I was married in an authentic 1880s western themed wedding at an old line shack on a ranch in Pagosa Springs, NM in 1997. The next day our entire wedding party, all resplendent , me in my bustle wedding dress, my groom in a mountain man buckskin, others in bustles and home spun, feathered hats, parasols, Native American dress, boots, chaps, saloon get-ups, and Stetsons, a guitar and a bango player from the wedding, boarded this beautiful train. It was so much fun!The trip, the train and the scenery were all awesome. A precious memory even after all these years. Highly recommend !

I wish you could have been in Durango on the Durango, Silverton Railroad in the 1970’s , 1990’s before so much changed in that area. We went back there about 6 years ago, took the train again with my grandkids, and were sad to see how how much Durango has changed. So overcrowded and frustrating. . Even Mesa Verde looked so sad from the extensive fires in the area. It used to be so pristine and simply beautiful. I am sure you still enjoyed it. Glad we were able to experience our home state Colorado when it wasn’t so overcrowded. The rest of your trip beautiful! Thanks for sharing
I bet it was a different experience back then. I’m glad to hear they’ve updated the train since those days though to make it more environmentally friendly
Rode the Durango Silverton 3 years ago. It is one of the few things the wife said she would do again in a heartbeat. Glad they enjoyed it because we thought it was amazing.
Great video and beautiful scenery. I recommend the Silverton to Durango route in mid-September. The aspens add an awesome bonus. Take the train one way and bus back.
Forty two years ago Aug. my wife Annette and I honeymooned in Durango and Silverton and rode the Silverton Train both ways. The train at the time was still a part of the D&RGW, it still ran one freight car for the folks in Needleton and the cabins along the way. We spent our 25th at the Wyman(built in 'o4) in Silverton. We get back whenever we can. Beautiful country and fascinating history.
My wife and I did the train ride today thanks to y’all we really loved the experience highly recommend to anyone. The town itself is also super nice and there’s plenty to do.
The JOY in this video! It's infectious. Awesome to see you smiling and having a great time after the "bumper incident". Durango looks like such a fun little town.
Thank the lord this adventure went more smoothly! Not going to lie, was a tad nervous to go on a train on the side of a mountain after how the universe treated us at Mesa Verde lol!
What a well made production of our Durango Train! You did an excellent job documenting this experience for others to enjoy. I've been on the train a dozen times this year alone and it's awesome to see it being put up on the big screen like this.
After watching your video I added the train ride and ice cream to our trips itinerary. My mom and sister very much enjoyed both. Particularly the salted caramel ice cream. Thank you so much, I enjoy watching your adventures.
We stayed in Silverton this past May and drove to Durango to experience this trip. It was totally awesome! We had a layover in Silverton which was good because we had to feed my two goldens and eat lunch. It was a day long trip but I recommend it for anyone who happens to be in the area even if you only want to go as far as Cascade Canyon. Such beautiful scenery. We are going back to that area next year but we might stay in Ouray next time.
We road the train three years ago. It was cold and wet. The ride was still a lot of fun. We had a small rock slide across the tracks and had to wait two hours while the tracks were cleared. Our dog Penny had the time of her life when we were there. The dog sitter was supposed to take her out twice. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Instead she grabbed her from our Hotel and Penny spent the day touring Durango. When we would get cell coverage all kinds of pictures show up of Penny being the ultimate tourist. It was a great time.
You've scored another video shooting, editing, and narrating triumph! Thank you. Wife and I rode the D&SNGRR in 2002, and loved it as much as you did, except we did the all day thing, which was way too much. Silverton is a cool town, but you saw the railroad's highlights. I also love the way you guys review junk food while you eat it! Keep up your great work and safe travels, always.
Thank you so much! We were very excited to put this video together. We agree on the length, we loved the shorter length of Cascade Canyon Express. We visited Silverton by vehicle and are glad we had more time there than just a short layover!
Y'all did a fantastic job... I'm so glad you went to the museum too. I used to be a narrator on the train, I portrayed Chipeta who was Chief Ouray's wife. You got to love Durango!!!
Wow! One of my favorite videos so far. The scenery on that train ride looks incredible - almost as incredible as the ice cream! Have to add it all to our list :)
I just got back home from visiting family in Silverton and I cannot get over how magical and beautiful it is there. Me and my family are definitely going back again next year.
I rode the train to Silverton in 1966 and it was amazing. The route to Cascade Canyon looks incredible as well. I'd say it's more than past time to go back.
Hello Adventurers😊😊, Southwest Colorado is absolutely SPECTACULAR! That train ride was AWESOME, and the history of Durango Train and the way it was built around tight areas along cliffs was AMAZING! Now, those ice cream cones...i just wanted to sw ipe in grab those cones😊😊😊😊!
We are madly in love with southwest Colorado! Beyond excited to share more of its beauty! It’s rare a place speaks to us as much as it has here. ❤️ And that cone was the bomb!
So cool to have this memory of our train ride! You did a great job of capturing it on video. We missed out on the yummy ice cream though. Will have to try it next time! Looking forward to watching your next adventure! Tim and Cindy
I’m so excited about this video and that you both got to do this! This is a bucket list item for me, something I’m currently crushing on and I have the model train in my train collection. 🥰 Thanks for taking me along for the ride!
Durango is amazing. The CT finishes there. So cool. That would be a cool area for a train trip. I definitely would choose the open air car too! LOL.... listening to Kathryn eat the ice cream.... so funny.
Your wonderful video brought back memories of when my family & I rode this train a few years ago. Absolutely stunning! We were there at the end of June, which was warm, so we got an extra bonus memory. On our way back into Durango, when we were going along the river, the young conductor warned everyone that if you didn’t want to see the local young people, who were swimming by the shore of the river, showing the train “Sun’s out; buns out,” then you should go to the opposite side of the train! Well, I think everyone came over to the side where they could see; so I’m glad the train didn’t tip over! Apparently, this has been a known tradition, and I’m sure college students were involved! We still laugh about it to this day!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I just read an online article about this “Mooning the train” tradition there, which was written in 2013, so it looks like this has been going on even before that! This article explained how some people were getting too carried away and how the town is going to “crack” down on it (sorry, I couldn’t resist!).
Rode the train years ago. On our way to Silverton, the train made a special stop for us near the Colorado trail. Everyone watched us the backpackers get dropped off in the middle of the woods.
Went to Durango and Silverton in Colorado with my sister and her family in February for my birthday. We also rode that train also. BEAUTIFUL place! I've always wanted to go to Colorado and seeing the mountains and snow there was extravagant... Will definitely be going there again ❤

I'm multi tasking right now. I'm watching on one phone the spacewalk to install the new solar panels on the ISS. The assembly of the launch/recovery tower at Boca Chica Texas on my laptop and you guys on my other phone. Three of my favorite TH-camrs. Whew. Thanks Bob
You’ve visited one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to. Loved that ride so much when we went on it. Best pics ever! Definitely a must-ride if in the area. Now drive over to Pagosa Springs to soak in the hot springs. ⛰
You guys find so many incredible places and find so many cool things to do. Each video we watch, adds more and more to our bucket list. Were so impressed by everything you find!
Super thankful to the youtube algorithm for recommending this just as I'm about to leave Moab on my way to Santa Fe this weekend. Just made a reservation and will be riding the train tomorrow before I get back on the road. Keep up the great content guys!!
We were in Durango just a few weeks ago on the way from Utah via Mesa Verde NP to San Juans and further north. We stopped at the same ice cream shop and it was fantastic. Watching your video brought back some wonderful memories!
I rode the Durango - Silverton Narrow Gauge 37 years ago, and it was beautiful. It was winter and there was a lot of snow, so they only went half way and came back. I need to do it again sometime, it was well worth it.
Riding on the Durango & Silverton RR is now on my to do list, it looks like y’all had a blast! I love those old Steam locomotives, so much nostalgia of how travel used to be for the people that could afford it. And amazing drone footage as always!
Thank you so much Jymn! Our biggest hope is to either encourage others to visit these places or if they can’t, make them feel like they got to virtually experience them. Hahaha peanut butter cups are the BEST!
Welcome Back A+K ! This one is on my bucket list! These are the adventures I look foward too plus your Food Review travels ! Keep up the great work ! Have a great summer ! 🌅😎🌮🏄♂️🌲🏊♂️🍺🍺🍻
Thanks Doug! We were really excited to share this one, we tried very hard to make it informative and showcase the experience and history the best we could!
Your videography is so good. The integration of drone footage into the story was fantastic. Loved all the useful information on the train ride. Great content in a well-done format!
Great video. I like trains. If i ever go to Durango Colorado. I'm going to ride the train, go see the mountains, and check out that museum and eat at one of those nice restaurants and ice cream parlors. You both say it's well worth it. I'll take your word.😊
I was not expecting this, but my goodness, I'm so pleased you did the train ride. The different gauges are fascinating. There's places in Europe where they have to swap mid journey, I know travelling between Poland and the Ukraine on the overnight sleeper, they swap the wheels so people say you can be woken. The scenery around the mountains was stunning and those trails at Cascade Canyon had a Yosemite feel to them ❤️ I love it when you guys throw a curve ball like this - bit like the via ferrata and horse riding vlogs out east 🙌
We have been really excited to do some new (to us) activities here in CO besides just hiking! We filmed a really fun (and at times exhilerating) activity/video on Wednesday that we can't wait to share in a couple weeks!
Hi A&K, it's been two years since you've been in Durango. My sister and her husband are there now. Your video gave me the sense of being there. Thanks for sharing 🚂🚃 André
Just got back from Durango with my family and it did not disappoint. All of the recommendations and tips in this video helped greatly. Also following along with the Alaska trip it looks like so much fun.
I just moved back to Durango (which is probably why this showed up in my recommendations). We lived here 20 years ago and my boys were little and we would chase the train up the valley to the crossings to “wave at the train”! I have a small arts and crafts shop here (Artist Depot) teaching crafting, sewing and more and I am so happy to be back in what I think is the BEST city in Colorado! Glad you shared “our” special train! You gotta go to Silverton though. It’s a classic old town.
We totally would've been right with you and your boys chasing the train to wave! We tried to see it daily from the library! We love Durango a ton, it's definitely one of our favorite places ever. And we spent over a week in Silverton, it's amazing!
We haven’t spent any time in Durango but enjoyed the train when it was parked in Silverton while we were traveling through from doing jeep trails. I think that 5 hour trip would be perfect for us. So thanks for the info and the ice cream tip!!!
You were right, that was GORGEous! Awesome excursion and experience. Great shots from the train which I am sure were challenging to obtain. Really enjoyed the history lessons at the beginning of the video too. If you ever make it to Skagway, Alaska they have a narrow gauge railroad too. The White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad. It runs from Skagway and up into the Yukon Territory of Canada. I only did a short trip up to White Pass but it was beautiful. Skagway is a neat town as well, very steeped in gold rush era history.
That train ride is so cool. Did it many years ago when they had the coal fired engine. If you sat in the open coach you could get some hot coal soot on you every once in a while. But the views are epic! Safe travels.
Train rides are a hoot! I haven't done the Durango and Silverton, but we did one that went from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO called the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR that was simply outstanding. Glad to see you had a good day after Biscuit''s injury.
Wow. I was there in August 2020 the area is so beautiful however the train was closed due to COVID , but I hope to return someday and take the train. Thanks for sharing
I LOVE it! The only still-running Narrow-Gauge Train! I've been on this scenic train ride before (in the open-air car), and it is so wonderous- it does not disappoint!! If you think this video is gorgeous, let me assure you, to see it 'live', it just literally takes your breath away-SO amazing! I also heard that Disney World's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride was based on this..... cool-EST!!
Wow! This is the kind of wholesome content I need in my life! What an awesome vlog with amazing views and fantastic train ride! I actually took photos of that train once while it was winding through the mountains. I was not a passenger although it looks like I should be at some point! This was fun! I LOVE Colorado!!!
Just forwarded this video to my parents so they can take this train ride! 🚆 Such an awesome video! I'm going too for the train ride and the icecream!! 🍦🍨 💜

You gotta go back! It was SO fun! And he ALMOST let me embarrass myself on camera! 😂
I'm multi tasking right now.
I'm watching on one phone the spacewalk to install the new solar panels on the ISS.
The assembly of the launch/recovery tower at Boca Chica Texas on my laptop and you guys on my other phone. Three of my favorite TH-camrs.
Whew.
Thanks
Bob
Wow, honored to make the list!
You’ve visited one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to. Loved that ride so much when we went on it. Best pics ever! Definitely a must-ride if in the area. Now drive over to Pagosa Springs to soak in the hot springs. ⛰
We LOVED Durango! And that'll be the next video! 🙌🏼
A&K your video convinced my husband and myself to make this our next trip, thank you for the video tour very helpful good information. Thanks
Yay! We love that area of CO so much!
My parents and I did the round trip excursion on the 4th of July this year and we loved it!
This train is so much fun. I really like it in the winter too.
Oh yes experiencing it in the winter would be a lot of fun too!
Thanks for visiting! Come back anytime you want!
You guys find so many incredible places and find so many cool things to do. Each video we watch, adds more and more to our bucket list. Were so impressed by everything you find!
Y'all are TOO kind! Our wallet isn't loving Colorado, but we sure are lol! 😂 Can't wait to hopefully have an incredible adventure together soon! 🤞🏼
Super thankful to the youtube algorithm for recommending this just as I'm about to leave Moab on my way to Santa Fe this weekend. Just made a reservation and will be riding the train tomorrow before I get back on the road. Keep up the great content guys!!
We love with the algorithm brings the right folks our way! Have a blast!
That train ride looked SOOOO awesome!!! Durango looked adorable and that ice cream…🤤😋🤤😋🤤😋
Oh and I loved the bloopers! Nice teeth, Kathryn! Haha!
Hahahaha just some berries in my teeth don’t mind me! 😂
We were in Durango just a few weeks ago on the way from Utah via Mesa Verde NP to San Juans and further north. We stopped at the same ice cream shop and it was fantastic. Watching your video brought back some wonderful memories!
Sooo happy you went there! We went multiple times we loved it so much!
I rode the Durango - Silverton Narrow Gauge 37 years ago, and it was beautiful. It was winter and there was a lot of snow, so they only went half way and came back. I need to do it again sometime, it was well worth it.
Snow would be so pretty!
That railroad line is so beautiful. Its such an amazing ride. Definitely do the ride to Silverton someday. And, yes, the open air is the right choice!
Riding on the Durango & Silverton RR is now on my to do list, it looks like y’all had a blast! I love those old Steam locomotives, so much nostalgia of how travel used to be for the people that could afford it. And amazing drone footage as always!
The nostalgia made it such a fun experience for us! Just hearing them say “all aboard” and hearing the train go off gave me chills haha
Cuddled on the couch with my two girls watching the beauty of Durango
Thank you so much Jymn! Our biggest hope is to either encourage others to visit these places or if they can’t, make them feel like they got to virtually experience them. Hahaha peanut butter cups are the BEST!
A train ride with Amazing views, Salted Caramel Ice Cream and Kona kisses! So glad this adventure is a good one for the two of you!
MUCH better than the last one lol!
Welcome Back A+K ! This one is on my bucket list! These are the adventures I look foward too plus your Food Review travels ! Keep up the great work ! Have a great summer ! 🌅😎🌮🏄♂️🌲🏊♂️🍺🍺🍻
Hi Ernesto! We LOVED the train! Have an awesome summer too!
Very nice job with this video. Thanks for explaining so much.
Thanks Doug! We were really excited to share this one, we tried very hard to make it informative and showcase the experience and history the best we could!
Your videography is so good. The integration of drone footage into the story was fantastic. Loved all the useful information on the train ride. Great content in a well-done format!
Thank you so much! We really appreciate that!
@Adventures of A+K Oooooh intriguing!! Now I can't wait to watch it! 🙌
I'll add that to my list of things to do when I make my way west. Looks amazing! Thanks for sharing with us. Take care y'all.
Durango is amazing! Definitely worth a visit!
Wow! You've convinced me. That's it. I'm going. Thanks for posting.
Ya gotta do it! Thanks for watching!
Hi A&K, it's been two years since you've been in Durango. My sister and her husband are there now. Your video gave me the sense of being there. Thanks for sharing 🚂🚃 André
Awesome! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Thank you, what a great video 👍, we'll take the train in September, and I can't wait to taste the ice-cream.🍦
Awesome! We hope you have a great time!
Should be on everyone's bucket list. Truly an amazing adventure!!
Just got back from Durango with my family and it did not disappoint. All of the recommendations and tips in this video helped greatly. Also following along with the Alaska trip it looks like so much fun.
So happy you enjoyed Durango! We love it there so much!
So glad you did Silverton and Ouray! Such classic towns!
We haven’t spent any time in Durango but enjoyed the train when it was parked in Silverton while we were traveling through from doing jeep trails. I think that 5 hour trip would be perfect for us. So thanks for the info and the ice cream tip!!!
We really liked the shorter 5 hour one. We think Silverton needs more than a short layover and is worth the drive up there!
Oooo very good to know about the Alaska train! We would LOVE to do that!
That train ride looks so cool! After watching your video I told my girlfriend we are going to Durango. I think in the fall it may be amazing.
We are already planning to come back to Colorado in the fall in the future! Would be amazing with all of the aspens!
We hope to do the same tour soon! Beautiful scenery and canyon ride. Nice video...thanks for the encouragement!
We hope you can too! It's a ton of fun!
Hey guys saw this In my recommendation videos ! I’m from Durango co! Love it and it’s beautiful. I live in Texas now
Oh nice! We are from Texas! We loved Durango!
That train ride is so cool. Did it many years ago when they had the coal fired engine. If you sat in the open coach you could get some hot coal soot on you every once in a while. But the views are epic! Safe travels.
They just switched from coal to fuel very recently! We learned that from the museum attendant Dennis, so he saved us from saying the wrong thing haha!
They have a really cool 1880’s train in South Dakota Black Hills , that runs between Hill City and Keystone . It was a cool ride !
We would LOVE to do that!
Train rides are a hoot! I haven't done the Durango and Silverton, but we did one that went from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO called the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR that was simply outstanding. Glad to see you had a good day after Biscuit''s injury.
How awesome! That would be extra fun to go between states!
@@AdventuresofAplusK That is a great train ride Cumbres and Toltec It is all but awesome scenery. day
Wow. I was there in August 2020 the area is so beautiful however the train was closed due to COVID , but I hope to return someday and take the train. Thanks for sharing
Aw man, you’ll have to go back!
What a great video Durango is a favorite town of mine. Thanks enjoyed watching ‼️‼️
Thank you so much! We love Durango!
Never taken a train ride but this one takes the 'I want to' up a bunch of notches! Great shots of your ride on the mountainside!
Thank you so much! We hope you can go on a steam train someday!
Ah very cool! We saw some guy standing on a rock taking photos!
Just forwarded this video to my parents so they can take this train ride! 🚆 Such an awesome video! I'm going too for the train ride and the icecream!! 🍦🍨 💜
You’re going to love it! Have an extra scoop or two for us!
Omg, it's so beautiful there! Luv the story telling about the train
Thanks so much!
My wife and I have rode this train many times. Planning on another trip very soon. We always get the open air car,
Great video, my wife and I plan to visit Durango and ride the train this July for our 30th anniversary thank you.
That'll be a great anniversary trip! We hope you have a great time and happy anniversary!
I'm doing this train ride tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Have a blast Gabriel! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
