How often do these areas on Merritt Island need to be evacuated due to hurricanes?
Great question. I have had to evacuate 2 out of the last 5 years. It really depends on the storm track and the size of the storm. I hope this helps.
How do the evacuations work? Where do you evacuate to? What is the damage like when you return?
The governor usually mandates the evacuation of the barrier islands IF a hurricane is approaching. You should go to get to the mainland. I have family I go to. Some people go to friends. Others get a hotel. Some don't evacuate.
Damage depends on the storm. It varies eah time
