#traveldiariesHall Of Fame: The Attractions Inside the Leh Hall Fame consists of three wings: The War Museum, The War Cemetery - Shaurya Sthal, and the War Memorial. The exhibits in the Hall of fame Leh focuses on the multifaceted experiences of soldiers in the Kargil war. The Hall of fame Leh is a wonderful way for Indians to explore the history of the Indo-Pak war. The museum also gives information about the numerous awards and honors that are given through it, as well as the background of some of the men who have made the largest sacrifices in our nation’s history.
Sangam: Sangam is the confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers in Ladakh. Its 35km from Leh and its on the Leh-Srinagar Highway. The Zanskar River is coming from the Zanskar Valley and the this is the starting point of the Famous Chadar Trek. The trek route was initially used by the locals to reach Leh during the winter months. During Medical emergency they walk on the frozen zanskar river with with medical teams and in recent past this route has become the most challenging treks in Leh-Ladakh.
Alchi is regarded as one of the most important Buddsist centers in LAdakh. The Alchi Monastery dates back to nearly 1000 yrs old and so the effect of the Tibetan influence can be seen in the local culture. Lets hear what the local monk tells us about the monastery…
From Sangam we went to the Magnetic Hill which is definitely a great place to explore.
    WANLA:
The village of Wanla is located about 70 kilometres (airline) west of Leh at the confluence of the Valpola River and the Shillakong River.
With no inkling of how the day would pan out, we had somehow ended up (by evening) in a little hamlet by the name of Wanla to spend the first night after landing in Leh.
Beautiful, barren landscape Wanla Gompa is an ancient and historic monastery believed to date back 1,000 years to the time of Richen Zangpo, who was one of the greatest translators of Buddhist texts.
The Gompa stands high above the village of Wanla on a precipitous crag, 12 km down a narrow road that branches off the highway near Lamayuru. The drive to the Gompa from Lamayuru is incredibly scenic,
The main temple at Wanla is the Sumtsek, with three niches housing giant standing images, similar to those you can see at Alchi Gompa. The lighting is almost non-existent, if your camera struggles in low light then you may just have to miss out on any decent photographs here, and of course no flash must ever be used in such places
Old murals adorn the walls, in wonderful condition for their age. A mention must be made of the Alchi Association, who have recently been restoring and conserving the temple.
The Sumtsek temple is is one of the earliest known Drigung Kagyu prayer chambers to have survived in Ladakh. It’s an immensely atmospheric room, one of the highlights of my second visit to the Ladakh region. Here you will almost certainly be alone, no vast swathes of visitors filling the space and disturbing the peacefulness of the experience
Wanla is a sub-monastery of Lamayuru which provides a caretaker monk responsible for daily rituals and for granting access to the temple.
