Great Video. I have been watching your videos since I pulled out my vintage Boomerang and Thunder Dragon for restoration. My Thunder Dragon has a Kyosho motor in it which I pulled the decal off when I was a kid ( only knew it was Kyosho from the bell end). Been trying to identify it. From this video it seems to be a Lemans 240ST.
Had a Tamiya Grasshopper as my first ever car and immediately upgraded it to a 360 ST. It was real common at our local track to use in "production" class on dirt off road. The RC10 dominated stock class ran mostly Reddy or Yokohoma stock motors with the timing advanced. Didn't know anything about motors at age 12 back then. The number on the box was all I knew. I assumed 360 was better than 240. :-)
The older 1980's vintage 480 series motors had that really cool looking anodised front plate. It seems the newer models just have a regular one-piece steel can without the alloy front plate. Another unusual feature of the 480's is that they have a skewed (or slightly twisted) armature stack. This made them smoother and faster. than contemporary motors with a straight stack. I think many people wouldn't be aware of this feature unless they have opened up and disassembled their motor for some reason. Trivia note: The numbering of the motors (240/480 etc) represented the expected run time in minutes when using a 1200maH 7.2v NiCad pack
Thanks for sharing, I absolutely love the Kyosho motors, I've been inadvertently collecting these myself over the years.. If any pop up for cheap I end up buying them, I've got about 9 or 10 in various condition
Very nice collection , did njoy this video clip . Still have two of these nice Kyosho motors among my RC car spares . Did use my 480 Gold in my good ol´ Scorpio I bought back in the 80´s , my Scorpio is running on Ezrun brushless and ESC combo now . Then I have the 550 style monster truck motor 360 Gold I still use in my Marui Big Bear I bought back then . Do drive my modern RC cars most of the time , but it´s still fun to take my two oldtimers out fer a spin in between . . Be Well & Stay Safe . . . :O) .
Another motor collectible motor was the motor in the original RC10 buggy. The motor was actually made by Yokomo but was very competitive right out of the box. You can find several versions, but the most valuable are the ones that came in the very first RC10.
Strange how they can be attractive to look at and collect isn’t it. I remember (as a kid) getting a motor from a big RC show in the mid/late 80’s and I chose it based on the look of the can art lol. Just wish I could recall what it actually was. May have been a Kyosho but don’t recognise it there but sure it had ‘stock’ on there in some context. Came in a motor tub too.
Back in 1986 I had a new Tamiya Frog with Lancia Rally wide wheels and a Kyosho Le Mans green 480T motor in. What a beast that was. Would love to recreate that one day.
Very nice. Mega motors are pretty common around here but the lemans are hard to find. I remember reading somewhere that the LeMans 360ST and the Mega Monster 360 are actually the same motor.
Totally agree on the Le Mans precision High Speed. Had a Kyosho Triumph with 8.4v battery, Novak ESC and that motor. Really fast, comparable to reasonably fast brushless set-up. Also have a mint, boxed 240S. Beatiful motors all of them.
When it came to the brush motors stock class was 27 turn no timing bushings super stock class was fixed rimming bushing usually 20 to 25 single wind mod motors where all bearings adjustable timing and you could get hand wound or machine wound. And what the 12x2 ment 12 turn double wire wind which had more torque at the same speed vers the 12x1 for example. Back in the day hand wind motors where it was at
Hi I am from America. I have been thinking about getting back into RC racing. I have an old Tamyia Grasshopper that was modified back in the late 80's. I was wondering what motor I had ran last in it. It is a Kyosho Le Mans 600e. I have the original box, plastic holder and instruction sheet for that motor. I paid something like $28 dollars for the motor back in 1987. I usually won most races with it after some time to get all of the bugs out of the car. That was with the Nicad battery and the mechanical speed controller. I have another carpet racing car that was Frankensteined together and it has the Kyosho Purple Mega Outlaw motor in it. The Mega motor came with the carpet racing car. Until now I didn't know anything about it. I had to turn the speed controller down to run that car on the local carpet track, with the Mega motor. The 600e with the timing turned up would eat the battery up in the Grasshopper in about 3 minutes. LOL
I still remember that I bought the 18x2 2wd Offroad in the mid 90's for a Tamiya Lunch Box that later I started to use it in a Team Associated RC-10. Not sure if I still have it i know kept a few motors on an toolbox that is at a barn on my dads house. Not sure if I gave it away when I moved to the states 15 years ago. I didn't know that at this age others are still buying this pieces of rc history. To me that motor performed well but i always liked speed and it was not that fast. However I would say it was about 35% faster than a stock motor that came with the rc kits.
Still have both my Paved Oval and Outlaw motors. Was never that impressed with the Outlaw. I remember the Mega series as a kid. Loved the display case with them because of the cool colours and graphics. Never before or since have a series of motors had such a cool look. We used to refer to them as the "Bon-Bon" series because of the candy-like colour scheme.
I have several different Kyosho motors. I just bought a Kyosho 240ST for my Kyosho Maxxum FF car. The Kyosho Maxxum FF is a terrible car but very collectible. It was a front wheel drive off road buggy. I also have a few other Kyosho motors new in the box. I really like the aluminum end bells on these motors. I also have a Kyosho Mega motor too. I was wondering if these motors might become collectible.
I found my old Kyosho Inferno 10 vintage ! 4x4 RC car last year in my mum's garage. True classic, will have to see if it still runs. Along with that found a few Kyosho motors. 2No. Le Mans 240ST motors. 1No. Le Mans 360 ST, 1No. Le Mans 360 PT, and a Parma K stock. So any of these worth collecting ?
Wow nice collection. I thought I had a problem with collecting Kyosho stuff. Your channel is doing me a massive favour. Every time the wife rolls her eyes at my growing collection I just point her in the direction of your channels. Makes me look really restrained. For me the only Kyosho motor that tops the 360 gold for looks is the Spa240 WS. They are beautiful looking motors. Shame I have hidden mind in a optima mid where I cannot be seen. Not sure if you know or not but the Le Mans 240ST and the Mega motor outlaw stock 22x1 are the same motor. Kyosho just swapped the label around 89/90 to fit their new branding.
Excellent collection. Wished I kept my 480 motors from the 80s. I do have my 480 gold on my Optima Pro. How much do you think the 480 gold is worth ? And the Optima Pro without the motor ?
@@RCKickschannel I am unloading my Kyosho Optima Pro with the 480Gold motor if you know anyone who is interested. I posted it on the TamiyaClub forums.

Hi 😊 new to the channel and I really enjoy watching your videos. I have recently bought two of the kyosho legendary series, ”turbo optima” and ”turbo scorpion” which engine do you recommend for them? Preferably Kyosho engines. I have a Le mans 240st which currently is fit on my 80s Kyosho Rocky 4WD which is quite fast and would like something similar to the new ones but I find it hard to know what to go for, so if you have any suggestions I would be very glad 😊 cheers and thanks for a great channel.
@@prophetate I think you can see me fit one in my Tomahawk video. Its a stunning motor but wow the price will make your eyes water. A fantastic motor for the collection mind and I always say, never get into collecting Kyosho motors. LOL
@@RCKickschannel yes I saw that clip, love the rims on the Tomahawk 😊 haha yeah but not only are they good they look stunning 😊 so it should be the 240s 15,5t for the optima and 19,5t för the Scorpion if I understood you correctly
After 30 years I Found my vintage Turbo Optima Mid SE with its Le Mans 240st motor. Motor squeals terribly on attempting to spark it back up to life. Either brushes have fuzed onto things over the years or the bearings have seized. Any advise on getting it back to life without doing any damage?
Where did you get those black motor displays? I had the mega motor 360 set in my USA 1 back in the day...they weren't bad motors. Sadly they didnt fit in clodbusters cause of the extra 550 length
Hi thanks for another great video. Do you know how I would identify the model of the motor if the sticker has been removed. I think is a Mega Motor. I was lucky enough that it came with my Mid.
Hi gavin. Great video. Are you looking for an Ultima for your channel. I am selling my vintage one as I am trying to find another project. It is nearly all original bar some hardware and tyres/wheels. The body is used looking but serviceable. The chassis is in great condition and has original kyosho gold's, a le mans 480t motor and original uj driveshafts. Let me know if interested. Thanks
