- **OLD HOLLYWOOD ACTORS YOUNG AND OLD**
“Hier Encore” was written by Charles Aznavour and Georges Garvarentz and released in 1964. English lyrics were added by Herbert Kretzmer and Aznavour recorded it as “Yesterday When I Was Young” in 1970. It has been recorded in English, French, Italian, Spanish, Finnish, Czech and Greek! Some notable versions include Shirley Bassey, Lena Horne, Matt Monroe and Jack Jones. The English version tells of someone reflecting on his life, recalling how he had wasted his younger years on hedonistic pursuits, and now that he is older, he is unable to do everything that he had planned, perhaps because death is on the way. Looking at pictures of these actors really makes one think about aging, getting old. I mean, these men were gorgeous in their youth and many morphed into something else over time. Mind you these were the times of smoking and drinking, and everyone did it. So, many of these stars ended up in poor health or aged more rapidly. It also makes one realize that no matter how beautiful you are now, and no matter what beauty products you may use, we all get old. Mind you, old people are beautiful. You can see the long, life many of them have led by glancing into their eyes. Wrinkles can also represent knowledge simply from living life. You can learn a lot from an elderly person.
Charles Aznavour has written or co-written over 1,000 songs for himself and others. He has also recorded more than 1,200 songs interpreted in nine languages. He has sold an astonishing over 180 million records and also appeared in more than 80 films. I saw him perform live when he toured with protege Liza Minnelli in the 90s. He died at the age of 94 in 2013. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments.
