I always loved the PSP. It absolutely blew my mind that you could get essentially PS2 quality games on the go. One of the best portable systems for sure!

Adore THUG 2 Remix. I've been playing games since the 80s, and I can remember only twice being left speechless when first playing games that signaled the beginning of a new console generation. One was playing the original Halo on the launch day of the Xbox, and the other was playing THUG 2 on the the launch day of the PSP. The fact that there was a handheld game that looked that good and played that well absolutely blew my mind.
This should've been a "Did you know?" in the video, but did you know that en entire rip of THUG2 Remix is located on the disc of the PS2 version of Shrek Superslam? Apparently, they did that to fill up space on the disc. Weird, right?
Can you use the ISO and play it on PS2? Lol I googled it and didn't see a whole lot more info. Outside of apparently PS1 Tigger Woods 99' has an episode of South Park on the disk for the same reason.
@@suzyL420 It's a PSP dump, and during the later half of the PS2's life, PSP games were commonly ported to the PS2, so I wouldn't doubt it's ability to run.

11:52 In more ways than one, probably. On top of the the textured 3D models, the GBA also needs to play the streamed music, probably decompressing it on the fly so that they could fit on the cartridge. That’s likely what broke the camel’s back for the hardware and caused the slowdown in the game

Yeah it's one of those things that you'd think appear as tips during loading screens but nope. No manual, no chance of knowing.

One of the best PSP games ever. I remember being young and just in ultimate disbelief of how good it was compared to Xbox/PS2. Going to my friend’s house and playing online mambo combo matches. Good times.
Well since THUG 2 Remix came out a bit after the original THUG 2, there was definitely room for extra content, it's just a shame that the PSP was somewhat overshadowed by the DS, and furthermore, PSP versions of console games were held back a great deal due to the lack of a second analog stick and two extra shoulder buttons, but how they got the game to work with a limited control scheme is commendable.
Apparently Vicarious Visions' Jet Set Radio GBA version came out around a year before THUG2, so I'd assume there was some groundwork for graffiti tags built into the engine by that time.

Great Video dude. I never played the origional Underground 2 and have only played 4, HD, and American Wasteland, so when I got remix and found out the absolute mountain of content they packed into a PSP game i was pretty damn impressed. Excited for Sk8Land, only ever heard good things and it looks crazy impressive for a DS game.

The fact that the tony hawk games exist in the tony hawk universe and are acknowledged in THAW, THUG, and THUG2 makes me really question the tony hawk lore and how the games fit in the universe, are the games real events that happened, are they in alternate universes? Are the games just video games inside the series and THAW is the universe where the events of the game are real and the other games prior are just videogames inside the universe?
There's a popular joke about this but I think the pro skater series is unrelated since it doesn't have a "story", but the underground games and proving ground are the same universe. While american wasteland is seperate in it's own world.

the PSVita definitely handles THUG2 Remix better when it comes to controls. It's perfect
I just wish there was a way to turn off the right analog stick cause sometimes I find it gets in the way. But THUG 2 Remix is one of my favorite games on my Vita. I sometimes forget I have 100s of other games to play cause sometimes I find myself zoning out on Thug 2 Remix. Its the best portable Tony Hawk's game hands down.
I put SO many hundreds of hours into THUG 2 remix. I regret selling my psp only for this game alone. Nothing like having a full console experience on the go back then
With the Big Drop landing I kinda did by accident XD then when I realised what I did I tried it a second time that's when I found out how to do it. XD I wasn't sure if you knew or not lol! Loved the video man Its surprising how a game that's the same can be much better in terms of content etc. :D

Remix was my main experience with underground 2, was basically as good as the real thing
I downloaded this and played it in full on my phone with an 8bitdo controller. Was a lot of fun.
I have underground 2 remix on psp and love it! In fact, I got it from my cousin a while back and got to buy a psp for it a few months ago and can now also play several other hand me down games from him.

What was especially weird about THUG2 GBA was that Eric Sparrow was alot more of a nice guy in this version and is even giving you objectives in Skatopia. Also Nigel Beaverhausen is nowhere to be found.
I have never played the console version of THUG2, but I only played the PSP version and I could not stop playing it back then.

Watching the footage of THUG 1 & 2 on GBA gave me uncomfortable flashbacks to being stuck somewhere I didn't want to be as a kid, wishing I was playing the console versions of those games instead. Remix was great though
The gameboy versions of the underground games were so fun as a kid even tho I had the ps2 versions I loved taking these on the go
Underground 2 on the gba is an okay experience, *in fact I was playing the game earlier this year, and pretty much stopped once I found pro skater 3* I was actually baffled by the character models, but it did give me a laugh, as for the soundtrack, despite them being like 15 to 20 second loops, they did sound as decent as real music on a gba goes, considering it's in a tiny cartridge, they could've ended up as midi tracks, or something reassembling it, and Here's a real bummer for me, I played the classic mode in underground 2, upon completing it...for some reason, my save file was gone!!!! 😭😭😣😣 and I was so close to beating it.*

I find that the Thug2 Remix levels are better than most of the original's levels. Atlanta and Kyoto are some of my favorites in the entire series, so I end up playing that more often.
Kyoto is really good and I enjoy Santa Cruz. Atlanta is pretty massive and I wasn't as big on the goals there and I never liked the casino in THAW. For me, it's more just having THUG 2 on the go that will have me coming back to this one in the future.

My first TH game ever was THOW2 on the GBA... At the time I loved it and always wanted to get the home console version

11:30 I bet the reason is the licensed soundtrack. The Game Boy Advance's audio has no dedicated hardware, so a continuous streaming soundtrack is causing the issues. (It's probably also an MP3 considering we're on cartridge, and MPEG decoding is also taxing.)
Kind of makes me sad knowing the PSP version of underground 2 is the definitive way to play the game. Mainly because the console version never got the same treatment.
Yeah it's pretty tragic, but at least can be played on a TV with a dualshock 4 via an unlocked PSTV

Hey Jak, I just wanted to tell you that Vicarious Visions did something unbelievable before the N. Sane Trilogy, as they developed FIVE versions of the Spider-Man 3 game, the Wii, GBA, DS, PSP, and PS2 versions! Is that talent or what!
I have the gba version of Spider-Man 3, it's okay *although mysterio's menace blows that game out of the water, and ultimate Spider-Man wasn't too shabby either 🙂❤ mysterio's menace all the way, a very good game that I say vicarious visions outdone themselves.*

Fun Fact: 4 Stages from Thug 2 Remix (Kyoto, Santa Cruz & Las Vegas) are recycled in American Wasteland and the Collector Edition of American Wasteland brought back Atlanta
i played THUG 2 remix alot on the PSP emulator known as PPSSPP and yes it is also a major shame that it never got a tv system port oh well im looking forward to what i belive is the better Sk8te land story wise on DS
That would absolutely be the best way to play it, on emulator with a PS2 controller plugged in. Just a shame that all the cutscenes are broken as hell.

I think I mentioned this during last Hawktober, but I used to have a 2in1 combo GBA cart with THUG1 and Kelly Slater Pro Surfer. I never knew what the fuck I was doing in either game XD. Ah good times, might just have to emulate that now.

Damn, I used to have a PSP, and I would play the crap out of that thing with a copy of MX vs ATV Untamed...but if I had Underground 2 Remix, man, that thing may have been in danger of wearing out eventually haha

These were such fun little GBA games, owned the 2nd Underground for a while, and even though these aren't as good as the console versions, they are still well done demakes, and I can imagine back when it was new new, that it was a blast. Hey though, at least the PSP is Hella capable for a more complete experience, even though I wish some extras was still there...
Oh, shit, I had forgotten that Vicarious not only remade Crash, but they also were behind some of the downports TH titles! And the good ones! Shit, can't wait for September!

6/10 is a good score but when the base of Underground 2 doesn't quite meet the 7's and 8's of Pro Skaters and the original Underground, it's unrealistic to put it any higher given the sloppy presentation and weaker control setup.
I understand, I think. It's clear you have a lot of respect for the franchise, and the standards you've set for it are indicative of that. You're tough on it, but only because you know the series is capable of great things.

I no longer have a psp, but thug2 remix is hella fun, one of the best games for the system.
I actually don't mind the ds games though, they did enough random fun things like the design stuff, and I find the ds more comfortable for portable stuff :)
If you have an android phone or a jail broken iPhone you can play psp games through an emulator
