I was watching on tv when soon after lunch Thommo and Alan Turner collided, busting Thommo's shoulder. Skull was also correct in that Thommo had built up to top pace, and the Pakistani batsmen were wishing they were somewhere else. Both he and the great DK Lillee bowled huge amount of 8 ball overs.It was a precursor of a gruelling summer for both of them, many overs between them. Max "Tangles " Walker did much the same. For some obscure reason Australia kept selecting Garry "Gus" Gilmour even though he was patently unfit and very out of form. Hence he bowled scarcely,and went for plenty. Much more could be written from this 76/77 season, the last before World Series Cricket...

Now 82 is usually nothing to brag about but under those circumstances it sure was.

when he was on the ABC calling the cricket, his first season was full of his snickering and crazy laugh, as he told the stories whilst providing excellent, thoughtful commentary, BUT..i have to admit i was one of them- his constant laughing as he told the stories, and in response to others, was really weird and off putting. you really have to hear his laugh to understand how irritating it is/was. anywhoo, the ABC put him on the radio for the next few seasons and gone was his laugh and snicker...even no gaffaws or chortles..all gone, and i have to say, thank goodness. listening to him relate past situations to current, and postulating about what's going on in the game..great commentary. his commentary is similar to that of the Kiwi commentator, Ian Smith - who i'd rank as the best commentator in the game.
