      4500 as it's what I could afford lol, but it's also a tried and reliable unit, also I have a Gold Monster 1000 which is great for mullock heaps and creeks 👹🤓

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That mine shaft hole under the bush was deceptively deep, deep enough that we would not have been able to climb back out. A lot of shafts get covered up by sticks etc as well (false bottoms), so you really have to watch where you walk at all times. Cheers :)

I had an sd 2000 back in the 90s and found nearly 3oz of gold, all nuggets, and they ranged from 1.5 to a 26 grammer but i didnt find much in the sub grammer range, it was'nt built for the tiny stuff. now days, you have to be lucky to get onto a good patch, and they are few and far between. coins and relics are my preferred targets now, and im happy with that! I'd love to check out the tide pools again. At the moment we are approaching the coldest water temps of the year, which is typically around September where I am, so it's not particularly pleasant on the hands but by November or so it should be more feasible. • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the delayed reply! There are many creeks in gold-bearing regions that will yield such results, my best tip is to obtain a prospecting map for that region (I use Signal Prospecting maps, but there are other brands as well). Start in areas that are indicated to have a history of gold extraction. I recommend watching Vo-Gus Prospecting on TH-cam for good instructional content. Best of luck!

    The SDC 2300 is what we run atm for gold. It's a great machine, but I find it a bit on the heavy side (I have some physical limitations). Would love a GPX 6000 but I'm also looking at another coin detector. Decisions. :-)

      @DirtFishMish  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate this comment, as it pretty much details the exact dilemma I am facing! Those are the two machines I am trying to decide between. The waterproof nature of the SDC is great for me given that I'd be likely to submerge it in water at some point, but I do dislike heavy machines and the GPX felt amazing to swing. I'm looking forward to that day. At least there were a few specks in the pan. :)

    Now if regular detecting takes patience, gold prospecting takes the patience of a Jedi Master! My only gold machine in the arsenal is a Garrett Infinitum (circa 1990s) it is a bit finicky and a bugger to noise cancel looking for a clean channel & may be a slow death sometimes... But it'll get the job done. But mostly here in sunny, and lately extremely hot Florida, i only break it out to search for gold chains on clean beaches just to chage up the routine. It is not a comfortable machine to swing with the original shaft, a must to get an Andersen shaft! But way better machines exist now!!! Have fun 🏖️🌊🪙⛏️⛏️⛏️

      I'm currently tossing up between the 6000 and an SDC 2300 which is waterproof, but heavier - as I'm sure I'll be tempted to swing whichever machine I choose out on the beach! Hopefully I can pick something up later in the year. Cheers mate. :)

      Yep, you've got to keep your wits about you in the old gold working regions! Letting someone know your general GPS coordinates is also super important for the same reason. Cheers :)

    When you digg just put it in a basket not on the ground , then you check every time the 2 spot.

    Are they like the sinkers of the gold detecting world? 😂

      Musket balls are the sinkers! The lead shot is just annoying. lol :)

    Well Mish. I have to be the idiot who says it. Those were the smallest sinkers I've ever seen you find. Very interesting vid. Seems like you need to swing much more slowly or maybe that was centering on the target. I wonder if I use my Nox 800 on gold mode would I need to slow the swing down?

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  ปีที่แล้ว

      heh heh heh. They're the goldfields equivalent of sinkers, along with musket balls.
      Correct, gold detecting requires a much slower swing as you're generally listening for smaller targets and sometimes they only give the faintest blip. A fast swing would not give the machine enough time to process what was going on under the coil, and finer targets would be easily missed. Take your time with the Nox, check old tailings piles etc and I hope you come across some goodies :)

      Hah! Fair point, but surely that massive gold nugget that's still out there somewhere would cover a few hot beverages. :)

    Look, if they can train a pig to find truffles and a dog to find drugs, they ought to be able to train something to find gold. Maybe the ants could specialize. Just have to come up with a bribe that they can’t resist…..
