Our first real day let loose by ourselves on the tidal rivers surrounding the nene, the original plan was to start on the canals and work our way up to the rivers, so this is a big test. we start at Peterborough in our new houseboat and work our way over to march on our off grid adventure clueless but willing to learn new boaty ways

Wow! First journey and your going through the Middle Levels to Salters Lode lock (your first tidal experience) then Denver. Ideally moor at the EA Moorings but if all else fails you can 'wild moor' - just have your hammer and pins ready. As new boaters the most important thing to learn is NOT to travel faster than 4mph max! Always slow down to tick-over when passing a stationary boat or where ducks/moorhens etc are nesting because your wake won't do either any good. We are moored just beyond Ely at the Upware Marina - although you will turn to starboard down the Old West before then on your journey to St Neots. You are doing great and I'll give you a wave if we see you on the Great Ouse!
Yes we try to moor at Ea mooring whenever we can, sometimes we’ve kept going in hopes for another one only to realise it’s creeping up to dusk and we still need to find a place to moor 😂 yes it seamed like quite the adventure though a tad nerve racking as we’re so new to it all, so far so good though, a few stressful parts too, we’ve learnt over the past days that taking your time is the best for everyone, oh amazing we did pass through Ely we’re just a bit behind with the vlogs, give us a wave Jill we love how friendly most boaty people are, best of luck to yourself on your own adventure hope to see you soon 😀

Hi guys,wish I had known you was coming to March I live there I would have brought you a drink or two ,you sure have pick a hard trip for your fist one the outwell upwell canals so narrow and no water, Denver slice mmm not a easy choice going on the the Ouse tidal water ,should be interesting trip ,

Bless you John, thanks that’s very sweet off you, yes the trip definitely had it’s scary parts especially as a first time boater, there were moments I thought maybe we had bitten of a bit to much, but generally it all went smoothly, the tides were manageable, and we did get stuck a few times in shallow water so there are tricky parts,the people are so friendly, it’s an amazing way off life, I can’t recommend it enough, I’m sure there will be many problems but we just see it as part of the adventure 😃👌

Great to see you finally cruising on your own boat. My advice would be to do a Helmsman course. We did one after hiring boats for about 18 years and we still learnt a lot of useful information.
We would love to do one and have always said we would, we have learnt a hell off a lot this week but there’s so much to take in, thanks for your advice Gary , such an exciting new adventure

Really nice boat. You can moor anywhere you can get a spike in on rivers. Have you got a fire because you have the same boiler as me and it uses a 13kg bottle a week. That's £35. I use the fire in winter and the boiler for hot water when the engines not running. I have to turn all the radiators off to do that. Good luck and see you on the cut.
That’s good to know thanks Will, oh is it the same?? It seams to work really well and we haven’t run out yet, that seams like quite a lot a week, is that because there an older type?? we do have a burner but haven’t tried it yet, and the heaters are going to be taken out for know as they were classed as dangerous, thanks again can’t wait to see you on the cut

Definitely buddy, that sounds like a cracking idea, it would probably take us a few days to get to Ely though maybe more, it’s a slow old process haaa , we will definitely be doing a moving in party once we have her all ready for moving into watch this space😘👌👍

Thank you, we did do a tour of the boat when we viewed her but it had all the sellers stuff in it, we will be doing a tour off her again once we have got her ready for ourselves, thanks again
Get yourself a Nicholson canal guide for the area you are on....eventually you can get the set for all the network.....as you do each canal..s..
Yes we have one ready for when we start the canals, currently we’re on the Ouse so there doesn’t seam to be a Nicholson guide to that area, there are others that are maybe worth looking into, thanks for your comment 😀

Please don't feed bread to ducks, swans, geese etc it is not good for them causes digestive problems. Purchase some proper duck food. Enjoyed your vlog good luck on the rest of your trip.
