    Awesome job painting your mini. Starting to paint minis again, so started watching your videos to brush up on painting. I see you are using a redgrass wet pallet, no your ceramic tile. I enjoyed the video.

    Love it that pattern makes it 10 times better. I think his armor is just huge enough for fantasy.

    I think adding the white to the tunic was a fantastic idea, it really gave the model more life.

    Holy crap, your brush control is surgical. You just non-chalantly brush the most critical parts of the mini.
    When i paint those parts i have a death grip on the mini and i anchor and support my brush hand carefully because if i slip up, boom, a hour or two is wasted.

    • @ColonelSandersLite
      @ColonelSandersLite 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I know this is getting a bit older, but hopefully you will find this helpful:
      The death grip? Put some effort into overcoming that. It directly causes increased hand shake. It also causes you to fatigue more quickly, which increases hand shake even more. It also dulls your perception of the "feel" that's transmitted through your brush and the miniature, further reducing control.
      When I put in the effort to overcome that same problem, my brush control improved dramatically. Not only did this have a beneficial effect on my execution of virtually every technique, but it also led to a substantial improvement in my speed.

      @TheRunesmythe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to second the reply from ColonelSandersLite; I know its instinctive to really want to lock down on your grip so that you hold everything as still as possible, but its actually counterproductive and will increase the likelihood that you're going to start shaking. It won't be easy to overcome, but next time to sit down to paint and you grip your miniature and your brush, concentrate on keeping everything loose and nice and relaxed; you'll be amazed at how much better the process goes when you do this.

    Regarding white, I've found that off-white as the base, then you can actually get a highlight with pure white gives a really good result.

    That silver acrylic looks like real metal!! What kind of paint and brand is that?? I love that so much.

  • @TheRunesmythe

    So I have to say, I am not fond of non-metallic metal looks (its just a personal, aesthetic choice) because of the highly cartoony look it has unless pulled off well. I think you did something interesting here, trying to mix that in with true metallic metals and it definitely gave his armor a very distinctive, unique look; actually, it kind of reminded me in a way of some of the suits of armor from 1981 Excalibur movie.
    Something I think is kind of cool about the Pathfinder line of miniatures is that most, if not all, of them are based on artwork from the various books and this is one of them although I don't think you really get a sense of his size in the artwork; he's got to be pushing max listed height for humans in Pathfinder. If I'm remembering correctly, he belongs to the Knights of Ozem stationed at Lastwall; a fort constructed on the border of a region that's been infused with the Abyss called the Worldwound. I was looking at the standard colors for the order and I have to say, yours are much better in my opinion (here's a picture of their normal colors if you're interested: www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Pathfinder/latest/60160); the final look of the color scheme definitely captured that whole noble warrior vibe. You should tackle this guy next; www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Pathfinder/latest/60111#detail/60111_w_1 . It would be interesting to see what you do with him.

    Another great tutorial! I love the look of the Vallejo Metal colors. I have all of the Model Air metallics and like them, but I'm thinking of adding the Metal colors. Is there a big enough difference to justify getting the full line, considering I have the Model Air metallics plus some Reaper & P3 ones? I'm not too sure.

    Very nice tutorial. I like the paint thickness explanations. I'd like just a bit more closeups on the miniature. And a question for you: which palette are you using? If it is a wet palette, how much water do you use on your palette and on your brush to prevent your paints to turn too watery?

      This is what I was painting while reviewing the wet palette. I have to stop using it because the prototype has a bad leaking problem because there was no seal.

    Looks awesome! I have yet to pick up some Pathfinder miniatures to paint, but was looking at some the other day. Was this model pre-painted? I don't have much luck painting pre-painted models, maybe I am doing something wrong. Is there some sort of trick doing it?

    • @TheRunesmythe
      @TheRunesmythe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To my knowledge, none of the Reaper Pathfinder figures in either Bones or white metal, are pre-painted; they do offer a pre-painted line but its called something different. As for painting pre-painted miniatures, its most likely do to the thick, semi-gloss paint they use on them; it glops up the detail and, because its got a semi-gloss finish, additional paint has a hard time sticking to it.

    I'm sure you figured this out by now (Jan 2nd 2020), but... *NEVER* put metallic paints on a wet-pallet. Metallic paints almost always have 'metallic flakes' in them (obviously). They are "hydrostatic"? Is that the word? Where they are drawn towards water...meaning DOWN, through your contact paper and into the sponge/water. In short order you will start to contaminate all other paints in your collection via the simple act of transfer from pallet to paint, to brush.

    A paladin with a yellow stripe down his back? That's just asking for random encounters to spin out of control.

  • @TheRealScience86
    @TheRealScience86 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question from a newbie painter - I've noticed that when I put a matte clear on at the end, it dulls all the metallic paint so that it just looks basically grey. What am I doing wrong? or How can I avoid this problem?
    Also, what is this mini made from - is it resin, plastic, or something else?

    • @acrylicchemist1432
      @acrylicchemist1432 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheRealScience86 the mini is either plastic or metal. As for the matte finish, it will dull your metallic paints. If you don't like the look, thin out you metal paint and reapply over the parts you want shiny. Happy painting!

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Metal. You can use brush on matt varnish just on certain areas if you prefer.
