Hey! Just wanted to give you a huge thank you!!! Took my NBCOT last week and found out I passed! Your videos were super helpful and you're awesome. Keep it up!!!
Congrats Laura! Thanks for sharing! So glad my videos were helpful. Make sure you treat yourself to something fun-- you deserve it. Good luck moving forward!
Hi, good luck. I have a question about use of PAMs , which is can bachelors of OTs use this modalities in their purposeful activites that they give to their patients? If yes, they should have been certified for using it or not?
Hi Amir. It depends on where you live and the regulations/laws they have for modalities. In the U.S., there are some states that allow you to apply and treat with PAMs without any certification as an OT (Masters entry level) while others like you mentioned require additional certification/training. Hope that helps!
Would the contraindications for the superficial thermal agents be the same for the deep thermal agents? Also, why would someone choose phonophoresis compared to Iontophoresis (or vice versa)? Is it that they are used for different kinds of medication, or is it just preference on mechanism to administer meds?
Hi Ani. I am not an expert in PAMs but from my understanding, phonophoresis and iontophoresis are two similar options for topical medication application that both have similar contraindications just with different methods of delivery. I can see why you asked this question but I'm afraid I don't have a clear answer. I've read some research about the two and it seems like there isn't enough research to say which is better for what but it's evident they are both effective in treatment use for musculoskeletal pain. Overall, ultrasound use has more indications for use across various treatment areas compared to electrotherapy according to a source I will link below. The final decision on what to use will a combination of medical and occupational review, contraindications, and the patient's level of compliance to recovery. I myself would love to hear from an expert about this. Thanks for your question. You do have to be cautious of additional deep heat ones such as ultrasound (to avoid use over sensitive organs such as heart or uterus if pregnant as well as any metal plates/screws.
