An adventure designed for the Thunder Rift setting, this was actually a box set. It included 3 16 page adventures and had an undead theme to it. The actual box set included poster maps, paper figures, and cardboard tiles.
Though it has 3 adventures in it, the 3 are not that expansive. They could easily be used as singular one shots, and if pushed, one could probably finish this entire set in a single day.
Though not horrible, its also not that great.
Truthfully written for the black box/ Rules Cyclopedia era, I group these in with the BECMI era. So thus, this is a BECMI review

I set a whole campaign in Thunder Rift back in the day. I didn't have this boxed set and so I homebrewed the fighters academy and Wizardspire for my party to explore.
The TR setting had lots of room to add more stuff in than was included in the six modules especially if you did what I did and multiplied the size of the valley by ten.
I love your reviews so please keep them going!

It’s too bad that nothing was ever done with wizards spire. From what I’ve found, especially at the end, things were really rushed out and incomplete

@@TheLostAdventurer I've got to say, given the amount of history in the initial setting book a lot of the other stuff did seem a bit short on detail.

I have never heard of thunder rift setting. I actually started playing AD&d in 81. I followed this hobby on and off for decades now. I play second edition. And I have never heard of this. I'm kind of dumbfounded about that. I plan on watching your playlist on it.
I'm a bit amazed that there's a level three to five adventure that has a vampire in it. That seems to be a little OP. But maybe he's a weaker version than I'm used to running.

Oh wow, my first D&D experience was playing this with my sisters, my dad DM'd. It was a TPK disaster! Great fun though!

Ooof. Where did you guys TPK at?

@@TheLostAdventurer Pretty early into the vampire's lair if I remember correctly! We were completely inexperienced players and my dad didn't pull any punches! He still has the boxed set I think, maybe I'll run a session with him and get some sweet revenge!

@@tomrobbins-hill9587 hahaha. That was rough, the Vampires Lair was supposed to be last. Ouch. :) dm the next one with your dad as a PC!

“Wights hidden under rotting gym mats”? Sounds chock full of symbolism on the topic of gyms and exercise! 😂

Thanks for doing a review on this.. I recently picked up the PDF and the PC characters weren’t a part of that.. the Game board characters were but not the D&D counterparts …any idea where I might get those?

I never really did Thunder Rift. I have the Dragon Quest boxset and a PoD...In this are Sir Jameson and sir Matheson references to blended whiskeys?

    • @TheLostAdventurer
      @TheLostAdventurer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Its supposed to be Sir Jameson and Sir Matthew... but Jameson is spelled the same way as the liquor. My mind blanked on Matthew and just called him Matheson the entire video.

I really like your reviews but I have to say, you really made a mistake with this one. I love it. And the creatures are quite powerful. Wights and wraiths drain levels, vampires and spectres drain two levels a hit. These guys are super dangerous. The mummy can cripple an unprepared party, between the fear and the mummy rot, this is tough. I did play these with AD&D 2e rules however so the creatures may be weaker in BECMI.
    Anyway, later dude.
