Within the last 20 years, I have seen the Holi festival be adapted in various parts of Canada and the US. The way its observed is way different. It's called "the color festival" in most North American towns, and most North Americans who observe this ritual have no idea that its even an Indian custom. They just like having fun.

Fun fact for the cast : the color celebration part of the festival is celebrated on two different days by different communities. In Maharashtra ( a state on the western coast ) Holi is celebrated by lighting a small fire and there's a whole ritual around it. And the fifth day ,called RANG PANCHAMI ( rung punch ami ) is the day of the color celebration. And in other states Holi is the day of the color celebration.
Ps . "Rang" means color and Panchami is the fifth day of the lunar cycle.

Bro, Holi is celebrated across the nation in the same way.
And the next day Rangpanchami you were explaining, it's Dhulivandan. Holi is on Pournima (Full moon day)
Panchami comes five days later to Pournima, so does Rangpanchami. The next day of Holi we play with colors is Dhulivandan instead. You can check Kaalnirnay or Mahalaxmi calender.

There are 2 types of colours
1.Powder colours(Gulal or Abir, will leave you pretty easily with just 1 good shower if its the good quality one.)
2.Pakka colours( Those colours don't leave you for 2 days, no matter how many times you shower if you had not taken the proper precautions.)
Ways to protect yourself from pakka colours- Apply thick layer of oil or cream on all parts of your exposed skin; arms, legs, face, neck, hair etc so that the colours don't stick to your skin. That helps a lot.
Expectations are reality and reality is not expected when you are in group of same vibeing freinds .....

when we were young our parents told us to put mustard oil before going out to play, I don't know if it helped or not, it was one of those old homegrown tricks. these days people usually play dry Holi, unless you have a crazy friend who will bring colors that won't come off for a week.
If you want to experience it, come to India !!! Why not all Of you come to India ??? Like Syntel, Jaby, achara, Andrew, Steph, Natasha etc. And enjoy The Holi festival that would be awesome !!

6:07 There is a neat trick that some of my friends use. They apply oil on their faces and arms to prevent the color from sticking too strongly. The thing is, some of the ultra-cheap stuff is indeed that strong, and it doesn't come off that easily. It's kind of bad, but capitalism has degenerated a beautiful festival into such a mess.
I remember washing myself with detergent powder, but all in vain coz the color didn't come off.😭😂

Watching this after coming back from playing holi and showering 3 times, i'm purple, silver and blue. it doesn't come off for atleast 2 days if you play properly and the best part is next day you go to school and everyone is a diff colour like hair is blue, arms orange, face red, legs green, neck yellow and this is j one person. the colours are awesome lmao
The colors do stay, most of us look red after Holi festival. So we prepare by applying thick moisturizers, Vaseline or coconut oil before playing Holi so that most of it comes off after a few showers.

its actually true..we have a whole preparation before stepping out of the house like applying oil so that the colors come of after 1 wash..but if u don't do so...well 5 showers could be possible,even 8.. it's mostly the young boys..teens who play it so roughly here

It depends to me no colour ever stained but some type of colour stain the skin so people put coconut oil or some type of protection on skin before playing holi

Normally it comes off in a single long shower after a couple of soap washes. When I was younger they would use oil paint which takes a week or more to come off.
