Cabrillo beach is probably the only consistent wind spot in LA area. Going south there is little wind except for rare days. The Palos Verdes hill makes the wind accelerate so on normal summer afternoons you can find 15-20 mph. On clearing winds 25 mph or more. Back then we needed white caps to go out, now days I see guys sailing in 10 mph winds with boards 3 ft wide and they can hold down giant 7-8 m sails. I am not sure about north. We did'nt sail much north of Cabrillo except for Rio Vista but thats a river. I remember days like this video where 2-3 guys were out and in the troughs all you see is water and on the peaks you can see over the parking lot into the harbor. Twice I broke out side on days like this. Once a sailboat drug me around the breakwater. Could not board the boat cause the waves were big enough to expose the rudder and prop. The other time was late and no one saw me, so I have to roll up the sail and boom and paddle in. By the time I got in it was dark and no one was in the parking lot, I just made it to the little jetty before the breakwater.
@@Paiadakine thanks for your answer. I live in Sardinia, so plenty of spots and frequent strong winds here. Let me know if you get around here. Been in LA a few days and loved the place.
very nice spot... i was wondering if windsurfing in California was possible! Do you have strong winds often?
