when you wanna say something in a foreign language and you can't come up with the word the feelings at that moment are very frustrating. Of course these feelings motivate you to study more but sometimes it make you feel very sad. Today I had a Spanish class with a native teacher and I almost cried when I read Spanish short readings and couldn't understand the half of them. When I just kept saying ummm.... I cried inside. and then I came to TH-cam and found this video. I really want to improve my Spanish and your video helps me a lot. Thank you. Un besito desde Corea del Sur
haha, a lot of times if the word in english comes from latin, you can easily guess the spanish word. like -tion words in english will be almost the exact same with -ción, and you can learn and pick up on the slight changes.
I am very excited!! I finally found Spanish lessons from a Colombian. Most of the others I have found were from Spain. Some words and sayings are different.
Hace mas o menos 3 meses que estoy aprendiendo español y no podía encontrar un canal suficiente interesante para practicar la idioma o aprender nuevas cosas. Muchas gracias por tu trabajo
Your accent, your voice, your rostro. Everything. Thanks. You mesmerize every time I watch your videos. I am learning more Spanish because of you than any other means. I love you, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. Gracias por ser la mejor parte de mi dia.... Thank you.
You are my best teacher in my life Teaching is not a big deal the way you teach to reach the person whom you teaching is big deal lots of respect to you medam From India
¡Hola Maria! Llevar un año español y soy principiante. Tus videos no solo están bien explicados y me ayudan a entender muchas cosas. También son muy entretenidos. Muchas gracias por eso. 😘 (Dicho sea de paso: La profesora también es muy guapa y sympatico.) Abrazos desde Baviera (Perdón por los errores)
Maria, you are doing a wonderful job. Congratulations! My advanced beginner Spanish students in Florida are very, very happy following your interesting lessons. For the first video, they said, sounds a little bit difficult, second it was much better and third time they felt very happy to be able to understand it completely. God bless. Nelson
Soy inglés y vivo en Bogotá desde junio. He aprendido español por 5 meses. Obviamente es más fácil cuando viviendo en un país donde español es la idioma. Tus videos son muy ayudando
I wish the lady at la tienda local would be as forgiving as you when I speak Spanish and asked her... Perdon tienes miel hoy? She started yelling at me.
Asombros video✌️👍 gracias por estos consejos😊 Eso muy ayudar con aprendizaje de idiomas🤓. Thank you for not only teaching us Spanish but actually how to learn, even if some may seem silly, I believe it’s one of the best ways to learn, be your silly self✌️
Me encanta tu camiseta! El diseño es muy hermoso, y el mensaje es poderoso. I have a few strategies I use to memorize new vocabulary, but many of them involve connecting the word to something I already know. For example, the world for juggling, "malabares", seemed pretty complicated. But I broke it down into "mala" and "bares". Bad bars. As in, I would probably have to be at a really bad bar if I saw juggling there. Just picturing that in my head has helped me remember that word. Now for "martillo", that sounds like "mar" and "tío" to me. So I'll picture my uncle in the ocean when I think of hammer. And now I should remember that one, even though I won't use the word hammer very often.
Thanks my friend? Have you heard of Anki? It's a really useful free flashcard program which I've been using for a couple months now. It helps a lot with memorizing vocabulary, and even grammar. You can make your own cards for solidifying things you just learned, or you can download existing decks that people made. I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but I can't recommend it enough.
I do use ANKI, and I have a running list of phrases that I pick up as I read or listen. Also I do review them, the frustrating thing is that these interesting phrases and words don't pop up as often as I would like when I'm actually talking with someone in Spanish!
Aprendo mucho más cuando tu video tutorial está narrado en español. Lo que más me atrae de tus tutoriales es que hablas alrededor del 90 por ciento en español. He escuchado muchos tutoriales que enseñan español al oyente, sobre todo me gustan sus tutoriales. Por favor no se expanda en inglés. Soy un hablante nativo de inglés. Gracias a ti y a Cody.
Are you a fan of Flash Cards then. If you use them will you say how? One of my vocab words was Dejar; leave, allow, let. Took me days w/o context. Finally I got it. Any tips please? Not an isolated case happens ALL THE TIME Gracias de antemano !! :-)
I also come right out and say, ?Conoces la palabra inglesa “confused”(or any word)? ?Cómo se dice “confused” en español? Muchísimas gracias por otro vídeo útil.
i use google translate to help create a sentence to memorize. for example, click the mic on the English side and say "I hit my finger with a hammer". you will get "Golpeé mi dedo con un martillo". double click on any word you don't understand to get its definition. hit the speaker button to have GT say the sentence. do that a bunch of times and repeat it until you think you are saying it right. then flip Eng/Spanish with the arrow button, hit the mic on the Spanish side and say it. keep trying until GT understands you.
I use Reverso. Try it. Vocal by dictionary and contextual examples/conjugation/pronounciation/ translation/ 12 languages. So, you can learn Spanish through English - or 10 other languages (even arabic - in arabic script!). Brilliant. Free.Buena suerte !
Muchas gracias por este vídeo. Me encanta su imitación del mono. A few weeks ago I started putting new vocabulary in a notebook. It is now almost full up with new words and phrases. I have taken to photographing the pages on my phone and reading them at the bus stop. Dedication heh?
Mike, try to use them in sentences. The words need to be relevant to you and what you do daily, otherwise it will be more difficult to learn them. ¿Ya está haciendo frío en Londres?
I really need help with accent marks, in school the teachers that I had didn't express the importance of them. I will sometimes write words and forget that they have a mark. Is there a tip, trick, rule or anything that will help me recognize and place accent marks correctly in spanish?
Here is what i understand. Words that end in vowels or the consonants n or s have the natural stress on the second to last syllable. Words that end in consonants that are not n or s have the natural stress on the last syllable. Words that don’t follow these rules need an accent like fácil or café. They just need to learned like irregular verbs. If the word is one syllable and has an accent it is because the word without an accent means something different. El vs él. Also 2 syllable words like este vs éste. Pronounced the same but different meanings. Interrogative words or question words who, where etc have an accent when used as a question dónde. When pronouns are added to the end of a verb the accent is added to preserve the pronunciation ie. mandártelo.. thats all i have hope it helps.
"Martillo" is a very easy word for me o remember because it is the translation of my surname. Have you ever heard of "Martillo" used as a surname for any Spanish-speaking person in any Spanish -speaking country? By the way, what is the Spanish equivalent of "Clarence"? I think there is none. My first Spanish teacher called me "Coche".
Hi Maria- I love your lessons so much I watch them about 4 hours a day and my wife is going to throw my phone out the window. necisito ayudar por favor porque te quiero-David
+Latin Charmer ¡Sí! you can say: "¿cómo se dice...?" And then give a short description of what you mean. That's a great strategy that will help you continue the conversation without letting it die. It gives the person you're talking with, an idea of what you're talking about and it gives you a chance to learn/remember a word. ¡Me encanta!
Richard Schroepfer I agree - look it up as soon as possible after the moment that you needed the forgotten word and then write it down somewhere. That has helped me.
oh yeah I have trouble pronouncing the /ɪ/ in English words, since in Spanish it is only one sound: /i:/. The only two words I can say very well that have those phonemes are "sheep" and "ship". lol someone made fun of me once because I said "I worked on sheeps", so I had to learn that one the hard way.
I made my wife, who is a native speaker, laugh last week when I was trying to say “cucumber” in Spanish. I said “cucumbre.” She laughed really hard then kindly educated me that the correct word is pepino. Except now we have been both using cucumbre to say cucumber in Spanish as a bit of of inside joke.
The more you use them, the better!

Tal vez su esposa podría aprender español también, entonces tal vez ella será más agradable??
Sign language (acting) is a universal language. Works every time😀
So do you recommend saying “como se dice” or just focus on the synonyms
+Latin Charmer ¡Sí! you can say: "¿cómo se dice...?" And then give a short description of what you mean. That's a great strategy that will help you continue the conversation without letting it die. Or carry a dictionary.. I did that, when I was in Baja. At that time, my Spanish was at a biginner's level. So it helped.
Richard Schroepfer I agree - look it up as soon as possible after the moment that you needed the forgotten word and then write it down somewhere. That has helped me.
