I have ran into a few elitists but for the most part just ignore those people and you will find a lot of people that are actually extremely nice and willing to help out people getting into the hobby.
If I am being honest the elitist people are into the hobby for a different reason. They want to feel special, where as people who are genuinely into the hobby are typically more than happy to help people who are just starting out.

I think it's also that most people just don't know what they're missing. If they have never seen a custom keyboard before or heard the way it sounds, they wouldn't know that there was something better than the standard keyboard that comes with their computer. It was actually only today that I learned that custom keyboards are a thing, because yt reccomended that airup review and I wanted to check out some of hippyo's other videos, but now that I've seen how pretty keyboards can look and how satisfying they can sound, I'm interested in buying a nicer keyboard and potentially customizing it if I ever have the opportunity to. I think if everyone had the opportunity to actually try out a nice custom keyboard right next to a standard one, then a lot more people would be interested in the hobby, or at least want to spend the money to get a nicer keyboard.

    • @orchdork775
      @orchdork775 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@cheeseballs9579 Not many people see the inside of your home, but I imagine that you still want it to look nice, because you're the one who is going to live there and see it every day. Similarly, not many people are going to see the keyboard you use (aside from coworkers if you bring it to work, or people who come to your house,) but that's not the point. Expressing yourself isn't for other people; it's for you, because when you have something unique that you picked out/customized according to your own taste, then you are the one who benefits by getting to use something you really enjoy. Every time you see or use that object, it brightens your day and you feel a wave of happiness and fulfillment wash over you, which is worth a lot if you don't have many things in your life that bring you joy.

Actually for ergonomic boards (boards for typists) you want to reduce overall travel distance, thus meaning a shorter bottom out is preferable. The whole "When typing you shouldn't be bottoming out thing" is to do with trying to keep your travel distances low. Personally, I've never managed it simply because it feel like I have to carry a lot of tension through my fingers to do it, and that straight up feels bad. Kailh Choc switches have become exceedingly popular with typists for the precist reason mechanical keyboard hobbyists who like things like heavy tactiles hate them

Bruhh... This video makes me super sad. Allow me to explain...
Some years ago, I spent my fair share of time getting more than passively acquainted with the process of anodizing aluminum via the burgeoning renaissance of the modern small-run boutique yoyo scene, where precision machining to ungodly tight-spec'd tolerances, smooth beadblast finishing, and really cool dye patterns sealed by anodizing would no longer be considered next-generation accoutrements reserved for the likes prototypes and custom commissions, and instead rose to mainstay staples of today's practically booming industry. All this is thanks to the advent of metal as a sustainable build material, where above all else, aircraft-grade aluminum quickly overtook polycarbonate and acetal plastics as the builder's premier material of choice.
Now, all of my personal experience screams there is no way even a custom commissioned anodizing job should be ANYWHERE EVEN CLOSE to what they charged you for this! I'm talking like even the best boutique finishing house would have comfortably offered you better results and savings *well north of* $1,000! I know that yoyos are a lot smaller than a keyboard, but that really doesn't functionally change anything of the anodizing process, and because I'm fairly confident that the alloy used for this case is not some impossible to work with freak of nature, but instead one that I am quite familiar with that takes very well to anodizing, even chemical or mechanical stripping of a previously finished piece would be easy work for a decently abled shop.
These would be the ONLY reasons I could even fathom justifying such an incredible price hike. I mean, I'm sure it looks and feels great in person, and I'm truly and honestly glad dude looked really stoked on his new piece, but... Damn dude... I'm pretty sure it's not, but these kinds of practices make it look like this company is just lining its pockets on work that is at best just a step or two above basic. With margins like this, just a few commission jobs here and there should be plenty of revenue to kick back and coast on a while...
Now look, I know it might seem silly to be saying this *now,* but I really didn't set out to post this comment with the aim of talking down on anyone's business practices. I just hate to see anyone taken off for any amount of their hard-earned money, and I have endless sympathy for the consumer who finds themself in such a position. Hopefully I'm just missing something glaringly obvious here, but even if I am, it still seems just gluttonous to me for them to be charging that kind of coin from an honest consumer who makes a name for himself as a vested pillar of this scene's social sphere. Obviously they know this of you as well, so I really do hope that the company who shares stake in this same community wouldn't be so brazen as to collect *handsomely* and then just take off knowing full well you're hopping right on youtube showing their work and how much you had to pay for it.
    Hoping for the best...

they are not worth this. it's just what people pay for them. prices for limited edition caps are completely arbitrary. like for art.

@@unlink1649you've just described what worth is. What someone is willing to pay. Really, nothing is "worth" anything. Theres no reason gold should cost thousands of dollars per pound, It's all just what people are willing to pay. Everything is already arbitrary.

Only $300-$2000... Plastic is never premium materials, its plastic... The lies we will tell ourselves... This hobby is ruined by the companies greed alone. Nothing will convince me they are not just blatantly ripping people off. Stinks because they sound great, but they can keep the hobby at that cost. At the end of the day its a dang keyboard that will wear out/break over time. Seeing its all rubber gaskets and plastic and foam confirms my biggest fear, this whole keyboard thing is just a giant scam. ALL my friend agree they sound awesome and look cool but once you show the price they laugh and say for a piece of plastic. Tired of greed ruining eveything. 😒 Who can actually afford this nonsense? On top all that we have to wait months/years because they are afraid they will lose money at those insane costs...Get outta here, they are just ripping people off and not willing to take any risk and put it all on the customers?.. Please stop promoting these business that is some super shady business practice! Great videos, just unrealistic concepts for majority of us

2:40 - Tell me about it. That board is junk.....but its got a number pad. So many choices in 60%. Not so much when you want the whole board layout. I got a TKL. But don't use it. I instead use this $10 board I got on Amazon with no brand name on it. Just a picture of a jaguar. It weighs like an ounce and the LEDs in it kinda burn my leg. The font is missing on a bunch of the keys already and it feels like typing on a piece of bread. But it has a full layout. num pad and arrows/home have their own little section away from the other keys. Thats where I live at. Have you seen her?? Has anyone found a full metal full layout custom case that looks as good as these 60% cases?

Reasons (personal) to not get a custom keyboard
    1) don't really like the looks (personally)
    2) chonky as hell
    3) still far more expensive then most keyboards
I personally use a roccat Vulcan amino 121 pro, it's keycaps are thin, it has a brushed aluminum top and the lighting and feels are just to my liking, not to much RGB, not too little, it was expensive but to this day it hold no problem, since I got it I cannot look at other normal keyboards and not see chonk, but custom keyboards? They are ultra chonk to me

For one I enjoy that aggressive sound
    2. I really don't give any care about custom key caps or the keyboards look it's all about how the keyboard preforms for me
Now if the reasons where for performance then sure but no point spending 300 extra dollars for asthetics

  • @JakeMMC

okay there is a lot in this video i completely disagree with, just because you paid a certain price for something doesnt mean you can change the total of what you paid for it to appeal more expensive, 2 gmk absolutely does not hold their value because they shine pretty bad after a certain time of usage, especially if you are a gamer its going to look like you had kfc all over your board, which is why you get pbt, something like crp keycaps because those done shine and they actually are good quality and not for some insane after market price. Switches does not change the sound of "thock" first of all thock is a stupid term, abused and ruined by people who went crazy with PE foam, the term thock is achieved by putting something like SA profile keycaps on your keyboard, or just a topre board, the keyboard that the guy previously owned works just fine, each keyboard has the exact same function, getting a new keyboard is for people who want something luxurious and expensive on their desk, they all do the same thing no matter the look, heft, or price. oh yeah and speed switches/shorter travel switches are not that speedy, its 1mm in terms of difference from a normal stem and a long pole stem so it really wont help you out, I know that Hipyo went over 1 or 2 of these points but i thought id spread the word for some of you that wanted another point of view.
