Fine Movie, some good actors of fame, and the type of movie that cannot be made today. Personal note; now I recall why I joined the Army in 1968. Or in the words of Mr. Saml. Johnson-- 'a ship is a prison with the bargain of being drowned added.'
Recently saw William Bendix playing a British Sergeant in a British film with Anthony Newly, called , Idle on Parade , it’s worth seeing enjoyed both films .
None of the following actors were in this movie. Main Actors: Alan Ladd as Lieutenant Commander Johnny Vance, Charles Boyer as Captain Devine, Charles Laughton as Admiral Kane, Edward G. Robinson as Captain of the Ship, Micheline Presle as Jeanne, Terry Moore as Rita
When i was a kid 40 years ago, our national TV station (There where one at the time) 😱broadcast every saturday a classic movie, from the 30-40-50`s like Tarzan, Flash Gordon ect. But this one i really recall,, since my granddad was a pilot on a british carrier doing the war. I remember him keep saying. "That´s right, that happens, no that´s not right." Thank you for this trip down memory lane. 😇
Two Essex Class Carriers were severely damaged during the Pacific War.... USS Franklin and Bunker Hill. Don't know what footage was used...I think from both ships when on fire. Both did not sink. No Essex Class ever was sunk. One image of the flight deck showed "14" that was the USS Ticonderoga. (My Dad served on the Essex Class USS Bennington when it was new and made the same kind of voyage to the War Zone in Western Pacific.)
Really enjoyed that. William Bendix is always a treat. Bit disgusted that Captain Bligh is a fictional character according to the yanks - probably because a film was made with Clark Gable about the Bounty.
@@timcent7199 The vast majority of people watching this movie appreciate it being posted for viewing regardless of the attempt to colorize it. Many old black & white movies were colorized - some well done & some not so well done. I’m pretty sure the owner of this channel had zero to do with the colorizing attempt. If I’m mistaken about that, it might have been much better to leave it as the original B&W. Your nasty reply was totally unwarranted.
Just one Japanese plane and it easily bombed the aircraft carrier without any fighter plane intercepting it. What happened to the carrier radar? It should have detected the Japanese plane much earlier instead of relying on binoculars whose visuals are limited.
@@krismurphy7711 That was a lone aircraft with light HE bombs about 50kg not a 2000 lb armour piercing bomb. Where is the radar control and proximity fuse AA? Like I said lots of holes in the movie..
The attack on USS Franklin was ridiculous...indeed it was a lone bomber that evaded radar and struck the Franklin with two 500-lb bombs. The captain took the ship off GQ so, yes, guys were in the hangar deck waiting in the mess line and the 5-inch guns were unable to fire on the plane. Capt. Leslie Gehres conduct was kind of a mess.
Propaganda implies lying to the viewers. Since you obviously have no knowledge of the fighting spirit that the men who served in WW2 displayed, I would suggest that you do some studying, instead of spewing uninformed opinions about things that you know nothing about.
I remember watching these as a kid but they mean a lot more to me now. Great Movie

Just love these classic regardless of the up grades
Wow . What a prize !!!! Many thanks 🙏🌎🇺🇲

If you did the colorization STOP you really made a mess of it.
Shame they don't make movies like this anymore

Praise the Lord.🙏
The caption says it centers around the crew aboard a battleship but it's about a crew on an aircraft carrier
1:05 Yes, I see that now.
I almost passed on this one.
Just one of the hazards of being an independent TH-cam content creator, I guess.
Civies always think all ships in the navy are battleships. Really pisses us battleship sailors off.
Brave men who faced many horrors of war. Kamikaze and Submarines.
What ship was this?? The Midway? Went on the tour of the Midway in San Diego. Super cool!!

I love buck!
WTH - The "Main Actors" list has no relationship to this movie, and I can't find a movie in which the "Main Actors" starred together. Huh?
Nice movie Mewhortt
Didn’t know that George Jerson was in the Navy
Just as soon see this in Black and white
George Jetson getting a haircut

What's with the Technicolor ears ???
❤❤❤
فلم حربي جميل جدا
This seems to basically be the story of the USS Franklin, except in this version, the captain isn't an azzhole.
should have left it in BW.
It’s not color, it’s colorized.
Stop screwing up black and white with crappy color enhancements
Guess they ran out of gold color.
Start your own channel and do it your way otherwise get lost.
Stop whining Liberal 😂. We like it. Trump in 15 Days. A better America is ahead. Let’s send Joe to the Nursing Home 🏠 😂.
@@timcent7199 Dam Skippy . Probably voted for Kamala 😂.

When did the navy start wearing pink uniforms?
Colorized from the neck up
BRING YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR BUM.
IT IS TRULY AMAZING WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH OUR OLD MOIVES MOIVES. 😢😢😢

Great old movie but it did have some holes with operational processes.
Large groups attacks all aircraft attacking, etc.
Yep......Hollywood. But, as we know from Midway Battle, all it takes is one bomb to hit and ignite planes, fuel, bombs, etc.

Shame this has been stuffed up by trying to colourise the movie should have just left it alone it looks like crap
I Agree 💯
What BS, Two non-combatents!
Too much in your face propaganda for my taste.

Just because it’s patriotic that doesn’t make it propaganda. It’s more nostalgic than propagandistic.
