Just an FYI to those who say it’s not “organic” … Organic does NOT mean chemical or fertilizer free. Hence why the 2 competing “organic” labels on produce in the US have differing regulations… you MUST have BOTH labels to be chemical free but even then there are NO concrete regulations fertilizers. Pesticides are not the same as fertilizers.
Think of “cage free” eggs, if you look at the regulations what you’re buying isn’t what you think. Same with “grass fed” meat, they are still pumped with hormones, antibiotics etc and are from the same 3 big cattle factories. Most of the beef in the US is actually from Brazil and our USA beef is sold to other countries. USDA “GRADE” beef is not beef grown in the US, it’s beef that’s been *processed* and graded in the US.
If you want healthy food grow yourself and buy from your local farmer.
Love your videos and the inspiration you give. God bless!

I got zero sweet potatoes last year. The heat and drought in Texas was so bad that not even the sweet potatoes grew. This year I’m going to plant them in raised beds. Hopefully that will help them grow better. Love your videos, Hollis and Nancy! I’ve learned so much from you guys! I am eternally thankful to God to leading me to finding your videos. Keep up the great work!

That’s strange. Sweet potatoes are very drought resistant ! It doesn’t take a whole lot of rain to make yields.

Gardening and growing food is a labor of love for sure. We do it even in the cold, wind, heat, rain and through pain. It definitely could be easier to just walk in a store and purchase what you need. God told us we would toil in the soil for our food but I feel like these days it’s a gift God gave us. The rewards are so great. I am now 60 and I hope I can garden for the rest of my life. Love to all of you out there. My heart is full

So funny, I had sweet potatoes in the oven when this video popped up! I have heard the term "slips" before, but never saw them. I thought you'd just be making each potato grow roots, then plant the potatoes. I enjoyed watching the progression, and the full grown plants were gorgeous. "ain't nothin fun about..." 😂 Wow, that was some seriously hard work. Your back must have been screaming, Hollis!

One sweet potato I missed harvesting 4 years ago continues to push up slips, and I plant them out here in Central Florida.
These are called Japanese sweet potatoes in many ethnic groceries. 'Go-gu-ma' is Korean for sweet potato, and 'Boem' in the front is Chestnut, just to describe the taste/texture similarity to roasted chestnuts. They seem to need at least another month in ground compared to the orange varieties. But the leaves are supposed to be better for eating, if you are into that.
As always, appreciate all the work you put into these start-to-harvest-to -table videos.

wow, that's a hard haul - its amazing but I think I'm going to use the bucket or grow bag method after seeing this! Don't think my back could take it! Also, you can make tea with the leaves, or cut them up to put in a soup, but it makes excellent compost too.
