fun fact: the cabbage wings rapidly flashing as they flap on the screen has resulted in this episode being pulled from french television because of the fact it caused over 450 epilepsy attacks
I think I have mild epilepsy and it hurt a bit when that happened but no much it mostly hurts when there is a lot of contrast which happens when there is a small continuing patter like stripes or dots and the 2 colours are close to opposite, light and dark, or saturated and unsaturated
love how every Australian knows this even though it was made by French peeps, its like every other tv company was like no and Australia was like Aus: moving fruit and veggies! exactly what kids want to see
Imagine singing "SOUPE OPERA" very loudly at the Sydney Opera House and the music notes fly out of the sails over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and around the world!
I actually used to think that when I wasn't looking, the fruit and vegetables in my house would start moving and turn into all these random animals. I got shit scared.
When I was a kid, I always thought this was really irritating.. But now, I find it impressive and kudos to the production team for coming up with so much endless ideas and their relentless efforts to run this!
This was the shit and one of the things I miss about my childhood. And yes, it was a little scary, I am not exempt. It has such a unique vibe to it and I feel like this show as well as the other Aussie tv classics like brum for example, are really true to the times. Nowadays children shows just don’t have that same magic
I'm agree. I'm from Mexico and I used to watch these spots in the schedule of Cartoon Network after my favourites shows in late 90's. I remember that as soon as I heard the damn song I would run for the control remote to change the channel and avoid this creepy shit.
I had the sound track to this stuck in my head for 3 years and finally remembered I would straight up think about it trying to remember the name for hours at a time
I also used to think this was scary af but for whatever reason kept watching. However check this out: "A 2000 episode of Soupe Opera featuring a bat rapidly flying its cabbage wings resulting in them flashing on the screen has caused over 450 young children in France to have epileptic attacks and seizures. The infamous episode has since been removed from French Television." Kids television was just built different back then.
Bruh I was mowing the lawn the other day and randomly in my head when SOUPE OPERAAAAAAA. Dam I was like 4 when I watch this on abc for kids. 15 years ago.
I really love that soo many had the same experience as me, when i was a child this scared me a lot. At the same time it was interesting so i could not stop watching it.
This show is such a fever dream but the 2005-2009 in me loved it because my little brain had no context for singing pieces of fruit that just happened to make animals
Bro all the old tv series we used to watch. Jimmy and giggle, fire man same, octonauts, the wiggles, in the night garden, the old Thomas the tank Engine. So many more that raised me as a kid. I'm proud to be an Autralian. I wanna cry so bad every time I see these kinds of old videos we used to watch. I wanna be a kid again and watch all those shows for hours on end. Man being a kid was great. I miss every second of my childhood.😢
I grew up in the 90's watching whenever it randomly got dropped in between shows on Danish national tv. I've been singing the Opera part in my ever since from time to time and now showing it to my kid after realizing that what I was singing comes from somewhere :D
it use to scary the shit out of me when i was younger but now i'm 18 and laughing my f'n head off i just remembered this show yesterday and had to check it out so nostalgic i miss being a kid
I've been searching for this for about 25 years now and today, I found it because I sang it to a random stranger in a pub and he somehow knew what it was!!!
Woah, I remember my siblings and I would always miss watching this show. So when ever came on we were just sitting on the lounge staring at the tv. I also remember being very intrigued and slightly creeped out on how to foods moved. 😂
Being sick at home off school watching this in the early 2000’s during ad breaks, while your mum makes you a peanut butter sandwich and some lemonade. This some fever dream shit fr.
I wonder if this show ever really knew what it wanted to be, because one minute it’s a slot machine, the next minute it’s a fruit display, and the next minute it’s an analog horror series. The three are not related in any way lmao it just seemed so random now that I look back at this show. 🤣❤️
I remember I use to always watch this with my cousin that was like 30. he barely liked it but seeing the smile on my face when I was 2 always mad it worth it for him. Now I'm 14 and we still always say "Sooberio" whenwe see each other because I didn't know how to pronounce it when I was younger. An unlike many others, I didn't find it scary
OH MY GOD! I FINALLY FOUND IT! I had no idea what it was called, who (or what nationality) made it and my bad memory remembered wrong about the basket. I remembered a trash bin(???) which explains why it was so hard to find this animation with my keywords! I haven't seen this show for over 20 years but I've always remembered that song (back then I had no idea what the woman even said/sang but now it finally makes sense)! It was bizarre animation but yet mesmerizing and I always liked to see the creativity of the fruits and veggies turn into animal figures.
Is my brother and I really the only ones who actually liked this show as a child? I remember bouncing up and down on my sofa from excitment when this came on TV.
hell yes it use to scary the shit out of me when i was a kid (4/5/6 years old) but now i'm laughing my f'n head off it's so nostalgic 2000's Aussie kids are the best

God it hurt for me to watch just now
"fun"
I think I have mild epilepsy and it hurt a bit when that happened but no much it mostly hurts when there is a lot of contrast which happens when there is a small continuing patter like stripes or dots and the 2 colours are close to opposite, light and dark, or saturated and unsaturated
Really?!
Wow 😳
The French surrendering to a low-budget animation. How surprising.

No one:
My last 2 brain cells during final exams:
😫😫😫 I was completely scared of this programme when i was a child!!
Me too. Especially when the singer sang that high note and they used that echo effect.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one
Me too!! Hahaha, I screamed every single time that woman said "Soupe operaaaaaaa!!!"

I think I can agree on most of the 90s community to say
THIS SHOW WAS BLOODY TERRIFYING
Woah 90's? I watched n in like 2012

Somebody tell me I wasn’t the only child who was absolutely terrified of this show.
I believe the most common review to this show is literally "caused childhood traumas" or "caused childhood nightmares" if this helps
I remember balling my eyes out every time the intro music started playing so
I'VE BEEN WONDERING WHAT THIS WAS CALLED FOR YEARS! YESSSS!!!!
Omg this is giving extreme nostalgia. The music scared me so much as a kid
