    I continually see people dont understand the center trough relationship and what the valve core does when installing and removing tires. When installing start opposite the valve core , use the center channel get the bead in the channel as far around the rim as you can.. finish AT the valve core area. When uninstalling, deflate , pop the bead into the center channel first all the way around on one side and then use your lever at the valve core spot first to get the most slack from the tire bead in the channel. the valve core does not allow the bead to sit in the center channel taking up valuable slack on tight tires.

      I understand what you are saying but the reality is the valve core pushing the bead over a small amount in the channel does not make much difference when installing a tire. These tires were not particularly tight, the only real issue with this installation was the sidewall stiffness pushing the bead over the rim edge because the tire was moving relative to the rim before I could reposition the wheel and tire while trying to keep the bead tight in the valley. Thanks for the reply!

      @@jaredrude431 roger , you seemed to manage fine , but it’s good practice to use the most you can get from the center channel. Some combos are really tight. Road tires as well. Very narrow channel. Just a tip from a bike mechanic. Use it or not.:)

    Very useful! Soap needed gotcha 👍 My LBS claimed these "couldn't possibly" be tubeless tyres since they couldn't get them seated....

    I haven’t had trouble mounting any Maxxis tires but these kryptotals (I got enduro casing) are a massive headache. I haven’t gotten them on yet as I think I need to warm them in the sun first, but hopefully the ride is worth the struggle! Thanks for the video.

      Enduro casings have a very stiff sidewall due to the apex insert, they are easy to push out of the channel when trying to snap the bead over the rim edge. DH casings we're the same way. However both sealed and aired up fine once I got them on the rims.

    The tire wobble test after mount would benefit this video.👌

      Sorry I didn't reply sooner, have been busy mostly with work and family stuff and also just slacking in my spare time. I did walk out and spin all the tires, all except one have no wobble. My DH casing super soft Kryptotal Front mounted to an Industry Nine Enduro 305 has a wobble, but honestly I can't tell if it is a wobble or if it is because the rim is bent. I noticed the bend but I can't tell if the wobble is in the same place as the bend. I'll have to straighten the wheel and try again later.

    • @jaredrude431
      @jaredrude431  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I made a mistake, it is the Kryptotal Rear that has the wobble because of the bent rim, not the Front.

    I just bought a Trek Top Fuel 8, it came with XR2s (not XR4s) so I kept my previous combo (2.3 Crossking front/Barzo 2.25 back) that i had in my old full sus XC mtb. Now I am just looking for a good combo that is specifically for trail riding (bike parks mostly), one of the combos that I am considering is Xynotal 2.4 or Kryptotal 2.4 rear/Kryptotal 2.4 front (trail casing). Only thing holding me back is that they are quite heavy, and I have other options with lower weight (Mazza, Agarro, XR4, Forekaster, Dissector). Anyway, I liked the general reviews on the tires and its knobs pattern though, maybe its quality compensates the higher weight. If you have any other suggestion, i would welcome it. Thanks (note: live in south Brazil, so trails are inside forrest and they are never really dry, always a little muddy in some parts bellow the trees)

    Wish my enduro casing was that easy. The bead on both sides wanted to stay in the middle channel and was so tight after 2 hrs of me trying the LBS ended up having to use a tube to get one side to seat. I think because my raceface arc30 rims have offset spoke holes one side kept letting all the air out no matter what

    • @jaredrude431
      @jaredrude431  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have struggled in the past with some offset rims on other tire brands. The rims I installed on all have centered channels and the channels are pretty shallow and wide. A rim with a dppe or narrow channel or a big offset can be tough for a lot of tires or if the offset valve stem is making the bead hang up and not seat. Those tires typically I wrap a strap or rope around the tire to push the bead into the rim and then inflate with the air compressor and normally I can get the beads to seat. I also have the enduro casing Kryptotal/Xynotal tires on Roval Traverse Alloy 29 and WAO Union 29 and both installations were easier than the DH casings onto the i9 Enduro 305 rims. Honestly I don't think I even used tire levers on the Traverse 29 rims. Some rims are just tough to deal with, I had an e13 TRS+ rim from like 2017 that was terrible to put tires on, it was hard to get the bead over the edge and then also hard to seal tubeless in the channel.

    • @jaredrude431
      @jaredrude431  ปีที่แล้ว

      also usually I put the whole rim in the center of the beads and install each bead from opposite sides. Installing both beads from the same side can be challenging on the heavy casing tires. Install the bead on the side with less offset first, then install the bead on the side with greater offset second. That makes it easier for the bead on the side with smaller offset to slide into the channel while installing the other side.

      @@jaredrude431 hi Jared, please i doubt between Enduro and Dh case, i ride enduro, with dry and really rocky terrain, drops and jumps. Did you push the enduro case? Any ride at speed with rocks to check if its enough.
      I usually ride some vertical meters, so not sure if the penalty weight of a dh case in the rear will be ok.
      Also what pressures do you use front and rear? Any change on that enduro bs dh casing?
      Thx for the feedback

    • @jaredrude431
      @jaredrude431  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gabrielmarias972 Sorry I didn't reply sooner, have been busy mostly with work and family stuff and also just slacking in my spare time. The enduro casing has been very durable for me. We have lots of rocks and roots and I have not had any sidewall slashes and only had one puncture, which the sealant took care of nearly instantly. I have been playing with tire pressures recently and I can run the enduro casings down to 17 psi in front and 19 psi in rear, however, at those pressure the sidewalls can roll a little in the fast transitions in berms and fast flat turns. Drops and jumps are no problems, unless its a big jump and landing in a rock garden, but then, and tire could be suspect. Performance at 17 psi and 19 psi is quite good, however performance at pressures slightly higher is no worse. Riding 19 psi front and 21 psi rear has the same traction as lower pressures, and the higher pressure are more supportive in the fast berms. I have the enduro casing tires on my trail bike and the largest climbs for me are around 1000 meters (~3300 feet) but my typical ride is somewhere between 1000-1400 feet of climbing. Energy wise I honestly can't tell a whole lot of difference in climbing energy between my dual compound Maxxis Minion Semi Slick and Xynotal enduro soft in the rear. I'm sure the semi slick must be faster, but energy wise, I just can't tell, I feel the same at the end of the day. I hope this helps!

    What was the temp. During the install? Did you warm the tires up first? No lube?

    • @jaredrude431
      @jaredrude431  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Installed them when I bought them in May 2022, so early summer in the southeast, mid 80F? I did not warm up the tires at all, I did not use any lubricant but one tire I sprayed soapy water when I popped the beat. The other bead just popped with nothing.

    Where do you live and ride? Soil and surface type? Do you ride when muddy? Ski resort/lift riding? Cross country with: rock, roots, ruts,straight up and down? Or bmx type/groomed and only switchbacks/imba trails where all hills are removed? Flat? Thank you.

    • @jaredrude431
      @jaredrude431  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are in NC and we ride anywhere we can, but the downhill tires are on my park bike that I use in the southeastern bike parks. Beech, Sugar, Snowshoe, etc. I have ridden the downhill casings on cross country trails (20 miles with 2000 ft of climbing) and they rolled pretty fast. Typically though we have lots of rocks and roots in the trails and lightweight tires don't survive for us. Kryptotal Front is not a good mud tire but Rear did ok. I try to avoid the mud as much as possible but when we get there and it's muddy we just ride. One of the days at Snowshoe it poured rain and everything was wet and some mud and the tires did very well. I did not run the camera that day though.

    Michelin DH casing is something else compared to any other mtb tire almost hehehe. To me new Conti rubber is soft but had that bluish color that told me is more like plastic than rubber. Some folks I ask like them but many got another tire for the front. At 4:00 many people do not place well the tire into the middle section of the rim,that´s why you needed those tire levers. You can place any tire with your hand if you do it right.

    • @jaredrude431
      @jaredrude431  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I didn't reply sooner, have been busy mostly with work and family stuff and also just slacking in my spare time. I've not had the Michelin tires but I'd like to try them (DH22 and DH34, Wild Enduros, and Wild AM2 / Force AM2), problem is thats almost $400 worth of tires right there and its all money out of my own pocket 😄. At 4:00 I am installing the first bead and normally I don't worry about positioning the bead into the channel on the first bead install. The second bead install I do push the first bead into the channel. When I was younger and my hands were stronger perhaps I could do the DH casings without a lever, but not anymore. Thanks!

      Sorry I didn't reply sooner, have been busy mostly with work and family stuff and also just slacking in my spare time. I don't ride inserts, I just prefer the heavier casing tires. Heavier casing tires with a bead breaker or had plastic apex insert at the bead is normally good enough for us.

    I did not have a good time mounting even the enduro casing of the Kryptotals on asymetric Raceface rims.. They just would not go into the bead. Had to use soapy water and wrap a belt around the tire. No freaking way to do any of that on the trail except putting a tube in.

      I have a set of Raceface ARC i30's on a different bike and the channel is very hard to work with. They are my first and last set of Raceface rims. The Industry Nine enduro (i30) in the video and i9 trail (i27) rims and the WAO Union rims as well as the Rovals and e-thirteens all on our other bikes all take tire beads very well, while the Radeface ARCs are terrible at seating tires. Oh well. :(
