I don't know if she realises but every song she sings she acts out the characters emotions, even if she's not performing it as part of a story. That's talent.
Amelia Swan It's actually more insecurity and habit! I don't like singing as myself. Never have. So if a song comes from a story, becoming the character that sings it makes it easier for me to perform. It's also just what I learnt to do when I was a kid. I loved musical theatre so when I was learning songs from watching movies, I learnt the actions and the facial expressions from what I was watching on screen. 💜 xxx
And this is why I love watching you perform, over many others. I have a similar habit and I personally just feel more powerful singing as that character over just singing as myself, which I struggle and rarely do. Amazing cover Carrie

So she sings Burn (beautifully I might add!) and gets so much hate for it that she has to take down the video, but this particular Lin-Manuel Miranda song (also originally sung by a POC) is perfectly fine? I really don't understand people sometimes. Both covers are/were equally gorgeous!
That's exactly what I thought! People are hypocrites. It's like saying only Italians can sing Frank Sinatra. Or only Brits can sing Amy Winehouse. It doesn't make sense.
I was so worried that the comments would be filled with "you're not POC" comments. Absolutely ridiculous and upset with the amount of hate Carrie got for the Burn video, which was beautifully sung (like you said). I'm glad to so far just see praise for Carrie, totally deserves it
She does indeed, she has a fantastic voice! I do understand that she couldn't PLAY Eliza because she's not a POC, but there is no harm in her singing the songs!
If everything is made about "you can't, you're not one of us" isn't that segregation? Why can't we all just live and let live and get along? And support one another.
I didn't even know the actress of Eliza was Asian until this was apparently such a big deal??? I'd expect it more for this because Moana is actually a part of a storyline where she is a part of another culture whereas Hamilton is a cast of not all Caucasian actors playing Caucasian historical figures. I had no idea her cover of burn was taken down but it's kind of infuriating to me that people would be offended because a white girl sang a song that is from the point of view of... a.. white character?
