    Excellent work, well done!
    And I agree with you regarding the Iberian colours; I think the yellow and orange look great!

    It stated the aircraft as a 737 on the argentinian decal deco page :D

    You made a good popint about Airfix's boxing, but the same applies to Revell, as you have to knw the kits beckground to realise if your buying an old Matchbox kit. Excellent build vid very nice neat work.

    beautiful, beautiful model. very elegant looking. I've thought the same thing, the old Airfix kits should have the old painted art work on the box, and the new kits the CGI. I've bought kits thinking they were new tooled :/ oh well. Also glad to see you got such great results with the decals, I've heard of some modelers having troubles with them, your looks great :)

    Thanks :) But I wish there was a whole collection on airliners in 1/144th scale from all the airlines in the world, if that hasn´t been done yet...

    Good looking model airliner. I think the cockpit window area need some more work.

    There is no new 727 due from Airfix, just this one re released in Air Canada.
    I'm surprise you had to use a knife to open the decals. There is a window punch in the kit..

    I would like to see the Aerolineas Argentina 727-200 done. Both look good though.

    • @Alantheleopard
      @Alantheleopard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, both look good, but I never had enough space at home (nor interest) so as to repeat the same aircraft in the same scale, even if in different colors.

    Yes, decals were alright. I remember, talking at least on Airfix kits, that at least those decals for their 1/72nd Bristol Beaufighter were deplorable. I hope that that ended up of been just an isolated experiment...

    Regarding the window dilemma: Before gluing the fuselage halves together, cover the windows from the inside with a strip of thin plastic (maybe .020) either left clear or painted black. Then apply the decals and cut out the window openings. Lastly, put a drop of Crystal Clear to fill the window openings. Works for me.

    I think you did a beautiful job on the finish, especially on the fuselage. Now if you did the rear door down, and wheels up, you could have put a man in a white shirt and tie, with a parachute, on it...

    I haven't actually as yet built an airliner myself, but I have three kits, including a 737, a 747 & an early Caravelle. The latter will be built as a Swedish military transport plane though, and not as an airliner.. :) You ended up with another beautiful model, and I would have gone for the same livery option, and for the same reason! It was nice to see the Bf 109 next to it as well, for size comparison.. :) Finally, I agree about Airfix's mix of boxes, they should state new kit or old, I think!

  • @eduardovillanueva9255
    @eduardovillanueva9255 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have that same kit also. I bought it a few months ago bit I haven't had yet the courage to work on it plus I am still naive on the material needed. I may not use any of those two decal options and instead paint it with a Mexicana livery with solid purple tail from the 90's.

      +sid panesar I have another (and rarer) airliner in 1/144th scale to build: Revell´s Tupovlev Tu-144 (the "Concordoff", as some called it) I´ve been browsing the instructions and it seems a bit tough for me to build, and besides, right now I am concentrating on bringing old kits from my childhood back to life by restoring them. Thanks for your comment!

    It is good to deviate from military aviation from time to time and pay some attention to the civil world, I think. In fact, and as I think that I said some time before, I wish that any of these important kit brands that we often deal with opened a section on airliners in 1/72nd scale (large as even a B737 must be), or else civilian light aircraft in 1/72nd AND 1/48th scale. I have a Cessna 172, a SA-365 Dauphin 2 and Willey Post´s Lockheed Vega in 1/48th scale, but I wish I had some others too.

    To what you were saying about airfix at the start if the vid: IKR (i know right) because I'm building to 727-200 airfix(at the time of that i post this comment) In both the Air Canada and Alitalia liveries

    I'll vouch for using Krystal Kleer for the windows. An alternative is to fill the windows with putty, then overlay them with window decals from MicroScale.

    I wonder what that "1982" means. Airfix introduced the 727 in 1965 (yes, fifty-three years ago!), and as far as I know moulds were not re-vamped ever since. Maybe it was turned into one of those nasty "Snap´n´glue" toys as they did with the 707. I see they eliminatd the window glazing... Disgusting, Airfix!

    • @Alantheleopard
      @Alantheleopard  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In addition, Airfix has always been rather chaotic ever since they introduced these new red boxes, because they randomly mix inside re-edited vintage kits with new kits, and they don´t even bother to label the box as "re-edited vintage kit" or something. It´s like those Kinder chocolate eggs: not until you open it will you know what´s inside... In this aspect are to me Airfix and Italeri the untidiest and most chaotic kit brands.

    • @javiergilvidal1558
      @javiergilvidal1558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, you really can´t expect Airfix to put a big notice on the boxes of their older kits blaring "WARNING! Big old Pig of a Kit Inside", can you? That would be disastrous marketing! I read this is your first airliner kit from them, and you didn´t do that bad after all. From now on, you are well advised to know Airfix made no new "Skyking" (that´s what they used to call their 1:144 range) since the mid ´70´s, so you will be aware of the fact that anything you buy from that range comes from moulds that are between fifty-seven and forty-something years old. In general, if you´re going to buy any Airfix kit, use the plentiful information available on the web to get notice of its true age. For me, at 58, age of a kit is not a put-off; I buy mostly for the nostalgia factor, and if I really like the model I am prepared to put in the extra work. But I understand that a young(er) person may find kit age off-putting, so scouring the web before buying is a good practice to avoid disappointment.

    Very impressive kit. I have a model railway layout and I'm going to build an airport on it, but first I'm building a load of airplanes. I built my first Airfix kit a few days ago, and I'm pretty sure this kit will be my next one. If you have any interest in railways it'd be great if you could check out my channel, I upload videos every week.

      A railway diorama including kits in 1/144th scale must be BIG indeed! :)

    • @AnthonyRailwayBVideos
      @AnthonyRailwayBVideos 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is, which is why it will be really quite a while before the plans will become reality, and it will cost a lot. At the moment I'll be working on my railway station (which will hopefully turn out as grand as planned) while gradually building a collection of planes before I get the area a for an airport set up. I feel I really should get a sense of size and take my time, or the plans for an airport will finish me before I finish it!

    Unfortunately, I don´t think that Airfix will stop cheating on us in that aspect about box art-vs-kit age... Better make sure first by browsing the internet, before regretting having bought a kit that was not as we expected when it comes to quality and age...
