Mr.Hollis we have met before!😃😃😃 I don’t remember the exact place here in Hampton VA you were still an active firefighter 👨🚒 it was years ago! I’m 43 now and I would like to thank you for your service to our community ❤️
Us too! It's so exciting to succeed. We harvest are very first (four small) red potatoes last week and nothing has ever tasted so delicious. Today we harvest four red, six yellow and six purple potatoes. We grew carrots, and onions for the first time too. Good luck to you and great job!
Excellent! We harvested 350 lbs of potatoes last August, and stored them in our encapsulated crawl space all winter. We are eating the last of them today, and had 80 lb of seed potatoes left over to plant another 500 row-ft of potatoes back in April.
Hollis, perfect timing for me! My 1st experience planting some Red potatoes my wife had bought from a local organic farm, that we didn't get a chance to eat. The started budding, so I cut them up, and stuck them into the raised bed in the greenhouse, along side the kale. I didn't think that they were going to grow because so much time had elapsed, but, low & behold, one day I saw the first plant busting up out of the soil! Now I have several, that will be needing to be harvested. This video will help tremendously! Thanks to you both! We are in VA, and have had nothing but rain the past several days, and cooler temps Yuck! I'll let you know how things turn out! Have a Happy Memorial Day!!
I have learned so much about harvesting your own food these past few months. We just started growing out own potatoes and am looking forward to when we can do exactly what you did today. We also bought a pressure canner and have learned how to can vegetables. Feeling blessed by your videos. Thank you!
Morning brother and sister, my potatoes and tomatoes, peas, cukes and green beans are growing well. So excited and proud to share this with you both. Hope the hens are producing lots of eggs for you. I've learned to preserve eggs by wayer glass and freezing. God is great! God bless and so grateful for your shared wisdom for my garden!!
I love this video! Not all my gardening Experiences give me a huge harvest and sometimes it feels like I’m doing everything wrong. It’s nice to see that others also have some of those experiences. Even Hollis and Nancy have a ‘not so prolific’ outcome from time to time and these guys are master gardeners. My take away is that nature is just doing her thing and that I AM doing this right because I’m ‘doing it!’ Thanks Hollis and Nancy! Great teachers and motivators!
I love your videos!!! They're really helping me getting back into growing plants! As a child my parents forced me to weed their garden of ornamental plants which turned me a bit off to gardening until me and my dad started growing orchids together, after he passed away mom gave away all the orchids and I haven't really grown anything since. But your excellent videos are changing that, thank you!
I have watched all of your videos on growing potatoes in buckets (and all of your other videos as well) and I tried it for the first time this year. I planted Norland Reds in 5 gallon buckets following your instructions, including mixing my own potting mix using Black Cow compost. I planted 4 buckets and even built the rack to set them on. I live in southeast Wisconsin and I got them planted about the first of May. It’s a little bit early but I just couldn’t wait to see if anything was going to be good so I just harvested my first bucket and I was thrilled to find it packed full of very nice looking potatoes. Hollis thank you so much for all of your “teaching “ videos and thanks to Nancy for some tasty recipes. You two are providing a great service. God bless. Paul.
My grandma in Louisiana kept hers under the house. Back of the house sat about four feet off the ground. She kept them there all the time, just covered them with garden lime
I just load your channel up on my TV while I work. With the way things are I'm definitely going to be planing potatoes and onions and garlic next year maybe some carrots too I just have limited space so I love these methods you have shared. God bless you Hollis and Nancy
I live in Williston, which is I believe near where you live from what I hear you say. I never have a great potato harvest. I have started planting cassava and also for greens. I’ve started planting Mexican China, which is called spinach plant. They do great here. I kind of capitalize on things like the sweet potatoes because they love the heat and you can eat the greens. I also like the gourds that are the Asian gourds. I plant the snake gourd, loofah gourd, cocuzzi Gourd and thai bottle gourd.
I'm so glad i found your channel. i followed your instructions by the book on my 5 gallon bucket potatoes. i got a huge harvest of them. i even built your bucket stand. thank you so much!
I grew my first potato purely by accident. A potato in my pantry budded, and on my way out the front door one morning, I tossed it into a front planter. The months passed, and I was tending that planter, my trowel ran into a beautiful large potato! I fried it up that night and was surprised how much better it tasted than any potato I had ever had previous. Between them and three years ago when I found your earlier TH-cam suburban potato series, I had grow them haphazzardly. Thanks for making the new ones too! I've learned so much watching them, from introducing me to veg I didn't know about like Water Melon Radishes, to the garden structure builds, to this new potato storage video. I love them all. Thank you! God bless you, Hollis, Nancy and Bing Bing!
I like your cleaning table & your potato tower. We saved potatoes last year, to eat thru the winter & for seed. They all went crazy on the seed job lol
Thank you so very much, I have wanted to grow potatoes in buckets forever it seems, but nobody even if they grew them could tell me enough to satisfy me. These and all of your videos are absolutely Amazing 🤩 You & Nancy are Awesome 💟
Thank you sir for your really helpful video!! God bless you and your family...you seem like such a True kind Gentleman...not finding too many of your kind around anymore...👍😇😌
Happy Sunday morning to you both.. I have been watching your videos for a long time and I must say these are the most informative I have ever seen. I was watching this morning about growing potatoes and you gave a very good lesson on paper of the Determinate and Indeterminate ones to plant. I cannot find the video that gives the printout for those. Can you please let me know where to find these?? I need to add it to my instructional material. Thank you and hope y'all have a blessed day.
I'm sorry you got a smaller harvest that you expected. 🥔🥔🥔Still, it's always nice to watch your videos. It was nice to watch the harvest, and I love it every time we get to see your phenomenal pantry! It's always helpful to remind us not to wash the potatoes in advance, and to keep them out of direct sunlight but in a place where they get air all around. Is the weather too warm to plant another round of potatoes? Maybe a different, more heat-tolerant kind? I'm sure you'll be sowing something in those containers, on those impressive grow tables! Good health and happiness to you always!
Love your channel. I’ve been a gardening friend for years now. I often wash my potatoes because my soil is often wet-ish when I harvest them so lots of dirt on them. I always appreciate your gardening common sense. 😊

Thanks Hollis and Nancy for the work and videos. My wife and I just dug our second potato crop, so I knew you tell me the best way to handle our harvest. Mine are ready to pull now, too, last year they went longer. I planted some in late fall for the fun of it and harvested for Christmas and New Year’s, first time ever. Warm winter, hot spring, almost no rain, makes a difference.
2 yrs ago i did potatoes and received a nice harvest. I planted again this yr and lost the whole tote. They were nice and green, flowers died off, and no potatoes.
I'm sorry I have a question. Im new to Gardening what you do with dirt from the Containers. Do plant potatoes again same dirt. ( Not trying to be funny) I really don't know 😒
If you are HUNGRY and can't buy bagged potatoes due to inflation, it's GOOD ENOUGH! You can grow grow your own 5 to 10lbs bags of potatoes and you can STORE them and if planted at the right time... SEED THEM for next year!
My mom and stepdad grew a row of potatoes in rocky clay soil and had a beautiful harvest. I grew mine in buckets of expensive potting mix, had beautiful plants and no potatoes! I got about 1/4 of a Solo cup of potatoes from 4 buckets! I think I gave them too much of something!

Before anyone says, "You can't store potatoes in the fridge" for eating you're correct.
For eating potatoes, any taters stored at below about 42 degrees, starches start
turning to sugars, that won't taste good. But it doesn't affect them from being used
as seed potatoes.

If you are HUNGRY and can't buy bagged potatoes due to inflation, it's GOOD ENOUGH! You can grow grow your own 5 to 10lbs bags of potatoes and you can STORE them and if planted at the right time... SEED THEM for next year!
Brother Hallis and sister Nancy who Got bless know man can cuss
My mom and stepdad grew a row of potatoes in rocky clay soil and had a beautiful harvest. I grew mine in buckets of expensive potting mix, had beautiful plants and no potatoes! I got about 1/4 of a Solo cup of potatoes from 4 buckets! I think I gave them too much of something!
I have never peeled my potatoes 🥔. There's too much nutrition in the peels, then to be throwing it away:)
Isn't it counter productive to save seed potatoes from a plant(s) that had a poor harvest?
Do you have a set of instructions for building your tater tower, please?
