  • What do you think? Who's subway is the dirtiest? New York's Subway (the greatest city in the world ha, ha, ha) or Mexico City's Metro, a city which has a population of 21 million people. Here is a visual comparison so you can decide, leave your comments below.

Mylungpuppy is the channel of musician Ron Anderson.
I have been making avant-music for over forty years in a number of different projects; PAK, The Molecules, RonRuins, numerous collaborations and solo. I combine composition and improvisation exploring the regions where they intersect. Sometimes my music is brutal, but I’m not afraid of melody, in general my work is pretty much "out there".
The main focus of my channel is music, but I also make vlogs on various subjects, cycling, touring and traveling, vegan food, rare vinyl LPs, audio field recordings, etc. Because not everyone is going to be interested in all the subjects covered on this channel, I have made playlists so you do not have to search through videos to find what you are looking for.
I try to answer questions and respond to as many comments as I can, any and all feedback from you is welcome.
I'm trying to make at least one or two new videos a week.

I’ve been telling my friends how amazing Mexico City is, but very few are willing to visit because of the things they hear in US media. Those that visited have changed their minds… The CDMX metro is just one example of how clean and efficient the city is. Other forms of public transportation is also clean and very efficient and much cheaper than NYC. Let’s also not forget how seniors get to ride the metro for free with INAPAM card.

That was the most recent comparison I could find. My personal opinion is that the police are dangerous anywhere in the world and are best to be avoided if possible.

Queramos mas a nuestra ciudad y a nuestro metro. Saludos

Yep, I did not expect that when coming to the US. I lived in Mexico city for a few years. Personally, I've never been to NYC but recently I experienced LA Metro, and man... that changed my whole perspective of many things. I really thought Mexico City metro was dirty and dangerous but LA really stands out on this. Just as in the video, I found almost every single time a smell either of urine or vomit inside the wagon. Also, you feel really in danger inside because many of the people at night are drug addicts, which I think is the main factor that causes this difference. Drug addiction is not really an issue in Mexico like it is in the US. It is really hard to find someone in Mexico who is shouting nonsense or doing weird stuff in the streets or in the metro, so for that reason we do not have people urinating or vomiting inside public spaces. I hope the US works more on their addiction problem. Nevertheless, Mexico has other problems which stands out above US on other areas, but hey, different countries, different problems.

Have you used the train system of Mexico city for over 8 years? I have, and I assure you the service is efficient enough for what little we pay. Now if you made an argument of the NY metro being more efficient regardless of its higher price I would give you some credit, but you're not making any logical arguments, you're just completely disregarding anything positive about our metro system because you can't accept it being better than in the oh-so-great US. Mexico City Subway is the world's cheappest system, it is only 5 pesos. NYC Subway (2.5 US Dollar or 40 pesos). It is only free for older people and students, I have always thought that 10 pesos would be acceptable in order to create jobs and a bigger network. I don't use it, but when need, I have seen it is really good, clean, cheap and fast, not saying is the best one, but basically it is not a 5-peso product at all.

Cabe mencionar que mi aporte para que el metro se mantenga limpio es NO TIRANDO BASURA EN SUS INSTALACIONES NI EN LOS TRENES, Y SI LLEVO ALGUN REFRIGERIO O BEBIDA, TIRO EL ENVASE EN LAS BOLSAS DE BASURA QUE LLEVAN LOS TRABAJADORES DE LIMPIA CUANDO ME ENCUENTRO CON UNO Y CUANDO NO, SIMPLEMENTE LO GUARDO Y LO TIRO HASTA QUE ME ENCUENTRE UN BOTE EN LA CALLE O HASTA LLEGAR A MI CASA. The NYC transit system is substantially older compared to Mexico City's Metro. NYC opened in 1904 whereas the Mexico City Metro opened in 1967. The 63 year age differential can not be ignored. Moreover, NYC system is the largest system in North America. It also has the most stations (469) and track of any system. It is the seventh largest transit system in the world, whereas Mexico City's Metro has the ninth highest passenger ridership. . Furthermore, NYC is open 24/7 and Mexico City is not. It is an apples to oranges comparison.

+Adreece High In responce to Adreece High's comment...yes are correct New York is one of the oldest stations in the world, but it is not the oldest: Paris was started in 1900, London in 1890, both are like New York huge systems and are older that New York's subway which was started in 1904. I have been in both, and then are clean and well maintained. (I have not been in London in sometime, so maybe someone can update me on this) I picked West 4 street for two reasons, I use that stations a lot and it is in a very famous and affluent neighborhood, the people who live there are millionaires, so money to fix the subways in not the problem. Another point is just the attitude of New Yorkers...garbage does not fall into the tracks by itself, all that gum did not fall out of someones mouth accidentally. There are few better stations, but there are many that are just as bad as West 4th or worst. I could not find, anything even close in Mexico City, a city of 22 million people.

+mylungpuppy Only trouble with that is the fact that nearly all of Mexico City's residents are genuine Mexican citizens who are indigenous to the country of Mexico or were born IN Mexico City to begin with. On the other hand, New York is a highly transient city comprised of people from every country on the planet, many of which could give a shit less how the subway looks and don't mind trashing it. Most of these foreign visitors are only in NY temporarily, just long enough to obtain their degree, visit a relative, or work their way into a better job so they can eventually move back to whatever country they came from. Meanwhile Mexico doesn't have this problem because most of it's residents are actually FROM Mexico and therefore CARE about keeping their city clean while most visiting foreigners of NY could give a shit less about discarding their garbage properly, something. Bottom line is Mexico doesn't have NEAR the foreign visitors NY does,,,,, But hey, I totally understand it's always easier to just blame Americans for everything wrong in the world. This seems to be a favorite pastime of many who just can't handle facing facts...

Even if the Mexico City Metro is cleaner and cheaper, does not mean it's enough to live. We must take into account that most immigrants are state / poorest people in the country. They would be happier being here in their own country, but money is not enough even if everything is "cheaper". Have you ever wondered why there immigration? Some people, after 10 hours of work in a good day in the harvest only get $100 (pesos)!
It is horrible to think that way because it's so obvious that immigrants WOULD NOT HAVE WORK IF YOU DO NOT NEED THEM AND THEY DO NOT WOULD MIGRATE (or would put their life at risk or endure such humiliations) IF IT WERE NOT FOR THEIR FAMILY. And with regard to immigrants committing crimes, I guess (because I've heard) are people who are not used to living in such a different place or are born there ... as always, there are lots of variables.

NYC Subway... absolutely disgusting and utterly appalling. No maintenance whatsoever. The steel beams keeping the tunnel walls and ceiling up are rusting badly. Once one of them lets go, the superincumbent earth will come crashing in, bring with it cars, trucks, taxis, busses, motorcycles, bikes, street vending stands, people, litter, water and sewerage. They should fill the New York Subway with cement and replace it with a proper underground tube-railway.

    • @mylungpuppy
      @mylungpuppy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Not really true what you are saying about maintenance. I see crews constantly repairing and cleaning the subway ( I saw a crew was cleaning west 4th street just last night). But they cannot keep up. The people of New York are no help of course...I see them constantly throwing garbage one the tracks and leaving it in the cars.
But yes you are correct, it is absolutely disgusting.

    • @PfctvsPontivsPilatvs
      @PfctvsPontivsPilatvs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Apparently they can't keep up with the structural deterioration, either. Either that or that most critical aspect of maintenance isn't being done -- the beams in the ceiling for example are all badly rusted!
Well you are right... most ppl in the Northeast are absolute pigs. I've seen Philly's subway just as disgusting (and it *smelled*) -- Boston's can be just as bad.

The "better-paying" jobs in Mexico City start at $3,500 a month on the low end. Don't forget that Mexico City is the 7th richest city in the world (ranking ahead of Philadelphia and Washington D.C.) and has a massive financial district.

Mexico City generally speaking is a very clean city. They do a good job maintaining the streets free of garbage and other materials. In the U.S. big cities like New York or Los Angeles are very very dirty, but other mid-size cities like Milwaukee, Indianapolis or Tulsa are super clean. But in comparison there’s some cities where dirty is not even a good enough word to describe how bad the situation is.. really just walking around is dangerous and you could actually catch a disease just from going out.. like Mumbai in India.

    Hi Ron,
Yes indeed, you can definitely tell the difference between the two. I have taken the NYC transit system a few times. I remember in the late 70's there was a slasher who was running on the train at certain stops, cutting people and running off. So when the train was approaching the certain stop {I forget the name of it at the moment} everyone would get quiet until the doors shut and it moved again.
Boston is pretty clean in all. But some spots are very old and you can see the decay.
Thanks for sharing this very perceptive comparison~

The Subway in Mexico City definitely looks cleaner than the NYC Subway. The Subway in NYC is so filthy, stinky, and in the summer, humid and smellier than usual. The elevators smell like piss I don't even like touching the handrails on the stairs or escalators. The restrooms at the NYC stations literally make me want to vomit. NYC has the dirtiest metro system in the world in my opinion, and I've seen tons of metro systems.

HMMMMM, is Craig F. Thompson from New York? HMMMMM, is Craig F. Thompson one of these professional Chicago bashers? (1) A huge percentage of Chicago's "L" has been rehabbed over the last 25 years. (2) Even in the stations that haven't been rehabbed, I've never seen anything "four times" worse than this video or skyvator's description, and I've been using the "L" for the last 29 years. (3) I can't think of one "L" stop that even has restrooms: so--Mr. Thompson--how can you "say" that our restrooms are "four times" worse when they don't even exist?! (4) Chicago's subway is only 11.4 miles long ( the total "L" is 102.8 miles), yet Craig F. Thompson would actually have you believe that the "L" (10% underground) is "four times" more filthy, stinky and humid than New York's rail system (60% underground). Unbelievable.
Craig F. Thompson: "I see you haven't been to Chicago [...]."
Mr. Thompson, have you really ever been to Chicago? HMMMMMM!

+Kieran Reade Agree. Mexico City's subway system can be quite bad in some parts, I'd say some stations. Specially those that interconnect with other lines. But in general is not that bad. I mean, is not as neat as Paris' and London's, nor as modern as Tokyo. But it's kinda well maintained.

The CDMX's subway station's biggest flex, THOSE SHINNING FLOORS ✨️
Man, and to say that the metro in Mexico transports more people everyday than the New York's subway.

Same goes for hotels. Some of the 300+ a night in US are garbage compared to Mexico City.

Mexico City wins by far. It goes to show how bad transportation and generally the infrustructure is in US. There is little to no car eand everything is left to crumble like a "third world country".

That's how the subway system is here in NYC. You didn't show the rats as big as cats. Wasn't always nasty and dirty. Used to be clean up until the early 1980's if you can believe it.
