I remember these so well lol. I had 2 of the green Xbox 360 Afterglow's and they both died like 3 weeks after being bought, they were so cheap but looked so cool
I remember these! My first system was from my parents, when I was 12 we got our first TV for Christmas and shortly after they got my brother a Wii U. We then got MC Wii U edition and got an after Glow Pro Controller to play multiplayer! Good times…
That blue wii remote was actually the main one I used throughout my childhood. My dad got it for me for Christmas and I used ONLY that remote so much that I ended up completely wearing it down and rendered it unusable somehow, lol. It was such a cool shade of blue, and the clear case and lights as well as more comfortable button placement (in my opinion) was great for me. I was really happy to see it pop up in this video, brought back some good memories.
So, as someone who owns that first PS3 controller and pulling mine out of the storage, I think some of these gamestop branded ones just straight up didn't have LEDs because mine doesn't either, though entertainingly it shows up as "Afterglow PS3 controller" when hooked to my PC. I have a theory that these were QA fails and rather than scrapping them entirely, they were tested for functionality and slapped gamestop branding on them and sold at a steep discount.
I have an Xbox One Prismatic Afterglow controller my brother gave me like a decade ago, maybe a little less than that. Was brand new when it come out. Still got it. Still works perfectly with no issues whatsoever. Love it.
Dude absolute banger of a channel, keep doing what you’re doing. You’re gonna hit big numbers in a month or two man, keep the creative and hard work up
I used to work at GameStop and people would come up to me and tell me how good those PDP controllers are. Those controllers are so durable that you could practically use those things as a weapon.
Anyone else in here grow up with those Rock Candy Xbox 360 controllers? They looked very similar to the PDP afterglows but with no lights and shit cables
Rock Candy is made by PDP too! they're essentially identical to the afterglow controllers, except they use no LED's, White accents instead of black, and they use Colored opaque plastic instead of completely colorless plastic. They've started to include character figurines inside the controllers, branded as "Realmz" controllers. I had a red 360 rock candy controller as a kid, but that one broke so fast because I think someone sat on it? I can't remember lol.
I did and still do, it worked but after a few months it started disconnecting constantly from slight movements so I had to unplug and replug it in. Still have it to this day but it's just collecting dust on my shelf.
So they used to have the really crappy connectors, but near the end of the 360s lifespan I came across one with a Micro Usb connector. I still use it, no rumble though!
I absolutely love those afterglows, they were exclusively my go-to controllers for the 360 and one. They also made it easier to speed run perfect dark xbla. Certified classic
Something unmentioned here is the xbox one had two different version, which were like night and day to each other. one had this really cool neon light tube that was shaped like the controller, back buttons, and super customizable coloring. it also had the ability to have headphone audio raised, lowered, and mute, though this was finicky. the second version wasn't so great despite being the v2, it had that bland led light design the others have, removed the buttons on the back, and i think had slightly better audio control? last time i used this one was 2018. what was special about these for me, is perfect darks movement accelerates if 2 movement inputs are detected, since it was an n64 game the cbuttons used to make you move up to 4x faster, but being a remaster using a joystick you couldnt get that same result. however, the afterglows have a specific deadzone that lets you hit that peak spot that lets you move the faster legal xbox controllers allowed.
Being apart of the Fighting Game Community, PDP was very notoriously known for two of their sponsored players just doing weird things like MvC2/UMvC3 player Fanatiq using the 360 Afterglow and always shilling his coupon code to the point where no one would allow him on commentary during major tournaments and Chris G for wearing two sets of headphones lol. Surprisingly, like MadCatz, most of their stuff were pretty premium like the Injustice Arcade Stick (a little on the lighter side), definitely qualified as an Afterglow product as it came with LED pushbuttons and LED lever. Nowadays they sell PDP Victrix FS Pro arcade sticks and the Victrix BFG controller. There's literally no aftermarket controllers for the PS5 as I'm guessing Sony has entered the PC controller market with their DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers leaving PS5 aftermarket selection being premium stuff like Hori Fighting Commander Octa FightPad ($60), Razer Wolverine V2 ($200+) and the PDP BFG ($200+).
I remember being 14 years old and throwing those see through glowing 360 controllers when I got made at MW3 and BO2 and them literally shattering into a million pieces😂
I still remember the old Rock candy brand from them too, I had the xbox controller and it was like just slightly worse. The mold was identical to the afterglow but the thumbsticks didnt have rubber and there was no LEDs but the shell was translucent green. I used that thing for countless hours of Halo 3, minecraft and terraria and I cant lie I still like those controllers to this day
I've stuck with Afterglow headsets for a decade now and I haven't been disappointed. I bought a pair of AG9s for my PS4 and they worked perfectly and sounded great. The mic surprisingly is great too, Sony Golds by comparison sound underwater. The thing died, I later found out it was just the USB dongle that needed to be replaced, and Afterglow sent me a brand new replacement HEADSET no questions asked. Now I got 2 AG9s that still work great today. Fantastic customer support.
Bro i started watching this video and honestly you have profiction down wasn't untill i saw u sub count i realized i should probably hit that button, keep up the great work man
I still use my green XBox 360 Afterglow controller to this day for certain games on PC (with lights and rumble on). The XBox 360 contoller is a GOATed design and my controller has never had any hardware issues. I will even occasionally plug it in when playing competitive games like CS2 with friends. Great video!
I swear I once used a transparent ps2 controller with LEDs and water inside it as a kid, it was also wireless and one of the most batshit insane things I'd ever experienced back then
Nice video man I saw your cod video and I got recommended this one , sorry for not subscribing when I saw the cod video I forgot but now you gained a new subscriber good videos bro 🔥
Funnily enough, the switch pro controller is my favorite besides the 360. It feels so right in the hands and I prefer the binary triggers over the *mostly* useless variable triggers the others have. Charge time and battery length are both insanely good! My first lasted about 2500 hours of gameplay (yes I was a no-life, I’ve changed LOL) and I only had to change due to stick drift
My family got 3 of the first Wii U pro controllers. They were fine if you hooked up 2 of them but they started to act funny once you hooked all 3 at once and would randomly switch players mid game
Grew up on PS3. Had 1 wireless blue afterglow controller, 1 wired blue and white rock candy controller, and one wired green and white rock candy controller. These were all shared between me, my dad, and my sister.
That level 1 headset is actually a banger in the rough. I got that back in 2018 when the newer xbox controllers (with 3.5mm jacks) came out. I got it for my PC and used this with that controller to play destiny on my big screen tv.
21:30 Well, for most users these controllers with extra back buttons serve to jump and crouch/dodge without dropping your finger from right thumbstick for constant camera control. Imo it's a waste to program these for bumpers when you can easily access them at any time with index fingers. So the default mapping for pdp is understandable.
I didn't think about that! As someone who plays a lot of fps and doesn't usually purchase controllers with bumpers, that's the only place my mind went when seeing them. That's pretty cool that they're so much more utilized in different genres and games.
I personally preferred their 'rock candy' line over the afterglow stuff. That green Rock candy 360 controller with white triggers and cable actually lasted 5+ years of pretty close to DAILY use on PC, after a year or so of use with the 360, before the spring on the left stick started to weaken too far, leaving it often not returning to center properly and having a drift-like effect only really noticeable in games with little to no deadzone. At that point, I retired the old boy. Still in a drawer somewhere, I think. It got replaced with a powerA controller, then another powerA 3 months later, before I grabbed a cheap logiF310, which the only thing I didn't like about was the massive hardware deadzones. That F310 is still in use on an emulation box that sits in my front room. I then picked up a DS4 when the deadzones bothered me too much, which I used for a couple years before picking up an official series X controller. I've since moved on to a flydigi. The OEM 360 controller WAS better than the rock candy, but not by too much, being mostly better in material quality. Actual feel as always comes down to preference. Can say if your hands are naturally sweaty/greasy, that the afterglow and rock candy lines, really anything that relies on that smooth glossy plastic, will build up gamer goo like crazy. I was wiping donw the controller probably once a week or so, and my hands aren't particularly grody.
Fun fact: I have a pair of PS3 Afterglow controllers that also have those Xbox One-shaped battery covers. If you put a PDP brand Xbone rechargable battery pack inside, it'll fit right in. Can't say the same about a Wii U Afterglow controller, since I never used one, but I wouldn't be surprised.
PDP Afterglow controllers were great for 3rd party. The one I bought came with an order form for a free Afterglow T-shirt. I don't have the controller anymore but I still wear that shirt, it's a really nice shirt and still looks good
Now this brings back memories. I had one of those clear green flashbang xbox 360 pads for use on my first gaming PC way back when. Lasted a helluva long time, at least 5 years before biting the dust. Turned those lights off as soon as I got blinded the first time and then removed that damn button in case it melted my retinas. Only real complaint I had was that the triggers were weirdly stiffer than a normal Xbox 360 pad which lead to a lot of cramps in racing games. PDP is how you do budget right in my opinion.
I bought a PS3 and panicked when I saw the price of a DualShock 3 so I went to eBay and picked up a brand new Afterglow controller that had probably been rotting in some warehouse for 14 years for $24.
I'm the youngest of 3 so I was born into a lot of consoles, the PS3 being one of the first systems of my own that I got as a Christmas present. As far as controllers featured in this video I had both a green Pelican and blue PDP for the PS3. They both felt pretty good, even if not as good as a real DS3, although they have since worn down quite a lot as it was by far the console I played the most. I also had two Mad Catz PS2 controllers and the (actually good) Genesis turbo controller under their Toys R Us "High Frequency" branding. Those new Switch controllers look great for the price, I'd be tempted to get them if I still played that console more than once a year.
The PDP Afterglow Wired was my 2nd switch controller and had it as my main controller until I got the Splatoon 3 Special Edition controller. It was pretty great 👍🏻
I bought an afterglow headset and used it forever with both my ps3 and ps4 i loved it. Eventually got the upgraded one with the stand and everything it was awesome.
I still use my red xbox360 rock candy controller from a decade ago on my steam deck when emulating games! Its one of the most durable remotes ive ever had in the 3rd party department!
my 1st console from my Dad was his Sega Master System before the Genesis, and on my Mom's side was from my Uncle and he had the Commodore-64, and Coleco-Vision from each as both were gamers and what I remember big time from both of them.
@@lessthoughtof was not bad but it also had it issues but what older systems didn't thou? My uncle still has his C-64 and said whenever he passes on will give it to me and his Turbografx-16 with the CD add-on and atm I still own my Dad's Sega Saturn And That I'm never at all departing till I die. I LOVE Saturn.
I had the PS2 version of that PS3 controller, that one was afterglow branded and was green LED. I loved that controller, seriously it's so comfortable to use, I don't know why the L2 and R2 buttons aren't there on the official controllers, it's much better placement in my opinion. Now I have to try to track down one, I'd love to use it on my PC and PS3.
I had the exact same afterglow wiimote as a kid and loved it so much. I absolutely fried the nunchuck cable playing sonic and the black knight and wii boxing. Pretty sure I got it for like $15.99 brand new at Fred Meyer.
Awesome video and I think pdp are gonna be just fine with the relatively recent release of the riffmaster (which has sold incredibly well and in high demand)
That's true. Could've been super limited production though since it's for a niche use case and relatively expensive. At the end of the day, it's just a brand.
my first console was the PSP, but my first actual console was the Sunset Overdrive Xbox One which was the first white Xbox one, except the one the devs recieved, so I felt kinda special having it compared to my friends that had the regular black one
I had two of those afterflow ps3 controllers you showed at the end of the ps3 segment. They're pretty bulky, and my friend initially thought it was an xbox controller. They're not nearly as good as the ps3 controller, but work great for what you need them to do. I still use them to this day when I crack out my ps3 to play some games
growing up, I was pretty small and I saved up and bought a mini xbox360 controller, I believe it was made by rockcandy? It was my favorite controller and no one else could use it because it was smaller. It was a shaded/dark clear with white lights inside and I loved it honestly. I still have it somewhere but don't use it. I do however use a blue clear rock candy normal sized controller for pc games because I prefer wired controllers when at my desk and it works just fine for me!
I liked the single ear headsets because I could enjoy my stereo still while playing games. With all millions of Wiis sold I’m shocked the controllers are that pricey.
i had the SMALL green Afterglow controller. goddamn i miss that. my cousin had the large (regular 360 sized) clear one. i wouldnt let anyone touch mine and he wouldnt let anyone but me touch his controller. THEY WHERE THE BEST QUALITY and man did they work and last...
I kind of lost my love for afterglow. I initially got into the brand with the same green-glowing XB360 controller but what really made me fall in love with the brand was the Afterglow Prismatic Xbox one controller. It had this neon style light that traced the outside of the controller. To this day the coolest controller design I've seen so I got one (you can find it in the BIGBIG WON Rainbow Controllers now). But then, a year or two later PDP released a new controller. Instead of the neon style light they went with randomly scattered LEDs. (Which the old ones had too in addition to the light tube, that lit up upon rumble). Not only was this a massive downgrade but adding insult to injury they also raised the price. Haven't looked back at them since
Cool video, I had the 360 green afterglow and loved it. I don’t see the hate for the switch pro controller tho. Personally that controller is amazing for me, one of the best out there
the Power A Blue 360 controller with afterglow has been my go to pc controller for over 10 years I also have the same wiimote and yes i don't like the diagonal buttons. my nunchuck had a standard blue cable no spool so mine must've been a newer model
6:50: Actually, it's BETTER ergonomically than the standard 360 pad! I still have one (broken, but I keep it in the probably-vain hope I'll be able to fix it someday) and its grip handles are more bulbous, meaning it fills your hands more, and is more comfortable.
Those Afterglow 360 controllers were decent to me. I have one that still works fine, another with a bad RB button. I also have an Afterglow Wii remote + nunchuk, which is pretty sweet.
Hey those thumbsticks on the newest afterglow controller, I've seen them before on my hori split pad compact controller. I hope they keep using those because I know on my hori those things feel pretty great.
He’s just like me, loads up destiny and doesn’t know what to do
I guess I'll go rot in the helm, then.
@@lessthoughtof the helmrot is so real

Translucent means you can see through it partially.

Seeing that thumbnail with the green afterglow controller, reminded me of having my entire room light up when doing anything in RE6. Thank you.

I definitely broke mine by wraping the cord around too tight when I stored it.
They lasted 3 weeks or 3 years for me.
No in-between lol
Lmao, I still have my controller from the 360. Working still :))
mine has survived for 7 years atp

Those new Switch controllers look great for the price, I'd be tempted to get them if I still played that console more than once a year.
I feel like I barely touch my switch anymore 😅
jejeje
The PDP Afterglow Wired was my 2nd switch controller and had it as my main controller until I got the Splatoon 3 Special Edition controller. It was pretty great 👍🏻
I had the lime green Xbox360 controller that I got from trading with a friend and that shit SLAPPED. Actually so well made
I love this channel good shit man
It's all about the bits
I bought an afterglow headset and used it forever with both my ps3 and ps4 i loved it. Eventually got the upgraded one with the stand and everything it was awesome.
I still use my red xbox360 rock candy controller from a decade ago on my steam deck when emulating games! Its one of the most durable remotes ive ever had in the 3rd party department!
another banger vid bro!
Thanks! Got some decent controllers out of the deal too.
my 1st console from my Dad was his Sega Master System before the Genesis, and on my Mom's side was from my Uncle and he had the Commodore-64, and Coleco-Vision from each as both were gamers and what I remember big time from both of them.
Woah, haven't heard of the Coleco Vision in a long time!
I LOVE Saturn.
pdp rock candy was what i bought back in the day, miss the days of translucent tech
Pretty sure I got it for like $15.99 brand new at Fred Meyer.
fun video! great topic as well.
HOW DID YOU JUST GET HERE, WHY ARE YOU UP GO GET SOME SLEEP.
i tired, i go bed now
Awesome video and I think pdp are gonna be just fine with the relatively recent release of the riffmaster (which has sold incredibly well and in high demand)
That's true. Could've been super limited production though since it's for a niche use case and relatively expensive. At the end of the day, it's just a brand.
I used to use one of these controllers and it actively shocked me when the vibration came on. Still a based controller
I think I remember owning one of these for use on my laptop when I played something like Fallout or other games that had controller support
Opaque = solid btw ;)
You're looking for transparent/translucent!
my first console was the PSP, but my first actual console was the Sunset Overdrive Xbox One which was the first white Xbox one, except the one the devs recieved, so I felt kinda special having it compared to my friends that had the regular black one
insane how you use gyro for that shrine in botw but not splatoon 💀
I still have my pdp green Xbox 360 wired controller and it still works great to this day!
Yea, they weren't quite original, but that uniqueness is what made them worth something.
Another great video man
Thankyou!!
I purchased the Afterglow wave wired controller for the Xbox series X back in January and it’s seriously a solid buy
Hey these where so quality Microsoft partnered with pdp to make those really cool duke reissues with the little screen in it
growing up, I was pretty small and I saved up and bought a mini xbox360 controller, I believe it was made by rockcandy? It was my favorite controller and no one else could use it because it was smaller. It was a shaded/dark clear with white lights inside and I loved it honestly. I still have it somewhere but don't use it. I do however use a blue clear rock candy normal sized controller for pc games because I prefer wired controllers when at my desk and it works just fine for me!
If I come over to your house and I you have afterglow controllers for the ps3, we're instantly friends.
😎😎
Rock candy is one of my favorites.
The PDP Wii Remote was fucking awesome
I would love to have more options for PS5 controllers like we did back in the day with the PS2 controllers
I liked the single ear headsets because I could enjoy my stereo still while playing games.
With all millions of Wiis sold I’m shocked the controllers are that pricey.
I loved the afterglow controllers
i had the SMALL green Afterglow controller. goddamn i miss that. my cousin had the large (regular 360 sized) clear one. i wouldnt let anyone touch mine and he wouldnt let anyone but me touch his controller. THEY WHERE THE BEST QUALITY and man did they work and last...
Another solid vid
Glad you liked it
I kind of lost my love for afterglow.
Personally that controller is amazing for me, one of the best out there
the Power A Blue 360 controller with afterglow has been my go to pc controller for over 10 years
I also have the same wiimote and yes i don't like the diagonal buttons. my nunchuck had a standard blue cable no spool so mine must've been a newer model
The Wii one I have seems better than yours, doesn't jitter, doesn't have that weird retracting cable.
Hey those thumbsticks on the newest afterglow controller, I've seen them before on my hori split pad compact controller. I hope they keep using those because I know on my hori those things feel pretty great.
