After years of dealing with moles, I’ve developed an effective process for eliminating them. In this video, I review available options, including deterrents, poisons, gassing, and trapping. I also show the many types of traps I’ve used and explain the pro’s and cons of each. Finally, I show how to set up my most effective traps in a real-world mole-trapping scenario.

Was watching the video while checking my mole traps and just caught one. My yard is surrounded by prarie and timber so moles are terrible! I've caught 4 so far this year! I have 6 yard dog scissor style traps.
They seem to do the job and are very easy to set.
I have tried mole/grub granules and I even over applied without any change in mole activity. I even put castor oil on the yard and way overdosed that as well without a change in mole activity. Buy the yard dog traps and forget all the other garbage!

Looking online, it appears that the YardDog trap is of the same design as the Wire Tek trap I showed. I agree this design makes for one of the better traps; I use it whenever I have a visible tunnel and have caught a lot of moles with it.

    Hello,
I’m 18 and have a little mole catching business… I use a combination of trapline and wiretek traps. Lately it’s been taking me a lot longer than usual to get catches. Lots of moles are getting under the wiretek without setting it off.
A customer recently gave me some cinch traps for free and I’ve gotten one catch in probably about 9 sets.
I’m in Texas so the soil is different from house to house.
I’d love to hear your take on

If they're getting under the wiretek trap, it could be either it's not being set deep enough into the tunnel or the trap is too difficult to trigger and the moles find it easier to just dig deeper instead of pushing up completely to trigger the trap. The triggers are hard to set off on these and can become sticky with dirt and rust, so these traps have to be kept clean and lubricated before each use. It might even need to be sanded or filed down a bit to keep the trigger components working smoothly.
My best advice to improve the catch rate with the cinch traps is to make sure you're setting them as deeply as possible into the tunnel and ensure the tunnel section is reasonably straight. If there is a sharp turn near the trigger, the moles often dig around the trigger instead of trying to push it out to trigger the trap.
Also, realize nothing is going to work 100% of the time; some moles seem to have a knack for evading the traps more than others. This will be difficult for customers to understand, but it's how it is.
      Hope this helps.

      Very helpful!
Where would I lubricate the wireteks and what should I use? I’ve never thought about any of that to be honest.
And where would it need sanding down? That’d be a great video idea but I wonder if it would be in demand lol

it amazes me when people find artificial issues with natural ecology, and turn to polluting their ecosystem and only looking at the short term. go back to school.
