound, It's all just what people are willing to pay. Everything is already arbitrary.

@@malachi_hatessin3573 Ah nice, good luck with your build :)
Those keyboards look so pretty, but from a functional perspective I hate how most of them lack keys. I like having the numpad, macro keys, and media keys for all sorts of useful binds.
I've only spent like 100-120 usd on building a kb and i'm already satisfied
Stay away from keyboard content then or you won't be satisfied any longer. The urge to build another keyboard eventually comes.
im already into keebs but if i wasnt the explanation of why someone would want a custom would have me just as confused as before lmao
Did not expect to see Albralelie in a Hipyo video
"Its time for me to stop teasing you and just pull this thing out" - HipyoTech
I'm an FPS gamer, I can play just the same on my old Corsair K100 w/MX Browns as I do on my $600 Custom w/Holy Pandas. Frankly all that lube slows down the keys .It's all in the Mouse for input in addition to your PC and Monitor.
very true! i feel very slow on lubed switches..
ive been using a laptop membrane keyboard this whole time and im getting my own mechanical keyboard in 1 week. already ordered it just gotta wait.
Congrats on the board! Hope it fits your needs.
Never thought I would see osu in a hippotech vid
It's amazing sometimes how different people's tastes and priorities are. Like, the OEM / Cherry profile cylindrical keycaps would bug me, and it would never even occur to me to choose switches based on their color. It seems like a great board for its intended user, but someone else would need a totally different design.
I love that you considered that he needed short travel switches with faster acuation!
Yay I got a heart
“it’s time for me to stop teasing you and just pull this thing out”
gl on 300k
Sadly I don't plan on having the hobby of custom keyboards but I love these kinds of videos
amazing sound test
That's not what a sandwich mount is
I just built my first keyboard today! It was a kprepublic BM80rgb, with durok stabs, and cherry mx brown rgb switches.
@@BFF.Studios who cares? dude is happy so stfu
Bro I spent 1700 on my pc and this dude is out here spending 2 bands on something he could snap in a fit of rage
when i see the vid
*Why is everyone building custom keyboards?*
me: because of you hipyo
god DANG that keyboard looks SOO NICE
This looks sick :)
you should do more stuff like this
The way I froze when the Cyberpower keyboard popped up because I am guilty
Would love to see a really cool Full Sized Keyboard!
So few super high end ones of these exist lol. There’s the Odin, the Balance, the Wind.X,
Just so few of them exist to think of off the top of my head and no one wants to build them
Now this keyboard has some OOMPH to it.
When soldering, a good fume extractor will help with it bothering your nose. If you can smell the soldering, you are probably inhaling toxic flux fumes!
He used the exact same keyboard I have as an example of a non custom one out of all of the keyboards out there
I wish more keycaps had the second fonts
I get jerryrigeverything vibes from your videos and I'm loving it!
Would you consider doing a review of a Miya Pro board sometime in the future? especially on of the ones that use Varmilo's ec v2 switches. I've looked around but i'd like to see a more in depth review and what you can do modding wise
Oooh that keyboard looks 🔥 🤩
Dude I love that gold NK65
I will never forget a review on a razer board I saw this year where the reviewer mentioned the price "...a whopping 160$"....Yea if only...And i didn't even go overboard on my (in progress entry-level build)
I can't do Cherry MX browns anymore! There has to be a better switch or switches out there, and I know there is! But then, Betty corrupted my ears with the Boba U4 switches....THEY WERE SILENT!!! I had to have them!
i love my bobas the sound makes me feel like im typing on marshmallows
Just once, you should say, "This part is made out of aluminium and aluminum," just to see the reaction from the audience.
U built albralelie a keyboard that’s awesome man I watch him a lot he’s nuts
These vids are amazing
I have a hooked middle finger and destroy my keycaps (wasd), having to get metal caps now.
seconded! would love to see some disability friendly boards that aren't just the regular split/ergo layouts
Dream Setup Build ? Of Course when you moved ! XD Keep the good work up !
I'd love to hear about the specs because damn 500$ is a lot.
keyboard looking snassy. might need to get one...
If caustic does commissions I might send my 65 in when it finally gets here.
Hes got the most basic keycaps I've seen in an expensive keyboard build and they are worth $550. They are literally just black and white wtf this hobby is wild.
worth 550 is a stretch.... more like they cost 550
they are not worth this. it's just what people pay for them. prices for limited edition caps are completely arbitrary. like for art.
@@unlink1649you've just described what worth is. What someone is willing to pay. Really, nothing is "worth" anything. Theres no reason gold should cost thousands of dollars per pound, It's all just what people are willing to pay. Everything is already arbitrary.
It doesn't sound as good as I was expecting a 2k keyboard to sound. Lol I really like the custom design, though.
good work on it but the keyboard he has uses gateron optical switches meaning he has pretty much no delay but noice build
one of the best cutsom keyboard that i ever seen and heared holy hippyo you are a master (sorry for grammar wrongs)
Howdy Hey! Didnt we already see this video/live stream?
ngl it looks shite for the price but to each his own. I am sure it feels great to type on tho
