Excellent! We harvested 350 lbs of potatoes last August, and stored them in our encapsulated crawl space all winter. We are eating the last of them today, and had 80 lb of seed potatoes left over to plant another 500 row-ft of potatoes back in April.

Hollis, perfect timing for me! My 1st experience planting some Red potatoes my wife had bought from a local organic farm, that we didn't get a chance to eat. The started budding, so I cut them up, and stuck them into the raised bed in the greenhouse, along side the kale. I didn't think that they were going to grow because so much time had elapsed, but, low & behold, one day I saw the first plant busting up out of the soil! Now I have several, that will be needing to be harvested. This video will help tremendously! Thanks to you both! We are in VA, and have had nothing but rain the past several days, and cooler temps Yuck! I'll let you know how things turn out! Have a Happy Memorial Day!!

I love this video! Not all my gardening Experiences give me a huge harvest and sometimes it feels like I’m doing everything wrong. It’s nice to see that others also have some of those experiences. Even Hollis and Nancy have a ‘not so prolific’ outcome from time to time and these guys are master gardeners. My take away is that nature is just doing her thing and that I AM doing this right because I’m ‘doing it!’ Thanks Hollis and Nancy! Great teachers and motivators!

I love your videos!!! They're really helping me getting back into growing plants! As a child my parents forced me to weed their garden of ornamental plants which turned me a bit off to gardening until me and my dad started growing orchids together, after he passed away mom gave away all the orchids and I haven't really grown anything since. But your excellent videos are changing that, thank you!

I have watched all of your videos on growing potatoes in buckets (and all of your other videos as well) and I tried it for the first time this year. I planted Norland Reds in 5 gallon buckets following your instructions, including mixing my own potting mix using Black Cow compost. I planted 4 buckets and even built the rack to set them on. I live in southeast Wisconsin and I got them planted about the first of May. It’s a little bit early but I just couldn’t wait to see if anything was going to be good so I just harvested my first bucket and I was thrilled to find it packed full of very nice looking potatoes. Hollis thank you so much for all of your “teaching “ videos and thanks to Nancy for some tasty recipes. You two are providing a great service. God bless. Paul.

I’ve started planting Mexican China, which is called spinach plant. They do great here. I kind of capitalize on things like the sweet potatoes because they love the heat and you can eat the greens. I also like the gourds that are the Asian gourds. I plant the snake gourd, loofah gourd, cocuzzi Gourd and thai bottle gourd.

I grew my first potato purely by accident. A potato in my pantry budded, and on my way out the front door one morning, I tossed it into a front planter. The months passed, and I was tending that planter, my trowel ran into a beautiful large potato! I fried it up that night and was surprised how much better it tasted than any potato I had ever had previous. Between them and three years ago when I found your earlier TH-cam suburban potato series, I had grow them haphazzardly. Thanks for making the new ones too! I've learned so much watching them, from introducing me to veg I didn't know about like Water Melon Radishes, to the garden structure builds, to this new potato storage video. I love them all. Thank you! God bless you, Hollis, Nancy and Bing Bing!

I'm sorry you got a smaller harvest that you expected. 🥔🥔🥔Still, it's always nice to watch your videos. It was nice to watch the harvest, and I love it every time we get to see your phenomenal pantry! It's always helpful to remind us not to wash the potatoes in advance, and to keep them out of direct sunlight but in a place where they get air all around. Is the weather too warm to plant another round of potatoes? Maybe a different, more heat-tolerant kind? I'm sure you'll be sowing something in those containers, on those impressive grow tables! Good health and happiness to you always!

After watching your videos I planted potatoes in a container last summer (using just my raised bed soil) and harvested in fall. Small harvest but for my first time I was happy. Then in October I started 3 buckets (using a combo of soil, manure and peat) and the plant never came out of the soil on any of them. When I dumped the bucket everything was rotted and there were bugs (maybe maggots). I think the manure may have been bad. I had another container with the same mix and all my onion seedlings died. We can't find Black Kow in the stores out here anymore. I don't have a big enough space to justify ordering a large amount online.

I really have a hard time, living in Maine, with wrapping my head around having
to get plants to maturity before hot summer temps. Anyway, our plant time is May
and last harvest late September. That means storing seed potatoes for 6-7 months.
Even in a 45-50 degree temp basement. This last Winter we stored the ones for seed
in a dorm sized refrigerator, stays 34-40 degrees. This spring took them out still firm
and no chits or blemishes. Chitted them and planted them 45 days ago and the mid
season ones are putting flower buds on. Also, we are now growing only in 3 and 10
gallon buckets. With staggered planting we are getting 3+ lbs of potatoes a week for
10 weeks from 20 buckets. We only dump a bucket when potatoes are on the menu.
No better tasting potato then from the soil to a plate in less than an hour. :)
Before anyone says, "You can't store potatoes in the fridge" for eating you're correct.
For eating potatoes, any taters stored at below about 42 degrees, starches start
turning to sugars, that won't taste good. But it doesn't affect them from being used
    as seed potatoes.
Hollis, as I under stand it, the Yukon Gold is an Early variety, making it a determinant
potato. Might that have something to do wih the small harvest?
    TYFS

Spent soil from containers canned saved and amended for reuse. For potatoes the soil can be reused for vegetables other than potatoes or tomatoes.

If you are HUNGRY and can't buy bagged potatoes due to inflation, it's GOOD ENOUGH! You can grow grow your own 5 to 10lbs bags of potatoes and you can STORE them and if planted at the right time... SEED THEM for next year!

My mom and stepdad grew a row of potatoes in rocky clay soil and had a beautiful harvest. I grew mine in buckets of expensive potting mix, had beautiful plants and no potatoes! I got about 1/4 of a Solo cup of potatoes from 4 buckets! I think I gave them too much of something!

I have never peeled my potatoes 🥔. There's too much nutrition in the peels, then to be throwing it away:)

Isn't it counter productive to save seed potatoes from a plant(s) that had a poor harvest?
