    Just stumbled across a couple of your videos - the way that you speak of the pursuit of art, of its creation for the sake of creating, framing it as a lifestyle choice that enriches and is vital for holistic wellbeing - it’s really made me snap out of the rat race of plays, views and data the modern way of the artist has become. That’s not to say that this mindstate of clarity will persist but your words definitely will. Someone in the comments used the term prophetic - i certainly hope this comes to be.

    I would like to see a video on what to do next, after we've done everything described here in this video. Because yeah, technology got better, but the only thing that stayed the same or probably got worse is people's attention to that music, because nobody cares and nobody will. It's nearly impossible for someone to voluntarily check out your art, unless you pay them to or they get something from it (like submithub) but even then they don't care . And if your answer is you create it only for yourself because only you care, then why bother spending time and money producing and why distribute it, if I can just replay the song I wrote in my head with the best mixing and mastering that my imagination can provide, or just play it live in my bedroom for myself.
    In other words, why try to share if no one cares

    Nice to be in church again. ;) Love the message. Sure if creativity and creation of art are the goals we are truly in heaven. If streams and financial return and validation are the goals then it's kind of the opposite.

    I like your perspectives in this video. It IS a great time to be an artist but it’s up to those artists to stand out as much as they can. There is huge competition out there and once someone finds a new way to stand out uniquely with content and music, everyone else hops on that wave and it’s a constant loop. Seems like everyone is doing the same thing to promote their music

    • @jimiwmusic
      @jimiwmusic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're not kidding! At the end of the day success in the industry requires our consistent participation. It requires we use every part of the creation of art, including the promotion of it as just another creative exercise. And at the end of the day, we can't lose sight of the tremendous privilege we have to be able to create at all; if creating alone can be enough, we are unstoppable, impervious to "failure" and in touch with the real 35,000 year human story of art making on this planet which is creating art simply for our own contemplation of it. Keep working my friend!!!

    👍... 🙏 My situation and circumstances are so bleak that its absurd to describe, but the result is that I'm left alone in this room with Music except for performance maybe one or two brief and glorious times per year. This would be maddening but I know that the only way out is in. And there, my room mate reveals treasures. So I see my social value as it were a fossil in the sand and my value to Music as worthy of bearing gifts. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. But, not identifying as tough, I realize I serve Music for nothing. Could this be love? There, is something about the nature of value that transcends value that we attribute. Consider the Creator, who made stuff we'll never know or give credit for, but there it is! 😃 The motive force of creation creates nothing but value, but then there's this audience thing...

    It's just like you say it. I still remeber the moment when I got my first interface, microphone and studio monitors. I said something like "Now I can just bang out music all the time!" and instantly felt more free.
    Since then I already made and released a lot of songs and it's always a fantastic feeling to get stuff finished. All you need is some drive and ambition.

    Let's see- i have no money (songs and poems are worth ~$0), i can't find a drummer (there is no music scene, and it's extremely rare to find someone foolish enough to devote their life to a profession that won't keep you from being homeless), i make great songs that don't get heard, and write poems in a time where no one i've ever met reads poems. I could go on but this is actually getting depressing. "Greatest time in history to be an artist." No. It might be the greatest time in history to lie. The greatest time in history to propagate vague optimism to large numbers of people, while things get worse and depression and suicide rates climb indefinitely.

    You have some valid points but you know that your father came from and era of real players .
    And song writing was a group of real players sitting around together working songs out musical and lyrical
    You watch any videos of the Beatles or stones in the studio and you'll see this .
    This was the way you wrote songs .
    Then you road tested your songs in live gigs on community radio etc to get a feel of the reaction of the audience's if they needed rewrite or changes etc if they completely tanked you shelves them .
    Now you have millions of people calling themselves musicians can't even play and instruments using a computer program to generate beats n parts to the song etc .
    The most important part of music has been taken away the human soul .
    It's estimated there are thousands n thousands songs uploaded everyday most of them never heard of complete rubbish .
    You also have mainly in the rap n hip hop community using bots to boast there profiles etc
    The whole streaming system is much more corrupt then the old music industry .
    So mate Musician for 40 years I have to disagree with this one .
    If your not a real musicians or vocalist you don't belong in the music industry .
    This generation is killing the industry and the current streaming model is a huge failure

    • @nancetheDanceVixen

      Yes! And so many from the younger generations will never know how that creative process happens. Too many self proclaimed “artists” who know how to press buttons to process sounds, getting instant results w/o spending TIME practicing on an instrument or vocal training.

    • @jimiwmusic
      @jimiwmusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear you but, what you are saying is only partially true in my estimation. There are so many young artists who are out there that are not only carrying on the tradition of what came before them but also pushing the boundaries of what music can be. Look at Jacob Collier, Look at Knower, Look at Domi and JD beck. The technological advancement that has brought us here is a double edged sword. While the sword has leveled the playing field and made it possible for independent music to be produced affordably and distributed globally it has also nicked backwards and created a bunch of crap. That can't be argued. I'll go there, but I won't die on the hill of "everything now is crap, everything back then was better." With all respect, I think it's only half true, and only through a certain narrower lens.

    • @zee4798
      @zee4798 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jimiwmusic I know there are so good young artist out there but very few break through coz the major labels and the rap and hip hop community is flooding the system with bots .
      Also allowing third party sharks to create song list then rip artist off charging money is just completely wrong .
      The system is a complete failure

    • @jimiwmusic
      @jimiwmusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes there's definitely some serious fuckery afoot haha. I won't argue on that. But I remain bullish on humanity and bullish on musicians. A wholesale rejection of all to it is certain death!

    • @zee4798
      @zee4798 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jimiwmusic you want your industry back fight for it and your young can't put an old head on young shoulders .
      When you have been around long enough you will understand music and art works in circles.
      This generation has been given a big gift from the ones who went before you and you can't even hear it .
      Many of the songs mainly the 70s are more relivent today then in the 70s on what's happening in the world none of you are listening to lyrics

    I grew up in a time where technology was just starting to create more autonomy for the artist. Previous to that I had to pay money to go into the recording studio at which I knew nothing about recording on my own. However, with all of this technology and all this ability to thrive, what artist Miss is the fact that you must get out into the public and perform live as often as possible because becoming a content creator is truly not enough and it rarely equates to the live stage on its own.

    • @jimiwmusic
      @jimiwmusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's the truth! I've been at it professionally for a good 15 years now. Playing live, in bands for hire, in wedding bands, in church bands in my own band etc has provided me with the bread to keep going, by the grace of god. The stage is also the place where the most musical growth happens. It's an amazing teacher. Often the adventures we have as we go out into the world with our music become great stories and fuel for the songs we will write. It's a pirates life, but it sure beats waiting tables!
