Jon Gross.
Hello Jon, nice video, maybe many Chileans believe that Chile is a bad country because they have never left their borders, I have traveled to several places and as you say, when you come back, you realize how bad we are not. we must continue working to make our country even better, among those who have been all our lives here and all who come, like you, to make this country, a better place to live ...
people have differing opinions on what their experience in Chile is. You’re not trying to teach Chilean history in your videos. You’re trying to present what it’s like for you to live in Chile, and What your experiences living in a foreign country are to you more or less. I like your videos. Me and my wife plan to retire to Chile and this is a great way to show her what Chile is like in more than just tourism videos. Chile is a wonderful country and people in Chile should see that like the US people wanna go live there because it’s better or there is more opportunity for growth there. Anyway. Love your videos. Remember this is the internet you’re always gonna be offending someone no matter what you do. And as your audience is growing it’s gonna happen from time to time. Keep up the good work.
True story! I never could be a historian of Chilean history nor would I ever want to do that but I would like to give just a little background about Chile so that people who want to visit can have a little background at least! Thanks so much for the motivation and I really hope you get to move here someday! True, true about the internet offending someone which is why Elise hates being in the videos :)
Nice haircut! That’s one of the reasons I love Chile! The variety of landscapes, weather is so captivating to me. I’ve never been up north but I want to! And yes it is not a Third world country
John. I am a chilean born Canadian. I lived there until I was roughly 17 then moved here. But, I have lived here in Canada for over 30 years. I never thought I was going to hear someone else saying something that came to my mind once. Chile is like the Hunger games and Santiago is like the Capitol. And it is the Capitol literally! The regions were enumerated like the story. As a matter of fact I am sure the author took Pinochet’s Chile as an example to write her story. Each region provides the Capitol with what it needs to live the way they do, arrogantly disregarding the efforts and the difficulties of the people who are not from there and slave their life away to provide for their life style in the Capitol. Pinochet as the obvious dictator who eternalized himself in power using the past as a fear propaganda. Not that I agree with that concept but whatever. Yes, very similar.
! Cariños desde Concepción 🙌
Hello Jon, thanks for this video. It’s awesome! As we mentioned before, I’m from Chile but my wife is Canadian. We are planning to move there in the next few months. And we want to say that you’re right, it isn’t a third world country. My wife is originally from a little island below India and we feel that to call chile a third world country is to have a lack of understanding. Thanks again for the video!
In Chile you will never be bored, you will only see beauty when you visit it, the infrastructure is first class, especially anti-seismic and much more.
I loved how you compared the Hunger Games vs Chile... It's always good to have another point of view of the place where we live (specially coming from someone whose lives and works on here, being a foreign... Anyways, I feel like John's growing roots here every single day)... Regards and have a great time!
Jon Gross that's great... I think that when you wake up every single day waiting for a new experience, new learning and sharing with the others, life is more enjoyable... I'll be expecting for your new adventures. Have a nice day man!
Chile is Awesome, I'm hoping to go back to my country in the near future. I live in the Dom Rep now and I keep finding that Chile is calling me back. Lots of opportunities and very well organized ( compared to other countries of course ) Thanks for Sharing Jon. One quick note though, about cars. I believe that the greatest countries are the ones were people do not need cars because public transportation and other options are GOOD. I am going crazy here in DR due to traffic and seriously considering selling my car and take Uber. its Crazy!! Anyway , thanks as alaways for the videos and helping me keep in touch with my roots. Regards.
This is a good video. Some people believe that South America is still Stonehenge but let me tell something, I've lived in. Argentina and things don't get any better. So I'm glad you highlighted that.
Hello Jon, good morning buddy ! You do not have to apologize for anything, and in fact I have to apologize for every negative comment you received from your last video, I really understood why of your last video, unfortunately for some people the past hurts , but like it or not its part of our history and make us what we are right now . You know I know a lot of people here in the states that want to move to Chile , even myself , my family . I really don't like it when somebody mention Chile as a third world country , and its just because they don't know the country and how well the economy is and his infrastructure is , I have seen many ,many videos about Chile's economy and I'm so happy about and I feel proud it , the only thing that I don't like is how the insecurity because crime is growing , but is like any other country ,I have been fortunate to travel to other countries ,so I know what I'm talking about , a lot of my family is moving back to Chile and its just because Chile 's economy and no matter its a safe country to live in right now .The reason that I love your videos the most is because you show that we are not a third wold country as some people imagine ,we can compete with any other country .Thank you buddy keep up with your great work and for now CHAOOOO PESCAOOO !
What a kind comment as always Christian! Thank you so much for saying that and I can completely understand why people would want to live here! Life is so good here and we feel so blessed to be a part of this awesome country. I really hope to meet you in person one day and thank you again for such a nice comment!
When I think of infrastructure I think of roads and bridges and other things like power distribution, water and sewer and natural gas service.as well as housing availability and the list goes on. You could make a lot of videos under the heading of infrastructure so keep up the good work. I do appreciate what you do.
No matter what you say, someone will be offender. So, don't bother being worried about what people think. I love your videos and congratulations for showing my country just as it is.
Think once you obtain the basic needs there is nothing stoping you from living the life you and your loved ones deserve, home is where the heart is, your heart's in Chile, here is your home, fortunate to see our country in a three dimensional way and it will come as a surprice to some people that you see us as a first world country. Like the photo at finger sparkle, a picture is worth a thousand words.
You have nothing to apologize for, Jon. You handled the last topic very carefully, and it was totally appropriate. I also enjoyed reading many of the more civil discussions about it because they were quite informative, in my opinion. In fact, I think that now you should talk about Pinochet. Just kidding!!! I liked your comparison to the Hunger Games. When I try to apply it here, I always view the United States as the evil capital city that tries to control everyone else. Hah! Chile may not have some of the comforts of the U.S. but that doesn't make it a difficult place to live. It seems to have a great balance, actually. We have too many comforts in the U.S. in my opinion, and it affects us in bad ways. You can indeed have too much of a good thing.
Great comment and nooooooo to every mentioning the name "Pinochet" ever. again. I agree that the US has so many comforts and that it's nice to be in Chile where you can clearly see that these things we want aren't necessary!
*Charqui* viene de *_Jerky_* (meat) que es carne seca. Wena! Thanks!
I'm sure these kinds of videos will get some arguments but as long as they're healthy and civil discussions, it's good. When you do these kinds of videos where you might predict some arguments, just make sure to encourage everyone to discuss the topics in a healthy way. Also, I heard from somewhere that "1st world countries" were the USA and all its allies, "2nd world countries" were USSR and all its allies, and "3rd world countries" were everyone else. They were Cold War terms that may have had reputations attached to them
Hello I am rediscovering Chile through your eyes, wishing i could visit all those lovely places soon, i have to admit that when I go back and I see The Cordillera, something happens inside me, it is a feeling that only the Chileans who live far away can understand....it is a spiritual experience.....wondering if You are getting to know artists from Chile, Pablo Neruda great poet and the great Violeta Parra, She was the most complete artist ... wrote one of the most beautiful songs ever written Thanks to life....unfortunately she is more appreciated now than when she was alive.....there is a doc called Violeta went to heaven.....I recommend it... Chao
Very Nice Video, congratulations, looking forward to move to CHILE, I was in 93, but my family wants me to retire in Santiago, also La Serena is Nice too!!!!!
Through our History, we faced huge earthquakes and with every one of them, we had a huge struggle but we learned with blood, sweat, and tears, how to build structures that don't collapse before, during and after a Massive earthquake. Other countries in the region are not beaten like us by Earthquakes, maybe they are beaten enough to do something about it but they forget more easily, I look at the building in Lima Peru and is terrific know that hundreds or even thousands of People will die when the awaited Earthquake arrive. Our problem with the infrastructure is the slow construction of it, we have to create more to avoid problems in the future because there is a clear deficit in the infrastructure in our country, and is not in their quality is in the quantity.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if heated sometimes. Chile is a well developed country and it has to do with its history wether good or bad. History is what makes the present and will guide the future. Once parks have paved roads, traffic will increase and destroy the beauty, not to mention expensive to maintain and who will pay for it? In USA the national parks are beautiful but very expensive for many. You are such a nice guy with good intentions and that is the main reason I follow you.
Jon..you are right in the money about Chile, I have lived in more than a couples countries in America. .actually I'm living in Fl, U.S.A. and the roads are a priority to grow up as a country and move goods, and stable as political goes numero uno.... que lindo mi pais jon.
Great video, Jon! I didn't feel like I was in a "third world" country in Ecuador, either. I liked World Wide Wong's definition of what is 1st, 2nd and 3rd world. Makes sense. And, being the word Nazi that I am, I have to point out that it's infRastructure, with 3 "R's". That is all. 😃
If you think that a first world country is a perfect country, then no country is first world. If you think that Chile is not a first world country because is not perfect, then you have a conceptual problem. Everything that Chile have is at first world country standard, for example: health, education, roads, airports, defense, income, law and order, urbanization, clean water, life expectancy, low infant mortality rates, strong currency, honest police, good credit rating, very high human developing classification, etc. Even the problems that Chile have are first world country problems. What people in Chile does not see is that first world countries do have issues to solve too. Like poverty, migrants, low pensions, drugs, crime, corruption, shortages of services, pollution, inequalities, obesity, homeless, etc. Chile is already considered a developed country by most international entities like the World Bank, UN, OECD, FMI, etc. Chile was a couple of years ago taken out of the list of countries receptors of help. But what really tells you the true history is the fact that like all the developed countries, the amount of "remesas" sent by people from Chile is 8 times as high as the amount of "remesas" received by the people living in Chile.
I mean we're not sweden but we're not haiti either... We're doing pretty well, defenitly we are in the right way. And in our history we never experience something like this, were so much people wants to live in here, so our migration system get pretty short of resources because the laws and process área pretty old, but it's supouse that the goverment is working in it.
HI! Can you name that video in which you talked about Chile as a first world country? Tried to find it but I guess the name of the video doesn't match the subject. Thanks

hi jon we saw you yesterday (we appear on your video at 6:50 (the four girls on the bench) xD) but we didnt know if we should say hi to you or not 'cause you were busy haha we love your videos (:
Saludos! Y muy buen video! Hello Jon! The truth is that Chile has very good indicators in terms of welfare and development, such as the index of human development, IDH by its acronym in Spanish, being "very high" and leader in the region, which demonstrates more reliable the welfare of the inhabitants in terms of access to education, health, potable water, electricity, sewage, etc. There are specialists who even talk about Chile not clashing as a member of the European Union, surpassing in certain indicators countries like Portugal, Greece or certain countries of Eastern Europe. Communications and transport are not bad at all either, and in a very stable way. Poverty has declined significantly in recent decades, we have an economic freedom like no other with dozens of free trade agreements. Regards! And very good video!
Maybe I am totally wrong, but the terms 1st, 2nd or 3rd world countries is not referring an economic level, how rich or how poor the country is. That term is referring to the counties that were not aligned with the US or the USSR. These counties were the "Paises no alienados" or "third world counties". During the "Cold War" countries aligned to with the US were the "1st world" the ones aligned with the USSR the "2nd world" and the rest were called the "3rd world". Please correct me if I am mistaken.
I prefer that roads for National Parks, you are a part of the nature and don't destroy the environment. You have 2 types of technologies to build, the Asian version and the Chilean way
even tough I agree with you on many of your opinions in the video, i'm not totally convinced chile is a first world country, we are surely going in that direction, but the critical bad distribution of wealth is what keeps us from achieving better standars of living for a wide porcentage of the people. and together with that our dependency on raw materials makes our incomes very unstable. once the state works on creating a more sustainable way of getting money, like working on science, i guess there we could see chile as a developed country
That's why I didn't publish my other video about Chile being a first world country. We are close to being first world but have a bit to go yet. It's just the feeling I get really! Saludos!
The buildings structurally are some of the best in the world with earthquakes as large as an 8.2 (some say 8.8) with little damage, not even Japan can claim that, all thanks to strict codes. The only problem is if you live in a very old adobe building which in many parts of Chile are sometimes hard to find. In Santiago there are only a few left.
You are too nice Jon, no need to apologise, some people have a chip on their shoulder and will feel offended about anything. You're entitled to your own opinion. No one has the right to criticise you. The one with no sin, cast the 1st stone, right? About the Panamericana, I was in Chiloé once and was told that the highway ends at the end of the island. Went there and the paved road disappeared into the ocean. Haven't check if it's true...
haha! great comment and so true! I've been to Chiloé and it's a different road. the Panamerica does indeed stop in Puerto Montt. Why they didn't continue a little further I have no idea!
It depend. If you compare Linares Infraestructure with USA Infraestructure the results are not good but if you compare with Santiago the results are different.
I'm planning acutely to seek asyulm in Chile do u think it's good place to be in? And start new life in Chile even though I can't spake Spanish that good Spanish is close to Arabic language so maybe it's easy to learn it... I have no other option rather than Chile to be safe away from the government.. I'm from Saudi Arabia. Thanks. Note: I will come by tourist visa to Chile.
Chile is gonna be a developed nation the day we learn to respect our fellow men while driving , the amount of houses with graffiti on their walls be reduced drastically , the chavs and their disgusting culture start to step back ,a deep respect is shown towards the elderly people ,we have a selective immigration policy to be applied and so on... (We can't have a beautiful forest full of sparrows ,nightingales ,owls, and partridges for decades and all of a sudden introduce a huge number of woodpeckers...The last ones unless limited in number are gonna destroy all the branches and the other birds will suffer the consecuences of a lack of planification...)
*Jon Gross, U R grosso! (cool) Thnks a lot for considering my country not-a 3rd world belongs to. I think you're right that we are super super friendly XD, hahahahaha. I met 2 weeks ago a French girls wich came to my birthday's party (never seen before, they were friends of a friend of mine) and I talked with one of them in my french (very few words I know) and now they are both making a travel in others country of SouthAmerica. And in her vlog she wrote that the sympathy of a Chilean is the most of any other people of the area. We are in fact very clown hahahaha, is hurt to see a Chilean really angry. I love U so much! Bye bye fish*
cool! Isn't it fun to meet new people? I love meeting people from all around the world and I would agree about the sympathy that Chileans have for others! Great comment, see you later aligator!
Wonderful! Maybe I wasn't clear enoght XD. Well, I am from Santiago CL. You're so cute. I'd like to invite you and wife to my home, Santiago, close to Apoquindo avenue. I will prepare something special for both. Nothing I would like more than that! Really! Kisses my dear.
Actually a good thing is that Chile is no longer a developing country, the OCDE removed Chile from the list, but neither we are a developed country yet, so at the moment we are like in the middle of these two. It is called a transition.
Jon mira este video del año 2012 th-cam.com/video/HqzEBwsaBFA/w-d-xo.html un viaje desde Arica a Punta Arenas, se ven los contrastes del paisaje Jon, watch this video of the year 2012 th-cam.com/video/HqzEBwsaBFA/w-d-xo.html, it's a trip from Arica to Punta Arenas, you can see the contrasts of the landscape
Jon: I won’t offend anyone this time. I promise. Argentinians: what? You don’t think Argentina is the best country in South America?! I’m done with you! Now seriously. Great video.

Thanks so much Tommy and I do LOVE the variety of landscapes we can find here and yes the weather is great here!!!
That Hunger Games comparison was so on point! is really close to the reality!
Thnk you so much!!! I'm learning something new every single day and can't wait to keep sharing what I've learned!
Regards.
Isn't that the truth! The DR is crazy with cares and "guaguas" ha! Great point my friend!
This is a good video. Some people believe that South America is still Stonehenge but let me tell something, I've lived in. Argentina and things don't get any better. So I'm glad you highlighted that.
I agree and the US the same! Cheers Miguel!
So true isn't it?!
ohhh! Proxima vez!!!!
They were Cold War terms that may have had reputations attached to them
True story Anton and great suggestion to just put a plug in there like you said. Always learning!
Chao
Oh cool! Thanks so much for the suggestion and I will check that movie/ book?? out!
Chile I love this country
Very Nice Video, congratulations, looking forward to move to CHILE, I was in 93, but my family wants me to retire in Santiago, also La Serena is Nice too!!!!!
Great video!! I can't wait to be there in Linares next month.
YES! Next month!!!!
Thanks jon for you're opinion. Its so interesting
Thank you!
I like your introduction in every video " Another beatiful day in Chile" makes me lough .. Good luck and enjoy
I love you videos friend, i can practice my listening in a fun way 😍
wooo lovely video Chile , USA and Canada are the best
Great video, Jon! I didn't feel like I was in a "third world" country in Ecuador, either. I liked World Wide Wong's definition of what is 1st, 2nd and 3rd world. Makes sense. And, being the word Nazi that I am, I have to point out that it's infRastructure, with 3 "R's". That is all. 😃
My dear Jon thank for you comments.
Lord bless your family.
🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
actually Chile is a developing country, something between third world and first world country.
Good video
LOL!!!
I love your videos .. they are sooo entertaining. 10 kudos for you ❤️
Saludos a tu hermosa familia!!!
gracias!!!!!
Thanks jon, too kind.
You're right.Chile is a country of first world.Of course, what there are things, that to improve. But we it goes to achieve.
Absolutely! Sweden is something special but Chile is special in it's own way too!
ohhhh ok! gracias!
I love the way you see things because we as Chileans is hard to see thinks without any political points of view!
HI! Can you name that video in which you talked about Chile as a first world country? Tried to find it but I guess the name of the video doesn't match the subject. Thanks
I didn't actually end up making that video. I showed it to my friend and threw it all away. It's amazing how often that happens...
What a pity. It's a good topic.
Btw, I sent you a FB massage with another good topic for your videos.
www.elmostrador.cl/noticias/pais/2017/10/26/no-somos-nada-ocde-determina-que-chile-se-graduo-del-subdesarrollo-pero-aun-no-alcanza-los-niveles-de-un-pais-desarrollado/
Saludos.
hi jon we saw you yesterday (we appear on your video at 6:50 (the four girls on the bench) xD) but we didnt know if we should say hi to you or not 'cause you were busy haha we love your videos (:
oh hey! Next time feel free to say hi! How cool and your English is great!
Very interesting point of view!
Hey Men is one good vídeo thanks
Cool video bro
Maybe I am totally wrong, but the terms 1st, 2nd or 3rd world countries is not referring an economic level, how rich or how poor the country is. That term is referring to the counties that were not aligned with the US or the USSR. These counties were the "Paises no alienados" or "third world counties". During the "Cold War" countries aligned to with the US were the "1st world" the ones aligned with the USSR the "2nd world" and the rest were called the "3rd world". Please correct me if I am mistaken.
Those who speak in Spanish or comment in Spanish and English as I do xd
Good one.
I prefer that roads for National Parks, you are a part of the nature and don't destroy the environment.
You have 2 types of technologies to build, the Asian version and the Chilean way
really? interesting! I never thought of it that way.
even tough I agree with you on many of your opinions in the video, i'm not totally convinced chile is a first world country, we are surely going in that direction, but the critical bad distribution of wealth is what keeps us from achieving better standars of living for a wide porcentage of the people. and together with that our dependency on raw materials makes our incomes very unstable. once the state works on creating a more sustainable way of getting money, like working on science, i guess there we could see chile as a developed country
Your comparison to the Hunger Games Lol I'm still laughing bc that couldn't be any closer to reality haha love it! Keep posting!
Hi Jon how are you ? hope enjoy Chile ,and good comments anyway ,people living outside understood what you said .
NICE TO TRY TO MAKE CHILE BETTER!!!!!
God bless you my friend and your family
we used to be a third world country, now we are considered a developing country, which is good.
CHILE ONE 💪😎
Thanks for The vid uncle Jon, ( little hair Up there uncle haha) 😂😂
Bakan el video👍
We need to apologise, I read some nasty comments in your previous video, politics drive people crazy not matter where you go.
Yeah I'm sorry but I didn't even want to reply to any of the comments. Many of them were just disapointing but such is life!
Yup, we try to make everyone happy but we cant!
The Hunger Games! You are Brilliant!
very nice video ... i like it 😃👍🏻
Very well.
Chao pescado.
HOW TO MAKE CHILE BETTER!.....NICE
