I find it so interesting how the word " homesteading" has become so popular. Its actually just life living in the country like people have done for generations & anyone who has lived or raised in the country knows especially those living on farms. I have come to the conclusion the term " homesteading" taking over originated from big city people who have moved to the country. Where I live you never hear of homesteading its just living in the country or farms/ farmers.
It's just so crazy! When 'homesteading' became popular - I just rolled my eyes! felt like like it started with 'yuppies' who thought they created this type of living. 🙄 They treat is as if it's something new, and a massive project. As a kid, I grew up this way, and it was just our way of life....living in a rural area in a cabin my dad built by himself on a lake....living off the land, brushing our teeth in the bushes, taking our baths in the lake when the weather permitted, otherwise my mom heated up ice cold hand pumped water on a gas stove. Many decades later - after I've had so many wonderful experiences living in so many different types of places --- including Chicago, near a border town in southern AZ, followed by university town outside of Orlando, Florida. I now have gone back to living in a rural area in MN. It is made up of 2,400 people with not one stop light in town. It's definitely a different way of life that I prefer. Do I call it 'homesteading'? Certainly not. It's just simple country living. 💕
Hi, just wanted to say that I've been watching you guys for years, and it helped me get through the years of wondering if I'd ever have kids of my own. I had a few losses in the past and now I'm finally pregnant with a healthy baby that's growing way better than I could have imagined. Thank you for being a support to us hopeful parents.
Phil,Alex and every one when your having a cruddy day or maybe questioning certain things look at Cassidy Drew she is a absolute smile on your face walking talking miracle and go look at her beginnings how she was conceived how she was born with no co arc how she got to go home to get strong for the big fight of her open heart surgery at 4 months instead of surgery at days old and at 4 months how well she did getting strong for her surgery how she did amazing in that surgery and how since that surgery has thrived thank you Alex and Phil for sharing your life Cassys' life and being a reminder of all things good and if any one hasn't seen the things I just spoke of go watch ❤
Watching your videos on growing your own food is encouraging me. We moved to Nashville area in 2022, in an apartment. Looking into growing spinach. Been watching the channel since you were a in California, for encouragement on our fertility journey. You guys have been such a blessing in my life to keep going in growing our family
Hey Kingsley 👋 what a great question and a great thing to learn about. We are in Queensland, Australia. We are tropical here. We are coming to the end of our summer. This year has been a wet summer with lots of tropical storms, cyclones and even a hurricane. Today is 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees F) and humidity is 85%. 😊
Alex, I will be starting my vegetable garden tomorrow! I am starting from seeds this year. Usually I wait until Spring is in full bloom and buy the plants from a nursery. This year, I’m up for a challenge. I live close to Gilroy, California which is the “Garlic Capital”. I’m going to try my hand at growing garlic! I will also be growing zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, butternut squash, and spaghetti squash. Happy gardening! Hi Kinsley! I live in Paso Robles, Ca. It was warm here today, at 66°. We’re getting ready for another 4 day storm that will be starting tomorrow evening. Have a great day!❤
Wonderful video! I have missed these updates. They bring joy to me in my Colorado home where the outside temp yesterday was 69 degrees. I love your gardening encouragement, and a cup of hot tea to enjoy in the Eve ings. Praying for you all to have God's blessing😘
I cannot wait to live this way! We currently have a concrete patio and have built raised planter beds and trying our second year at growing food. We are starting now!
Cleaning the kitchen before bed and I didn’t want the video to end! Loved your encouragement to just start and all the little bits of wisdom!! Loved seeing the animals and garden too. My husband and I were blessed to buy a home with 4 acres but aren’t in the position to afford homesteading yet. It’s a fixer upper too. We do have our chickens and ducks that we love and our Great Pyrenees Millie. We’re only in our late twenties so we’re trusting God will make a way for us, my husband works hard and we’re a one income family with 5 little ones 7 and under. I truly am encouraged by your videos and love seeing Jesus shine through you! ❤
We have 14 Tomatos, 4 winter squash 15 cucumber plants and 6 Pepper plants. In Massachusetts we took a chance and put our garden together 2 weeks early and it paid off :) all started in my kitchen under grow lights
Hi from South Africa, so happy you are back . I missed your videos, we are in summer and experiencing temperatures of 30°degrees Celsius, tomorrow will be 35°. God bless you all!
Kinsley, it is very hot here in Australia. I am in Western Australia and it has been very very hot here. Alex I started growing tomatoes and bell peppers this year in pots at my back door. I enjoy going out after work to water them and see how they are doing. Slow and steady.
I planted Asparagus corms last year, couldn’t harvest 1st year as you need to leave but as I got on sale I bought double and shared some with my sister and my neighbour. So this year I may get a small amount but next year I can harvest regularly and they come back so they are in a permanent bed. So excited for them. And as they are expensive to by in grocery store there is more than enough.
Teaching your children to grow food is great l am disabled so may 11 yr old has been in charge of the vege garden from very young. She loves propagation plants and sells plants at the market along with house plants. When we go for a walk she asks other gardeners if she can take cuttings.
Kensley, its 5° Celsius in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada today, ( March 17th). Which would be 41° F for you guys. Spring is coming. Also, we still have time to plant up here because its still to cold, but we are getting ready.
Thank you Alex…..I’m so excited to start planting and I’m going to do more foods this year. I normally make a oasis of flowers but I’m going to try several veggies. Please don’t leave us in the dark so long…we miss you guys
We live in the suburbs and have talked about moving to a property with 1-5 acres for a while. Every time we get close to taking the leap, one or both of us chicken out. This was just the encouragement/maybe sign from God that i needed! We need to just do it! Thank you! And I completely agree, God's probably scratching his head at us all relying on big grocery chains for all or most of our food!
Hi Kinsley! We are from Finland! Can you imagine, we have almost 1 meter of snow and we just had -30 Celsius but now luckily it's only about 0 Celsius! 😊
Hi Kinsley! It is not warm where we are. I live in Quebec and temperatures are on Celsius here. Last night, it was -22C. But climate change and an El Niño winter weather have is a pretty warm winter with higher temperatures and ice rain instead of snow. We haven’t had that little snow in more than 15 years here. I am not ready to start gardening anytime soon. But it’s perfect, I’ll be listening to your family’s vlogs and learn and prepare to grow my own garden in advance!
We still have snow on the ground so we can't plant yet...starting some inside plants soon :) and Kinsley, it was a balmy 40 degrees today but is suppose to be down to 9 by Monday.....loving Montana and it's bipolar weather this year!
Hey Kinsley we have 51°F (11°C) today so for us here in Germany it is a warm day :)) all the best to the hole family! It's so nice to see you so cheerful and happy Alex your happy dance made me smile from one ear to the other :)🥰
Your overall dance is the ABSOLUTE BEST! And I think you have inspired me to try a small garden this summer. Alex you are inspirational and thank you for taking time to share your tips and tricks. This was a GREAT UPDATE❤️ sorry about the loss of your piglet.
well we live in Australia so we are in Summer. so today is our hottest day of the week. 42'C about 108'F. super hot. but great heat for my watermelon that im growing. i have been growing veggies and fruit for 4ish years. gardening helps my mental health and gives me a break and it is great educational homeschooling activity.
Hello Kinsley it was 61 here today in northern Illinois. Yah. I loved it. It was so awesome going to you tube ( on my TV) and seeing Alex your mom. Yes Alex you are so right. I love to hear from you your Christian, wholesome fun and I learn a lot. I’m going to try a stackable. I can’t afford your fancy one but like you said if you plant nothing you get nothing. Thank you for these videos. You lighten my life make it joyful. Love y’all Denah
Hey there Kinsley! I’m in the sunshine state of Florida but it’s chilly for us here! It is 51 with a low of 48 degrees so it’s the perfect weather to cuddle up, make some good soup, and watch movies! ☺️ My fiancé and I met working at the happiest place on earth, Disney World! ☺️ Today is our six year dating anniversary and we are so excited to spend the next year wedding planning💍💗 Sending all of you so much love!
Hi Kinsley, My name is Jo and I live in Brisbane Australia. Brisbane is the capital city of the state Queensland. It's tropical weather here. So it never really gets very cold. My kids have never seen snow. But we live close to the beach or we have rainforests to hike through. Currently it is Summer time here. Today has been hot and humid. The temperature is 34 degrees Celsius (in the shade.) So that would be around 93f. There was a day, this summer, that got to 42c (107.6f) I'm looking forward to winter. During the day it never really gets colder than 16c (60.8f) To us that's a really cold day. Most of the year though, we wear summer clothes, even in winter. When it's summer for you. It will be winter for us. I hope you and your family have a great summer.
Came back to finish you vlog a day later. :) Fun to see you guys. I've been with you guys for nearly 10 years now I think. Your family grew and mine during that time. Jealous of the homestead life. So wonderful.
Love all this!! I have so many stomach issues and would love to grow some of my own food but the cost. I would need the GreenStalk growing pots but I missed the 60% off and I just can't afford them with all the doctor bills I have and other expenses. So for right now I will live growing my own food through you. Trying to hold on to Faith and I am in a very dark place and not sure if I will ever get out.
Kinsley, I live in Queensland, Australia and boy oh boy has it been hot for us this Summer. As I’m writing this, it’s 11.30am and it’s 28 degrees Celsius (just over 82 degrees Fahrenheit), which it’s actually a bit cooler today
Hi Alex, I think that the issue of getting people to grow something is so hard, as long as the shelves in the stores are full. I have broad beans and kale on my window sill now. But when I talk it over with other people, the answer is usually this: It is difficult, it is dirty, it is ugly.. Yes, life is all of those things - and humans tend to prefer comfort 🤨 I will go on growing part of my veggies and hopefully set an example.. 😘
Outside of OKC in the country and it's 60's-70's with some days in the low 80's spring is here. We just moved here from WA so trying to restart from scratch and get stuff ready. This years won't be much but super pumped for next year and doing the needed work to be ready for a gal garden!
From Kentucky author, Wendall Berry: "Participate in food production to the extent that you can. If you have a yard or even just a porch box or a pot in a sunny window, grow something to eat in it. Make a little compost of your kitchen scraps and use it for fertilizer. Only by growing some food for yourself can you become acquainted with the beautiful energy cycle that revolves from soil to seed to flower to fruit to food to offal to decay and around again. You will be fully responsible for any food that you grow for yourself, and you will know all about it. You will appreciate it fully, having known it all its life."
I’ve missed these up dates! Your gardening updates made me put up two above ground gardens last spring (in Ann Arbor, Mi) and they were AMAZING!!! Can’t wait to try it again!!
Thank you so much for update😊 sorry for your loss🐷. Yes I’m learning to garden more and have been doing a lot of herbs and learning to make and use my own beneficial tinctures. Looking for comfrey this year to add. God’s peace
Quite mild for the time of year here in Lincolnshire UK but less freezing temperatures means lots of rain and localised flooding. Love tea and coffee in equal measure and miss you posting more regularly but so happy for this update! 😊
In the UK here! It’s cold and rainy (&grey😮) but I’m drinking my coffee watching your vlog and feeling positive- thank you! I’m going to plant garlic in my garden and follow for the medicine recipe later in the year! We also have mint (lots of mint!) and 3acres of land we’re hoping to build a house on; off grid. I am eager to start planting food! We had sheep which we bred and had for food. Going to set aside an area as you explained to prepare for growing! Thank you for your positive encouragement to have a go!!!! ❤
I'm in Australia and it is summer here the temp is hot 30 -35 c where I'm and in other parts, it has been over 40 c love what you are doing in your garden
We’re in Indiana and we still have snow on the ground so our growing season is much later than yours. Also my favorite drink is chamomile tea blend with honey. Thanks for the update.
Here in VA its currently 41 at 8. We had snow twice, not a big fan of it, i think it lasted a week. It looks like it will be around 70 at the end of this month with rain.
I just ordered my Green Stalks...THANK YOU! Kinsley, I live in Kennewick, WA, and it was 52° today. Alex, you are glowing! You seem so happy and I can tell how excited you are for Spring. I've been watching you from day one and talk about you like we're friends. I couldn't be more happier for you and your sweet family. You are slayin' it on this whole homestead life. I learn so much from you and Phillip. You two are definitely relationship goals. God Bless! ❤
Love this!!! 😊I gardened with my father all my life, and I’ve had a veggie garden of my own, every year since we bought our house 10 years ago. Thing is, ground hogs have moved in and have demolished my garden two years in a row, prior to this we had a dog and he kept the pests at bay. Any tips to keep them out without having to “get rid of them”? ❤
We’re in Northeast Ohio by the Pennsylvania border. It has actually been pretty comfortable here and it has been the least amount of snow in a while. 😢😢we’re in Poland Ohio outside of Youngstown
Hey Kinsley, we live in Illinois, very close to the border of Missouri (St.Louis Mo.) It was 60°f here today but is going to drop down to the 30s tonight.
For Kensley, we live in Taranaki, New Zealand it is summer going into autumn next week, it is about 23 degrees C here at the moment, look up where we are and maybe do a video on what you found out about each location. I have been following your journey since you were little.
You guys have grown and absolutely thrived since being on you block 🫶❤️🙏 wonderful life to bring kids in. Alex please get your cat and kittens desexed ASAP. They can get pregnant at 5 months. They can have 3 litters a year. Love your updates.
Hi Kinsley, in Perth Australia we hit 46c (114.8) and have been having very similar heats for the past 3wks.. seeing you wear jackets kinda makes me feel cooler 😊
I'm in New zealand. Morning can be cold but the rest of the day is very warm at the moment. Great for playing outside and drying washing lol. But right now it's 18 degrees Celsius
Hey there Kinsley- I am near Seattle and our high today was 55°. Some of our spring flowers are popping up- so excited for spring. BTW- my cousin lives in Nashville, her kids are just a little younger than you. Her husband owns MLS Construction and she does designing for them.
It’s 30 Celsius Down Under in the Blue Mountains where I live. Suffice it to say, I can’t garden with you, but I’m taking notes for later. Peanut is precious!
I bought a small raised garden for this summer, and I have some starter seeds. I am planning on planting the seeds the middle to late March, so they will be ready to be planted outside the middle of May. I have a compost pile, and I am going to put that in the bottom and put garden soil on the top. I am hopeful for some fresh food this summer.
I’m so glad you posted this video! I’m currently trying to start a garden in my back yard, but I didn’t know where to start. I loved what you did with your garden. This gave me some ideas. 🙂
That 20mins went by way too fast 🥹 I have really missed you guys and following along with the happenings on the homestead. I have been missing my Congelliere intake so much that I have been rewatching old videos! I love your family and will take any lessons on homesteading, growing food, caring for animals etc that you are willing to provide. I am storing it in my tool belt until I can finally get some green space of my own. ❤😘
Temperature at my house is in the mid 70s and I live in Texas. I am going to start a garden soon. I have found a place that sells bulk soil with compost and topsoil mixed in for a decent price. Compared to potting soil. Not sure what I’ll plant, but it will be in raised that’s because I do live in a rental and I don’t want to tear up the ground. plus, I think my yard is mostly so it wouldn’t be very nutritious for the plants. I do have seeds that I bought last year that I was unable to use so I’ll start with those. readyready for the temperature to level out so I can get started.

Absolutely.
It’s just a new popular thing that many vloggers so called influencers seem to be doing lately.
They don’t have Brownie any longer?? What happened to Brownie??
Love listening to your stories ❤️

Hey there Kinsley! I’m in the sunshine state of Florida but it’s chilly for us here! It is 51 with a low of 48 degrees so it’s the perfect weather to cuddle up, make some good soup, and watch movies! ☺️ My fiancé and I met working at the happiest place on earth, Disney World! ☺️ Today is our six year dating anniversary and we are so excited to spend the next year wedding planning💍💗 Sending all of you so much love!
Hi Kinsley,
My name is Jo and I live in Brisbane Australia.
There was a day, this summer, that got to 42c (107.6f)
I'm looking forward to winter. During the day it never really gets colder than 16c (60.8f)
To us that's a really cold day. Most of the year though, we wear summer clothes, even in winter.
When it's summer for you. It will be winter for us.
I hope you and your family have a great summer.

Hi Kinsley, I’m in New Zealand a little town called Levin in the lower north island. I hope you have a ton of people answer your question 😊
Hi Alex, I think that the issue of getting people to grow something is so hard, as long as the shelves in the stores are full. I have broad beans and kale on my window sill now. I’m enjoying my little garden.
Alex you could talk all day and it wouldn't be enough. I love you guys and your homestead so much. ❤
I’ve missed these up dates! Your gardening updates made me put up two above ground gardens last spring (in Ann Arbor, Mi) and they were AMAZING!!! Can’t wait to try it again!!

I didn't have much luck with my stacking gardens. They did better when I laid them out. I wonder if they just weren't getting enough sun...not sure
Thank you so much for update😊 sorry for your loss🐷. Yes I’m learning to garden more and have been doing a lot of herbs and learning to make and use my own beneficial tinctures. Looking for comfrey this year to add. God’s peace
It is Summer is South Africa. 38 Degrees Celsius (100F)... It's sooooo hot
Quite mild for the time of year here in Lincolnshire UK but less freezing temperatures means lots of rain and localised flooding. Love tea and coffee in equal measure and miss you posting more regularly but so happy for this update! 😊
I literally just had a conversation with my husband a week ago about wanting to start a garden this year. 😊 I can’t wait ❤
You know I love your family ❤ and am always so happy to see you post 🙏🏻
My husband was already heading to Costco today, I hope they have some slips available. What a great tip!!!!!
I'm in a townhome and only have a patio, so I can only have plants in pots, so I think I'm going to try my best to grow some Tomatos this year! 🤞🏼
Thank you for the heads up. I got my two leaf green stalk planters today. I used your code🥰💗💓💞💕💗💓💞💕extra hearts from me , a cardiac kids mom. ❤❤❤❤❤
I keep hearing “This is My Fathers World” playing in my head during your tours.
Hi Kinsley, best wishes all the way from northern ireland UK on a bright but cold morning keep up the good work with your lovely mum.
100% ENJOYING PHIL'S EDITING!! It just adds such a special touch!

Hello I’m Jordan & I have that same disease too , 😮
Hey Kinsley, we live in Illinois, very close to the border of Missouri (St.Louis Mo.) It was 60°f here today but is going to drop down to the 30s tonight.
Who are you to tell her what to do with HER pets. Did she even say they weren’t at this point? Mind your business.
Hi Kinsley, in Perth Australia we hit 46c (114.8) and have been having very similar heats for the past 3wks.. seeing you wear jackets kinda makes me feel cooler 😊

I've watched you for years and finally have some space to grow my own garden! We are moving to TN this week :) What zone are you guys in?
I bought a small raised garden for this summer, and I have some starter seeds. I am planning on planting the seeds the middle to late March, so they will be ready to be planted outside the middle of May. I have a compost pile, and I am going to put that in the bottom and put garden soil on the top. I am hopeful for some fresh food this summer.
I’m so glad you posted this video! I’m currently trying to start a garden in my back yard, but I didn’t know where to start. I loved what you did with your garden. This gave me some ideas. 🙂

That was a great video. You guys are doing so well and are so happy
Hey Alex and Phil, here in middle TN just below you guys can't wait to garden this year with you :)
