    My daughter has just bought this speaker with a Rega IO amp over a Naim Mu-so2 (today). We went to a trad bricks and mortar HiFi shop in Carlton Victoria and was looked after very well. We listened to a Rotel A11 tribute with these speakers and then the IO. The Naim was a great complete package, but the separates won out with the sound quality and size of the IO as well as the flexibilty for future upgrades. We included an Encel Bluetooth DAC, to get the same connectivity as the Naim and the Rotel. This system fits in her bedroom on a vintage sideboard between the plants and bits and bobs. She can stream spotify and tidal from her phone via aptX bluetooth and looks forward to connecting a CD player and maybe a turntable in the future. This replaces an old JBL bluetooth speaker and she is very happy with the sound.
    I thought it was worth adding this to a year old video because products have a long life and that immediate hit of the new is not where good HiFi is. It's not fast fashion, more like slow food. Good speakers are good speakers for decades. Maybe not so with DACs, although perhaps now there's a peak in performance, if not price.
    I guess I'm also writing this, apart from the good fortune to be able to buy something we want rather than something we need, is that we didn't just buy a pair of speakers (or were sold a pair of speakers).We got a system that worked in the space we had, with the small room constraints that John @Darko Audio pointed out that sounds great. Maybe that's the hard part. But being able to get trustable advice from a reputable dealer and to hear for ourselves is something we need to value too.

    Thanks for reviewing Monitor Audio speakers, something I rarely see and would enjoy encountering more often. Though our musical tastes are wildly divergent, I appreciate that you relate speaker performances to music and your particular sound preferences. That makes it pretty accessible for me to "interpret" your assessments into my own music and sound preferences.

    All I want to add is an album tip if you want to test speakers' ability to deliver satisfying, gnarly, lower lip biting bass: Scuba - A Mutual Antipathy. Considering Four Tet's My Angel Rocks Back And Forth was mentioned and is in the same sort of genre.

    I have the 6g monitor audio silver 100 and you’re correct, the bass on those with their 8 inch mid/bass driver are solid and deep for a stand mount speaker. You have to run them in for at least 70 hours before they really show their best though.

    I bought a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 6 (5G) five years ago and they're brilliant for family life with little kids. Relatively small floorstanders, I'm looking forward to hearing the new Silver 300 7G's. But I also hope you review the Silver 100 7G's, after watching your POWERNODE and KC62 review, I'm really liking the idea of going back to stand mount speakers with a small sub.

    Great review, John. ‘bout time you did some Monitor Audios! I’ve been using this brand for years and I think the baby in each range is tailored for tight control, so they don’t suffer from excessive boom in small rooms. The next size up tends to open up the mids and free the bass to play tunes better. Specifically, in my study, the previous model Bronze 2, with the smaller mid/bass driver and forward facing port, is an absolute gem at 30cm from the wall.
    One tip, give them a try with an amp which can push some serious current. I think you’ll be surprised at how they can be woken up. My GR20s sound stunning playing Anika Nilles, For a Colourful Soul, on the end of a Musical Fidelity powerhouse of an amp.

    @6:04 Connecting speakers via top posts vs bottom posts can make a sonic difference. I don't know why. Speaker manufacturers generally recommend plugging into the bottom posts.
    The factory links are usually detrimental.
    Excellent music recommendations!

    Another great video John! Love your channel. Great speaker stands too.
    FYI attention to anyone looking to buy a pair and has a cat, beware! Sadly I had to sell mine because they’re easy to topple forwards due to their build. Filling with Attabites made a huge difference but they could still topple if a cat jumps on them and pushes them over when they jump off. Sad really… they’re stunning, beautifully made and a fantastic addition to any hifi setup (unless you have a cat). 😎

    I'm using Silver 50 6g connected to the Cambridge Audio ONE. I like the clarity and transparency. (very happy to hear it from you.)
    Perhaps because I've been aging it more than a year, the dynamics seem to have improved quite a bit, and the sharpness of the metal tweeter has also decreased a little.
    It is appropriate to use only about 42% amplifier volume in my 3 x 5 m room.

    • @nc3419
      @nc3419 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you find the small 50 6th Ed. true to bass specs? I am thinking its a very open speaker. I heard the Silver 100s and was surprised how well it controlled sibilance yet it was a bit extended in the highs and forward sounding. Perhaps the 50s are less forward ?

  • @itsevenow6613
    @itsevenow6613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I happen to have heard the 6th generation Silver 100 very recently while picking out speakers with a friend, and for those you are spot on in terms of the dynamics. Honestly the most impressive part of that speaker, songs covered a much larger range than I was used to. My friend did not end up choosing the Silver 100 though, as they wanted a bit more of a laid back "listen all day" type speaker, as they put it. But it sounds like you might enjoy them a lot.

    It's great you have put the Artcore album on there. There is music very much like that chameleon remix from the mid 90s on Good Looking Records. The First and second LTJ Bukem "Logical Progression" albums for a start. Also there is a track by Blu Mar Ten on the Good Looking Records' Producer series called Adrift On Deep Water. Seba is a great artist. He has an album in the same "Producer" series. Check out the track Universal Music. Lastly, check out the very first LTJ Bukem "Earth" series. There is a track called Do What You Got To Do by Pablo. I assure you, the tracks I've named in this post will make those monitor speaker's sing so sweetly. Thank you as always for the up. Stay safe.

    I indeed have a small room (8 sqm) so I tried the 6th gen of the Silver50’s. Don’t be fooled, the bass is very low, especially when watching movies. On bass heavy songs (electronic etc) it’s absolutely adequate, but male actors voices lack at least +3-4 dB around 150-300Hz to not sound like a boy in his puberty.
    I hope the gen7 improved on this.

    The speaker stands look great! But the problem I have is that solid steel is everything BUT solid. This way unwanted resonances get free play (some frequencies "ringing sounds"). Filling them with sand should get you big benefits in bass, mid and treble.
    By far the nicest looking stands available! But that is subjective😃

I play classical music on my Gold GX50 (old model now…) and I am struggling to differentiate that and my actual acoustic piano that’s sitting in the same room. I hope you will review more monitor audio speakers, and will look forward to your great content.
